McCain Confronted With New Iran Gaffe, Gets Facts Wrong Again (VIDEO)

Later in the day, Klein confronted McCain with this question at a press conference. For a foreign policy "expert," McCain clearly has a pattern of getting the basic facts wrong. McCain insisted that ultimate political authority in Iran rests with Ahmadinejad -- even mocking Klein when he challenged him on it. In fact, according to the CIA's World Factbook, ultimate political authority in Iran rests with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, not the president.

Embarrassing perhaps

but both of his stumbles would have been my answers in his shoes. But if he is wrong about them really, then that is not good as a presidential candidate who makes this his expertise. Hopefully I can be forgiven. Not sure.

If you ask McCain OR an average American...

They would NOT know who the leader of Iran is. Some "average" Americans don't even know who the current President of our own Country, is, (I'm not kidding) let alone Iran. McCain as usual keeps rolling along with lies and deception. Despite his constant lying he is smug and self possessed. I will hold every single American responsible who votes for McCain or Obama.

Mr.

incompetence himself.

not seeing a problem here...

I can't really disagree with McCain's response on this as much as I'd want to. I don't think there's anything to really pick at him for. If I was asked the same question I'd probably answer it the same way. He's the public figure head and our media is making him out to be the leader so as far as we American's know... he is the leader. If he's not then our media should do a better job at educating the public. Then again that's something that hasn't been in their job description for a decade now.

i dont care or pay attention to iran at all. and i know its not

the president with the power. its the religious authority pulling the strings.

so youre saying the us media is now our teachers?

dr paul would of known the right answer.

E Pluribus Unum...

.....Out of many, one.

I agree, if YOU or I were asked

the same question we'd probably answer the same way. But McCain's only strength, and the thing he defends most is his experience and knowledge of foreign/military policy and foreign relations! Anyone with ANY foreign relations knowledge knows that:

Supreme Leaders of Iran (1979-Present):
Name Born - Died Took office Left office
Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini 1902 - 1989 Dec 1979 - June 1989
Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei 1939 - June 1989 -

The Supreme Leader is elected by the Assembly of Experts, which is also in charge of overseeing the Supreme Leader, and has the power to dismiss and replace him at any time. As the name indicates, the Supreme Leader is considered as the ultimate head of the Iranian political and governmental establishment, above that of Iran's president (Ahmadinejad).

The President of Iran (Ahmadinejad), who is elected by the public vote, is the Executive President (Head of government). However, certain executive powers, such as (and this is VERY important) commandment of the armed forces and declaration of war and peace, remain in the hands of the Supreme Leader.

Seriously, these 'mistakes' by McCain prove that he is quite unaware and quite uneducated when it comes to foreign policy and affairs.
