After RP's convention speech - why not walk out and run as an independent?

It now seems a long shot securing the GOP nomination. Why not use the Republican convention for publicity and then walk out and run Ron Paul as an Independent? Zogby says 48% do not like any of the three elitists' candidates and I believe it's higher. How can anyone not find the message of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, end the war and a sound economy appealing when compared to the 3 Stooges empty slogans? I wished we could wait four years, but I believe we have to act now because it may be our only chance to elect RP president. He can win in a fair 3 or 4 way race!

What about the March?
Should show up in St. Paul instead of D.C? There are demonstrations in D.C all of the time. The media will not be there in the masses. BUTTTT all the media will be at the GOP convention just waiting the film something outstanding there. We are the most exciting that is happening to the GOP. Anything else is DOA (Dead on Arrival). Dr. Paul would get a lot more attention if we show up at the convention. IMHO.

We have a good base but we need to grow it. The good doctor is not hiding anything from us. Now this is about establishing liberty organizations across the country and building support and momentum for 2010 and 2012.
I personally think he should run independent and we all donate our stimulas funny money to him and give him 600mil to run on. We'll buy hours of time to spread the message.

Four more years ??? I agree let him speak at the convention and go independent. I think hes got more up his sleeve than hes telling and for good reason. I can't imagine this country heading in the same direction for one year let alone four. I say lets create a new reality !!!!
Dr. Paul is straight forward
I don't think he has hidden stuff up his sleeve. He told us how to do it, we are failing. It is all in the delegates. We are failing. We were too naive. We were not diligent enough. We are not nearly as smart as he is. The only way he can go independent is to let his seat go and I don't see him doing that at all. He was elected by too wide a margin and he would let many people down who have been loyal to him and they did NOT all vote for him for president. Why, I don't know.

It's not that we're failing
It's that we're seeing for the first time the monstrous behemoth that is "national politics". We forced them to *in full view of the public* pull the same dirty moves that for decades went unnoticed. That alone is an accomplishment.
We're also waking up to the frightening ignorance and/or brainwashing of the average American voter. Heck, some of us only recently came out of it.
This is a long battle that will not end in September or November. We have to keep on keeping on.

are getting 2 reactions. First half are thinking: "oh those Ron Paul people" The 2nd half are saying: "what the hell is going on in the republican party?" Well hopefully the 2nd half is smart enough to figure it out and talk to the 1st half and hope they will open their eyes that the gop is a nearly dead entity if it continues on the path they have chosen this year. Supporting "your candidate" is one thing but open lies, deceit and foul play is different. If the state gop leaders can't follow the rules, we sure as hell can't expect their candidate to be held to any honesty. I hope enough republicans can be in that 2nd half and choose a man that will truly get this country back on track.

Rome wasn't built in a day. We are increasing in numbers everyday. Dr. Paul is the most famous member of the US Congress now. His influence is growing.

Yes of course Dr Paul couldnt run as a 3rd party candidate
But that does not mean we could not draft Dr Paul as a write-in candidate.And if we got rid of those Voter Machines who knows what could happen.

He has to sign up as a write in in some states. Dream on. And get rid of the voter machines. Like we are really going to get rid of the dems and the reps little dream machines since we haven't succeeded to date. We are stuck with the damn machines. We are being bowled over by the organization that we have allowed to grow out of hand and we cannot control the stupid thing. How does defeat taste?

You can write in any candidate you like people can vote for mickey mouse if they like and it would count.Only Texas and Missourii and two other small states have a sour loser vote law which would count in DR Pauls case. Im just telling everyone to find out what the write in rules are for your state.If something were to Happen to the voteing machines from the WEAR and TEAR of Revolutionaires then everyone would be a write-in candidate now wouldnt they.

That's correct. Though he didn't just say he does not want to run in the general election unless he wins the Republican nomination--he said "I will not be on a ticket in the Fall", i.e., he has zero expectations of getting said republican nomination.
That's the path he's chosen--I want him to be President too, but I realize he won't be. That doesn't mean we've lost, however. Ron's goal of waking up and educating the public is proceeding brilliantly.

For the first time
When I saw him say it last week, I thought he really meant that he has decided not to do it at all. My heart sank. I can feel the defeat. It sucks. Royally sucks.
Well..
1./ The odds on him getting to speak are slim to none.. I hope he does, but I somehow doubt it.
2./ To run independent he would have to give up his congressional seat.. we need him there.
3./ This year is going to be the death of the GOP party... so why not pick up the pieces and use the established D/R system to do something right for a change? After all, it technically is our party too, right now.. ;)
2012 is the time... the Dems will be ravaged with infighting because all the crap that is going to happen in the next 4 years will be blamed on them. The current Republican party will be gutted by November.
We have made HUGE strides in terms of educating the masses in the last year alone. We just need to continue going foreward.
An independent run will just not cut it now.. besides, they have prepared for that eventuality too. ( See Barr )
