House passes bill to sue OPEC over oil prices
(Have members of the House gone completely insane, or is this simply some calculated posturing ahead of the election?
The problem here is the decline of the dollar; something the folks in Washington haven't been able to remedy.)
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation on Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure.
The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow.
The measure passed in a 324-84 vote, a big enough margin to override a presidential veto.

exxon, mobil, connoco, phillips.
they are trying to do something about the rising gas prices and economy because they all are starting to feel the hair stand up on the back of their necks concerning their re-election if things don't get better. status quo is a serious motivator. if you can't give the people what they want then yeah chances are you won't be back next term. maybe our there is hope for our system yet.
i watched cspan for about an hour today on discussions of how speculation and underground deals between oil companies equate to racketeering. they are going to start going after the oil companies in anyway they can. the "free ride" as one guy put it, is over. They are going to try and get some of these guys in the same way they got enron. Might just be talk the same as it ever was but if what I was hearing is true things are about to come down on the exxon/mobil and conoco/phillips.

Congress is Playing on the Stupidity of the Taxpayers
Just like the phony "stimulus" check for worthless federal reserve notes which just dilute those already in circulation, Congress thinks we are dumb enough to swallow this.
It is the CONGRESS that created the Department of Energy, in defiance of the Constitution. It is Congress that stops oil exploration and exploitation at the behest of the big oil companies. It is Congress that has created a monopoly for the big oil companies. And it is Congress that stupidly watches as the Administration wages war to steal oil from Iraq and give it to the big oil companies.
Your post got me thinking
Your post got me thinking about the stimulus package. It's kind of like when you're playing Monopoly and one person has almost all the properties and all the utilities and railroads. No matter what, you know the game will play itself out and that person will win. Now, enter the stimulus package. It simply allows the game to be played for a while longer, but in the end, the guy with the monopolies will win.
Things are only impossible until they are not.

Is this a joke?
Yet another dumb concept to come out of Washington.
not a joke-
I don't think it will help... Might cause shortages, though.
