Why Conservatives Should Vote For Ron Paul: The Impending Failure of Operation Chaos
Submitted by sempiternal on Mon, 05/19/2008 - 14:11
You agree to strongly support the Constitution and will back all those who share that belief, but you are opposed to voting for someone that appears to have no chance.
Ron Paul is the only well-known candidate that strictly believes that the founding fathers got the government right the first time with the Constitution. He stands upon the principles of the founding fathers regardless of how popular they might be. And, he is the only one that has the record to prove it. All the other main candidates are just regular old politicians, sucking-up to their parties and fellow politicians and saying whatever it takes to get elected into power.
Does that mean that you are just going to go along with the masses and a vote for whatever politician it looks like will win; choosing the lesser of two evils? I think the problem is that America has been doing that exact thing for many years now.
It appears that Obama is going to win, and it may not be such a bad thing at this point. Some of the greatest lessons in life can only be learned by losing. Obama would be the perfect person to make that lesson clear to millions of Americans, and if he doesn't mess up and only conforms to the current government, well hardly anything will be lost. But what I will not do, is vote for him, even if it might be good in the long-run. If he wins, he should win on his own merits.
Rush Limbaugh is wrong encouraging people to deceptively vote for candidates they don't believe in, just to play with the election. He is actually playing with fire. Rush believes he is doing good, by stirring up things in the Democratic party, but what he doesn't realize is the long-term effects will be that many more Democrats will become involved and participate in the elections than ever before.
The controversy and extreme competition among Democrats is actually only helping to get Democrats interested and involved. In the end, Hillary will support Obama or Obama will support Hillary. The same has happened on the Republican side, with both Romney and Huckabee now supporting McCain. So, Rush's Operation Chaos, will only result in millions of new Democrats voting for the Democratic nominee, regardless of who it is; millions of new American voters will be supporting a larger, more powerful government at a time when the government is already bloated and overpowered. Operation Chaos will backfire.
In the same fashion, most Republicans will end up following the crowd and voting for McCain, who seems to be destined to lose anyway with so many Democrats now rallied out of the close competition from within their party.
Whereas, the only candidate left that is truthful, principled, truly conservative, and actually stands up for the Constitution and the principles of the founding fathers, will be ignored merely out of the habit of Republicans voting for the least offensive candidate left-over.
That is unless we decide to vote for Ron Paul and make a difference in supporting the Constitution and smaller government. Whether on not he wins, it would make a strong statement.
I don't think McCain has any chance of winning against both Clinton and Obama. If there is any time to vote for the Constitution and on principle, it is now. Make your vote count.
Vote right, write in, Ron Paul.

Wow, looking back at one of my old posts - pre 2008 election!
I feels kind of strange reading it.
Rush's Operation Chaos sure was foolish though, or was that the point?

Will Ron Paul Register For Write In?
So, a candidate has to register or declare himself as a write-in in many states. Does anyone know if Ron Paul is going to do that?

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I seem to remember a couple of months ago that the Paul campaign made an announcement that he had met the requirements and was officially on the general election ballot in all 50 states.
If that is correct - your write in would count.
Also, if correct, this is the true message we should be getting out - that it doesn't matter what happens in the primaries, it doesn't matter who the party thugs nominate - as a registered voter, I can write in RON PAUL!

I'm not positive, but I
I'm not positive, but I think that announcement was regarding the primaries, not the general election.
Also, I'm wondering why write-ins would have ANY restrictions. If it's something frivolous like Mickey Mouse or John McCain, they would get so few votes that it wouldn't matter.

Yep, wouldn't it make sense
Yep, wouldn't it make sense that you could vote for anyone you want? I always thought you could, foolish me, never realized in some states you are told who to vote for.

Question on Write-In
Doesn't a write-in candidate still have to declare himself to the secretary of (each) state?
Does anyone know?
Thanks,

That is a good question. I
That is a good question. I had always heard you can write in anyone you want, but could there be a rule or law that you may not write in someone that was a republican candidate?

You asked, doesn't this resonate with anyone?
My apologies for not commenting earlier. I've been busy copying and pasting your wonderful missive to send to many people. :D
Glad to come back and find you've corrected your last line, btw (write vs. right). Thanks for this post!!!
Right in, Ron Paul.
I actually meant it to be "Right in, Ron Paul" on purpose.
Right as in Correct and Right as in Conservative, while at the same time drawing attention to the apparent misspelling and encouraging people to "write" him in.
It was not a spelling error, but I changed it back because I did not want it to be misunderstood.

Write Ins
Those who espouse a vote for a marginal CP or LP candidate are not necessarily wrong -- just lacking focus. Frankly, it would be better for every disenfranchised voter in the United States to write-in NONE OF THE ABOVE than it would to vote for any of the above.
None of the current candidates, Baldwin or Barr, make any tactical or strategic sense. Don't waste your time in factionalism. Get back to making the GOP work for us.

Purify the Revolution - Unite the Revolutionaries
This message resonates. It resonates in the heart of every Revolutionary who ever took Ron Paul seriously, listened to what he had to say and acted upon what he had to say.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine who is in the majority in the Revolution reflected here on Daily Paul or in thousands of Meetup groups across the country.
Are we people who have listened to the plan or are we people with minds so full of our "point of view" that the self-discipline needed to win the Revolution is actually missing?
Who is this Revolutionary? What is the Revolution?
Is it the Meetup Hero who dreams of glory in front of a PC screen, but who doesn't focus on grassroots organization, how elections work or bother to make inroads with the people on the GOP executive board in his/her county.
Is it the Constitution Party member who saw Ron Paul as a target of opportunity -- but someone who considers the Revolution and its GOP strategy as something irrelevant to their party's efforts?
Is it the lone libertarian who is willing to wave signs, but not willing to strengthen our hand in the GOP by switching party and sticking with the GOP -- to transform it in the name of the Revolution?
I'm sticking with Ron Paul. I'm sticking with the Revolution. It's time for Revolutionaries to call people on their loyalties. It was necessary at the start of this country, it's necessary now.
How effective can a write in be?
Some states have machines where you pull the levers; is a write-in possible there? In Missouri your write-in vote only counts if the person is a declared candidate, so if Ron Paul does not declare in Missouri for the general election, write-in is ineffective. I am sure there are plenty of stumbling blocks.
Why not instead vote for the Libertarian or Constitutional party candidate? If 20% of the public did this instead of voting for one of the Democratic/Republican tag team candidates, then we might get the attention of the sleeping masses.
This seems that all we can do is play the "pretend democracy game" until the human suffering becomes so great under the hands of our rulers that the pain from revolt is less than the pain from subservience. This is probable a decade or two away, and it is highly unlikely that those in power will in the interim free us slaves out of the generosity of their hearts. The power of Ron Paul is to open peoples minds with the clarity of his thinking, and to get us thinking and organized. One of the problems in the US is the masses believe they are free because they can vote, and otherwise ignore the reality of their steadily eroding freedoms, both civil and economic.
Well, voting for someone
Well, voting for someone just because they are a Libertarian would be hypocritical. Besides that, nobody is more popular than Ron Paul.
I believe you can always request a written ballot. You have the right to vote for who you want.

I lost all respect for blowfish Limbaugh,
and most of the the other so called "staunch conservatives" when they were all too eager to participate in the Ron Paul media brownout. That only tells me that they are bought off hacks for their respected news companies, i.e. FOX. And have you noticed that most of the commecials on their programs are paid for by quasi governmental entities. It's all about money. What a shame.

No offense, but...
I learned this long ago with just a small bit of fact checking after the first few times listening to the Rushmeister back in the early 90's. I am truly happy you had an awakening. All I would ask is that anyone you know, friends, family, etc... who may listen to Rush, Hannity, O'reilly, and the rest - please help them understand the fantasy world they live in. Find obvious contradictions from year to year, show the lies, do whatever you need to to teach them that these evil people are Neoconservatives (or, communists if you prefer) and have soiled the term "conservative", perhaps forever.
All of my friends are Democrat/Liberal types, so it was easy to do with them because they didn't like them anyway. However, learning that the views of the neocons and those of FOX News were not Conservative nor Republican was an eye-opener even from them.
