Local Donor Offers Facility for NV State Republican Convention

RENO, NV—Nevadans for Ron Paul has learned that a local Republican is donating a room for the reconvening of the Nevada State Republican Convention. The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, is offering the use of this room free of charge to the Party.

The anonymous donor spoke today with a member of Nevadans for Ron Paul. Apparently a letter was sent by the donor to Sue Lowden last week offering the use of the Grand Ballroom at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno to the Nevada GOP. This facility has been reserved for the entire day of June 7th, and has the space and accommodations necessary for the over 1,300 delegates to the Nevada State Republican Convention. The donor expressed their willingness to provide security as well as audio and lightning for the State Convention. The donor is offering this as a turn-key operation for the Nevada State Republican Convention, and is not expecting any reimbursement.

“I’m very concerned about this whole process,” said James Uprichard, a local Republican. “I want my vote to get counted, and I think it was unnecessary for the State Convention to adjourn.” The Nevada State Republican Convention was recessed under questionable circumstances before national delegates were selected. Many local Republicans were dismayed by the abrupt recess.

The donor informed Nevadans for Ron Paul that the State GOP has not contacted them in response to this offer.

Nevadans For Ron Paul is a group of concerned local citizens who want to get Ron Paul elected as President of the United States in 2008.

Bump

For Nevada !!

From RP NV organizers

Here's the latest email update I received this AM:

"From what I've seen, media outlets around the state have been flooded with calls and e-mails, demanding that we hold the convention on June 7th at the GSR.

WAY TO GO, EVERYONE!!!

Here is some TV news coverage from Reno that you might want to see:
http://www.youtube.com/wa...

Also this:

NV delegates, please call/email the NV party headquarters:
The Nevada State Republican Party
(702) 258-9182
Info@NevadaGOP.org
Sue Lowden: chairman@nevadagop.org
Zac Moyle: zac@nevadagop.org

to say you would be able to attend June 7th in Reno and if you know any McCain supporters, especially from the southern part of NV who want to keep this Convention open and fair, encourage them to call/email to let the HQ know that they can attend and are Enthusiastic to do so. Please keep it polite and happy. We can do this, so let them know.

Bump!

Please help spread the word!!!

Help get the GOP to reconviene

Here's what to do:
- Flood the newspapers, radio stations, TV stations, etc., in Nevada with requests to cover the story. Very politely ask them if they've heard of this story, and tell them you think this is important. Please try to make at least three contacts-- if we all do that, they'll have to pay attention!

- You may also want to contact the state party HQ (and/or your county party HQ), and ask if they intend to take this offer. Again, be polite, and DO NOT say that you support Ron Paul.

Sue Lowden said:

"Currently the Nevada Republican Party is working hard to find the best possible way to complete our convention business with the selection of delegates to the National Convention. We will work from within our existing By-Laws, which state that the remaining business must be conducted in Washoe County. It is our sincere hope that once we determine the best way to complete our business for the 2008 State Convention, we will have maximum participation and the process will have taken its course in a fair and respectable manner."

It is obvious that a FREE convention (gifted venue, audio, lighting, security...everything taken care of) is DEFINATELY the best solution!

So let's make sure that Sue Lowden and other GOP officials are aware of the offer so that they can provide a means to "complete our business for the 2008 State Convention" in a "fair and respectable manner." (which is NOT by mail)

The idea is to create a buzz that can't be ignored. We want the convention back, and this is the way to get it.

Great PR opportunity!

If GOP leaders refuse, they are exposed. If they agree, they are cooked.

Will enough people in Nevada find out about this in time to create a quorum? If they do, then they can have the convention without the "approval" of others.

Seems like if the Nevada RP people could just plan this themselves, get a quorum and run it, it's a done deal. No one COULD stop you. Get on it ladies and gents, I'm too busy getting ready for WA State.

I know.... otherwise I'd be on the phone list calling every NV delegate myself. See you at the WA convention!

Holy crap!!!!

Is that possible. Could they get enough non RP delegates to commit?

This is a great idea.

this "must" go forward

lol- sorry, couldn't resist using the words of the government. anyway, what needs to be done to get this up and running? i would love to help!

This donation wonderful - BUT!

There are people who need to fly in for this convention. It would be better if the date was 30 days from now so that people could get the best price on airfare. Face it, many people who attended in April spent a lot of money to get to Reno & this reconvening should be as economically easy as possible on people. Also, what is going to happen if the state GOP does not respond? Do we still have a convention? What if we do, elect delegates, & then those delegates aren't seated/recognized at the national convention? Things could be VERY heated.

yes yes... look a gift horse

yes yes... look a gift horse in the mouth... negative is so important. I would imagine real supporters will get there come hell or high water!

18 Days until June 7

So, some of the discounted airfares should still be available if the Party makes a timely decision to accept the offer. So far as it being expensive to reconvene, perhaps the powers that be should have realized that before that gavel came down. It would have been much less expensive to extend the stay in the ballroom that day, if indeed that was even necessary. I am sorry for those who would have to fly, but if the tables were reversed, I'd find a way to do it. If it is a go, perhaps a "chipin" could help out? If that ballroom is truly reserved for that day, let's announce the "new convention" and be there. We cannot come this far and give up...it's not the way of revolutionaries.

Yes, if we have an convention, and elect delegates and then they are not seated/recognized at the national convention, that will certainly reveal the mettle of the GOP. Yes, it could get heated, then again, "they" created this situation and if they just follow the rules, fulfull their promises to reconvene, we could actually have a proper election of delegates with no fuss and no muss. I say we still have a convention. We must remember, however, that one of "their" main talking points against Ron Paul supporters is that we are a "rowdy" and even violent group. This must be avoided at all costs, the way Dr. Paul would want it.

Onward......hopefully.

IT'S DOABLE

Last minute Weekend Getaways on

Travelocity are a very good deal when flying! I got a round-trip ticket from Spokane to Boise and a 3 night stay in a good hotel for $247.00 total!! (To go see Dr. Paul when he was in Caldwell, Idaho!) These deals aren't available from any city to any city, but should be checked out, and you don't need to purchase in advance.
Nevada is in my prayers---Get Out The Vote at Convention!

Good point

I would think that Ron Paul people being the "survivalist" that we are, we would be more apt to set up carpools, room sharing, etc. etc. than others. We have the honorable goal, the revolution to fight for...it's doable. That ability might very well give us the better attendance.
June 7 is on my calendar....in ink!

IT'S DOABLE

Shame Them

I really do understand the point below . . .

"i'm not here to rain on anybody's parade, but...
On May 20th, 2008 Big Naughty says:
Saturday in Louisville Rand Paul said NV wasn't going to send any delegates to the national convention. that they'd rather have nobody there then have Ron Paul delegates."

But if this can be verified by a reporter, then quite simply, it's time to shame the Republican party into submission. There needs to be the biggest Republican "party" in the state of Nevada on June 7.

Also, please note:

If we could pull this together now, just think of the power if it had been done BEFORE the convention. If we are GOP -- we run the GOP. Thank you to the person who is trying to make this happen.

Nevada is the test case for

Nevada is the test case for whether or not the "delegate strategy" can work. If your votes are not counted in Nevada, if the pro-McCain forces get their way, that will speak volumes about any future chances.

The really interesting thing

The really interesting thing about this is that they can make it happen even if the GOP leadership does not want to reconvene. As far as I know, all they need is to establish quorum then those who attend on June 7th will be able to reconvene the convention, elect new leaders and get on with business.

The devil is in the details

Read the fine print. Knowledge is power !!!!

I wonder

Any really good parlimentarians out there with opinions about John2k's post? When we tried to reconvene right after the gavel fell on April 26th in Reno, we were told we needed a quorum.

How about a "rump convention" See http://ronpaulpublic.com/... Any attorneys out there? I'm sure the Ron Paul HQ is looking into all of this and I'm sure Sue Lowden and those responsible for the recess, are anxious to fulfill the promise made to all of the delegates to reconvene in a week or two. It would, after all, be best for the Party not to disenfranchise all of those Republican voters who voted in the caucus and all of the delegates who went from the County Conventions on to the State Convention. We need our big tent, as advertised.

i'm not here to rain on anybody's parade, but...

Saturday in Louisville Rand Paul said NV wasn't going to send any delegates to the national convention. that they'd rather have nobody there then have Ron Paul delegates.

The No Vote Scenario

The annoyomous donor and, his/her offer has made "no votes to St. Paul" scenario a bit more difficult for the NV GOP to accomplish, imo. Rand Paul might very well have been correct, before this "solution" was offered. I don't doubt that this is what the GOP insiders would have preferred and had every intention of just not being able to facilitate a reconvenence, so no representation. But now, if we can publicize this, it will be harder for any more duplicity to keep just votes for Ron Paul from Nevada from being presented at the Nationals.

Should the NV GOP accept this offer, the politically and legally correct action to take, and we do reconvene on June 7th, we still have to calmly and corrrectly do battle (for that is what it is) to secure the delegates. Think of the media coverage...this is a political story for sure and it will be hard to marginalize the candidacy of Ron Paul and the strength of his supporters. Phoenix Rising in Reno Rally, anyone?

IT'S DOABLE

Hugs to the Anonymous Donor!

I'm very excited about this. We were promised a reconvenence, and now a solution has presented itself. Please, everyone, if you have any friends in the media and not just in Nevada, forward this press release to them... especially those of you in States which have encountered marginalization problems at their conventions. We can pull this off. We now have an opportunity to show that we will not sit back on our backsides and "take it." We are a force....also please remember, a very polite, smiling and cooperative, collection of righteous voices...and we are going FORWARD.

I'm committed...I will be at the Grand Sierra on June 7th with Liberty Bells On for Ron Paul! Hope Sue Lowden, Bob Beers, et al, decide to join us, we are about the business of the country.

IT'S DOABLE

Illegtimus non carborundum!

Nevada Patriots, if I wore a hat it would be off to you! Fight the good fight!

Is that not an offer no one

Is that not an offer no one can refuse?

Sounds good to me!

I think the state party should do it!

Oh, I think we agree

But I begin to think it was the NV GOPs hope to stall long enough to say they will just have to submit the slate that the election committee put together, or to send out a mail--in ballot (no formal convention, thereby eliminating the district votes already cast - 7 out of 9 were for Ron Paul apparently), or as heard from Rand Paul...send in no votes at all due to the fact that there was no mutual agreement as to how to resume. I have begun to believe they would rather disenfranchise all delegates than have any votes go to the floor in St. Paul for Ron Paul.

June 7th, let's all be there and get this job done.
