The State of Connecticut Stole My Property

I had received some stock shares that I didn't even know about. I had a money market with a financial services company. The company's structure changed in some way, and apparently, people were given stock.

I continued to receive dividend checks from the company for several years. My money market account had been closed out, so I thought these checks were errors on the companies, and I never cashed them.
They were for small amounts, and I was too lazy to contact the company to ask them why they continued to send me dividend checks after my money market was closed.

Finally, I called the company. They told me that I had received some shares. I told them I knew nothing about it. They said a lot of people were unaward of the stock they had received. When I tried to find out how many shares I had, I was told that they had been seized by the State of Connecticut as abandoned property.

I immediately called the state, and told them that they had something of mine, and I wanted it back. They told me that I had abandond it. I informed them that I hadn't even known that I had any stock. And then I asked them if they had made any effort to contact me. The reply was that if I went on their Internet site, they would have my name listed. I asked them why they hadn't bothered to call me, or write me a letter.

It's obvious to me that the answer is plain and simple: GREED. They really didn't want me to get my property back. They considered it theirs.

I let the woman know what I thought of a policy like that. I am now in the process of getting my poperty back. What inflames me is the fact that they could have called me. I have been living at the same address for many years.

Where are you sierrahpbt?

Let us know when you are ready.

ready for what? as for me

ready for what?

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

here

It is "safe" not "safety". You need to add "in" before "a".

That will do for now.

ok rhino.... how does that

ok rhino.... how does that approve with the rhino post checking system??

You

This is a John Stossel segment

If I have ever seen one.

It's "safe deposit box", not

It's "safe deposit box", not "safety". The last time I checked, it's not possible to store safety in a box.

thats what we call them here

thats what we call them here akak.. oh well you understand what I meant didn't you?

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

It's okay Sierra...

Being from a French established parish outside New Orleans...I have the most horrible accent ever created...And our way of phrasing things always gets a furrowed brow and I suppose comes off as ignorant since we drop most of the r's and all our th sounds are a "d"..We end most sentences with "me" or "you"....And we pepper our sentences with french words sometimes...and we butcher that, as well..Beau coup...is pronounced "Boo coo."

"I wouldn't go there,me." or "You shouldn't do that,you." .But it comes out " A wouldn't go dere, me".

We go to the "show" instead of the movies...We have neutral grounds, not medians...We "make" groceries..We go sleep "by" someones house...and hundreds of other things that make me go silent when I'm around people I don't know...and if I do..their eyes light up..

"You're from the Parish, right?" Ouch...dat bad, ?

And yep...We say safe-dee deposit box...so you're not alone....

Kat, I worked for ten years

Kat, I worked for ten years with a lady from outside of Lafayette, so I can imagine exactly how you must sound! But I always thought that her accent was charming. Now, these West Coasters from Seattle and California ---ugh! They can't even say the difference between "Don" and "Dawn", call every highway an "interstate" (LOL in Alaska!), and have never heard of a doorwall, using the mouthfull phrase "sliding glass door", which after twelve years I still find amusing.

Thanks, Akak...

"Chawmin"..That's such a nice word...I've always clammed up in front of strangers because they usually end up trying to mock me..

Why dey do dat? (LOL)

And funny you should mention West Coasters, cause yes...they are the first ones to point out my accent..

I also forgot to add that when making a statement we will end it with a "yes" or a "no"...

"Dat was good crawfish, yeah." or " My kids don't sound like me, no."

If I wrote like I speak..not a damn person would understand what the hell was going on !!

Sorry for nitpicking,

Sorry for nitpicking, SierraHPT --- it's the linguist in me, I guess. It's like people who talk about "PIN Numbers" (the acronym "PIN" ALREADY has the word "number" in it!), or who say "He could care less" when they really mean "He could NOT care less". I just can't let these things slip by me!

no problem,,,, I'm always

no problem,,,, I'm always open to getting educated!

I hate this video... It

I hate this video... It makes me all paranoid about the PM that I do have in a safety deposit box...

I just don't have anywhere else secure enough to store it not to mention I've got another 8 months on my lease....

adam, store it in your apt

adam,
store it in your apt or home or where over you are renting. get renters insurance to cover it.. are you worried about robbers? hide it somewhere.. there has to be a place to hide it! at least make the thieves work for it.. those jerkoffs in the bank don't even need to work for it when they have the other key!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

WOW! Thanks SIERRAHPST,

I checked out the link you provided and found my name there saying I have money coming from Chase. I don't have a clue as to what it’s for.

On another note, back in my early 20's I had a bank account with Bank of America in California. They closed my account, and claimed to have sent the money to the State. I contacted the State which claimed having no record of it, now I know why.

The really big fraudulent corruption scams in this country, seems to always have two big players, the government and their friends, the banking industry.

hjschaapman

BofA got me too!

I've NEVER gone back!

do i get a finders fee?? 1

do i get a finders fee?? 1 silver eagle would be GREAT!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

This title is very

This title is very misleading. You can always go to the bank and insure that you have paid for the box and it is "claimed" so they better not monkey with it..

obviously not

And really should you have to visit your safety deposit box twice a year to make sure the government hasn't stolen its contents? I hear crickets...

"The 50 U.S. states are holding more than $32 billion worth of unclaimed property that they're supposed to safeguard for their citizens. But a "Good Morning America" investigation found some states aggressively seize property that isn't really unclaimed and then use the money -- your money -- to balance their budgets."

NO

Libera me, let the truth break, what my fears make--Leslie Phillips

thats why bank of america

thats why bank of america settled with the lady for her stolen jewlry?

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

I agree Sierra...

I saw this on GMA a few mornings ago....All these boxes were up to date on payments.People even had current bank accounts ..The government and banks knew what they were doing....Keep your assets close to you !
