let me just say that the whole idea of a "designated free speech zone" is completely and utterly ridiculous. There already exists a fucking designated free speech zone, it was created several hundred years ago in a bloody revolution to claim independence from a tyrannical authority in a distant land and its called the United States of America.
The anti-war types and leftists who plan on bringing 50,000 to protest Republican policies- well we should double that - make it 150,000 then there wont be enough cops and soldiers to tell us all where to exercise our constitutional rights. We are entitled to a redress of grievances and MAN oh Man do we have some grievances!!!
I can imagine, though, like with all good things, this will get screwed up. Some DNC pinko will get arrested, it will get blared across the news it was a ron paul supporter and then people will have more of an excuse to marginalize Dr Paul and us. Well, so be it. We are already marginalized to the max. What more damage could the MSM possibly do?
The DNC in Boston and RNC in NYC for 2004, especially. Read all the old articles about the crap that was pulled at both of those conventions and then add a healthy 50% more "police state" to the mix for the 2008 versions. ;)
One example: Massachusetts-bound commuters on buses from NH were subjected to surprise searches with bomb- (and who-knows-what-else-) sniffing dogs- and even targeted police searches if a commuter refused to board the bus/be subjected to this unconstitutional search- in days/weeks leading up to the DNC. I experienced this personally, and NH news reports will back up my claims.
I know NYC experienced similar civil rights atrocities with their 2004 RNC, but the Boston DNC was closest to me and the news articles and unfiltered, personal experiences I read on blogs were shocking. I expect much worse this time around.
Here's a trivia question: What ever happened to all the surveillance cameras Massachusetts taxpayers bought to "secure" the DNC? Were they really disassembled after the event, as promised before they were installed? Is Homeland Security still monitoring them?
Bonus: How about the same question posed for NYC and the cameras purchased and installed for the RNC?
It's okay to protest against their agenda, as long as you are tucked away where nobody can see you. If anybody does accidentally happen to see you, then you get tazed and carted off to jail, with a few whacks on your head with a billy-club for your patriotism.
This is some really stinky stuff going on now.
They can put THEIR agenda on worldwide TV, but anybody that bucks THEIR agenda, gets 25000 volts and a court date.

We can all say what needs to be done, but who here led by example today?
This is why you must VOLUNTEER if you are not a national delegate.
With the help of volunteers, the 2008 Republican National Convention will be a truly remarkable event. The convention and the 2008 Minneapolis-Saint Paul Host Committee will recruit more than 8,000 volunteers, who will perform key duties and play crucial roles in the areas of transportation, information services, hospitality, and special events during the week of the convention. The 2008 Minneapolis-Saint Paul Host Committee has developed a paperless system to recruit and register volunteers:

Please research recent history of the conventions

Wikipedia, so-so
Looks like the Boston DNC 2004 entry has some info, though not in-depth:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w...
Pay attention to the topics: Security, Free speech zone, Police union, Loss of business, Demonstrations and protests
But please dig deeper for more stories and articles and especially first-hand experiences. Learn from them. Plan accordingly.
They are afraid...
very afraid.
They've done the same here
They've done the same here in Denver for the DNC. Protest groups are stationed far enough away from the convention to not even be noticed.
It's
their new definition of "free speech".
It's okay to protest against their agenda, as long as you are tucked away where nobody can see you. If anybody does accidentally happen to see you, then you get tazed and carted off to jail, with a few whacks on your head with a billy-club for your patriotism.

They allow "free speech"
They allow "free speech" when it's in line with their views.
Maybe
Maybe we should wear McCain shirts and carry "Stop Global Warming" signs.

Yeah don't

RNC Volunteers - Anyone ever hear back?
Filled out the form more than a month ago. No word yet.
Delegates
That is why we have delegates. They bypass the pointless protest and will be where it counts!

Don't forget they
purchased a HUGE number of tazer guns so they would be available to the police for the RNC.
This Convention is going to make history! I hope lots of cameras are there!
