Second Amendment clearly explained - to a cop!

This guy nails it! I think Ron Paul would be in agreement.

Excerpt:

"Clearly, you fail to understand why the Second Amendment was written. While it's become popular to say it has nothing to do with duck hunting -- and that's true as far as it goes -- very few people understand that it has nothing to do with defending yourself from muggers, burglars, or rapists, either, although that's a surely welcome side-benefit."

one more thing

In Switzerland, every draft-age male is required to maintain a firearm in his home, yet the Swiss murder rate is only 15 percent of the U.S. rate. An added benefit is that no foreign enemy has invaded Switzerland in centuries. Israel, which has the most heavily armed populace, has a negligible crime rate.

But the record of strict gun regulations in other countries is quite dismal. In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents were rounded up and exterminated. In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians were exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938. and from 1939 to 1945 13 million Jews and others were exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935; from 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents were exterminated
Guatemala established gun control in 1964, and from 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians were exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970 — from 1971 to 1979, 300,000 people were exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956, and from 1975 to 1977 one million educated people were exterminated.A more recent example, the British Broadcasting Company reported on May 10, 2000, that the United Nations convinced the people of Sierra Leone to turn in their private weapons for UN protection during the recent civil war. The result was disastrous. The people ended up defenseless when UN troops, unable to protect even themselves, were taken hostage by rebels moving on the capital of Freetown.
Estimates run as high as 56 million people who have been exterminated in the 20th century because gun control left them defenseless.

2nd Amendment

That is the fairest interpretation of the 2nd Amendment that I have ever taken the time to read.

The reason the people have a right to bare modern military arms is maintain a balance of power between the people and their government.

When the government becomes too powerful, then it will do as it wishes with no worry.

LEO = facists R us...

outstanding! he didn't just rip the cop a new one with regards to gun rights but also their whole "us vs them" attitude and willingness to enforce any law no matter how repugnant (vee vere only follwing orduhs)... gads I'm soooo sick of this police-state mentality, you can't swing a dead cat in my town without hitting one of these nazis, and most people still don't understand that even though they are paid by the people of the community to protect and serve the community, they really work for the DMV and DHS and their purpose is not to protect citizens but to "enforce the law" (ie act as revenue-generating agents for the state). they pin medals on these guys and call them "heroes", I call them traitors, they all take an oath to uphold and defend the constitution all they do is act as the governments arm that serves to destroy everything it stands for... scumbags and traitors, every one of them...

they're bloomin' idiots!

I have known a few who understood the concept of "uphold and defend the Constitution" (and there are even prosecutors and judges who understand- but they are very few and far between.)

a great article!

a great article!

Great article.

It was great where he points out that what the guy may or may not approve of is irrelevant, the Constitution is the law. Where I work, there is a great deal of arrogance, most of the people think their opinion means more than any rules, regulations or laws. Many of them think they are better because of education, or they make more money than others so their opinion counts more than anyone elses. I try to explain to them that elitism is the first step towards facism but they don't, or can't, understand. Try working in a place where 30,000 people think their personal opinion is greater than law. It's called a University, and if you think the people in charge of our government are arrogant and criminal now, wait until the current batch take over in 20 years. The average cheating rate in a University is at 75% nationwide.

unalienable rights

The government cannot take those rights away - they are supposed to secure those rights.

Let's Reign! (Rev. 5:10)

The part of the article that counts.

The Second Amendment was written specifically to ensure that the people would always possess the physical means to intimidate the government, to keep it in line, or, failing that, to overthrow it at need and, as Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, "provide new guards for their future security".

In its time, the Pennsylvania (or Kentucky) rifle represented the leading edge of technology, and those who possessed it could shoot three times as far, with much greater accuracy, than those stuck with, say, the British Army's "Brown Bess" smoothbore musket. Jefferson, an inventor and a technophile himself, would recognize the need today for the average citizen to be equipped with weapons that are the equal of, or superior to, whatever the government supplies its troops with.

So why can't we have automatic assault rifles? Not that I am in dire need of one anything.

El Neil at his best. He

El Neil at his best.

He makes only one statement I disagree with: You can't make the government behave itself with bolt action rifles, pump shotguns, and revolvers."

Oh, I can assure you, if push came to shove, you can. In truth, these weapons are for the most part deadlier than small-caliber semi-automatic firearms--which is why they are so often used for big game hunting.

But we don't want the government to know that, or they'll start pushing for legislation restricting "long-range sniper rifles", "riot guns", and "deadly magnum revolvers."

i wish i had a firearm

use to be a decent shot too...its a bow and arrow for me now...lol

Ghandi had another weapon

I'm 100% pro-gun ownership and I am NOT a sportsman/hunter. The 2nd was about tyranny, let's not kid ourselves.

However, the gov't will always have more firepower than an individual has - and given the 'gubment' we have today, I'd say they are prepared to use what they've got against the citizenry.

I personally believe we have another weapon, as a last resort, after they've taken our arms away. Ghandi's form of civil disobedience. Once you accept the fact that your life is no longer yours when it is lived on someone else's terms - then you are prepared to sacrifice it. Non-violence can be very powerful - simply do not cooperate with those in power. Lift no finger to resist, lest they use increasingly more force. This takes as much if not more discipline as picking up a long rifle.

Hmmm. How many angry swarms of "terrorists" would that be?

Mr. L. Neil Smith is

Mr. L. Neil Smith is absolutely correct. Are right to arms is for one purpose... to fight government and their troops.

That is a great letter

When we give up our right to defend ourselves we are truly in trouble.

To bad they don't

teach this in schools.

that's why we homeschool our kids

Or for those who can't, they should put their kids in private school.

It's no coincidence that our nation's folks are ignorant of the Constitution. It has everything to do with EDUCATION - something that Ron Paul is very good at doing vis-a-vis liberty!

Let's Reign! (Rev. 5:10)

Wait a minute...

I thought homeschooling was evil... Didn't you hear about the FLDS?

You're kidding, right?

If you want evil, check into student abuse at public schools- by both other students and teachers.

Libera me, let the truth break, what my fears make--Leslie Phillips

Yes, I'm kidding

We homeschool.

Guess we're terrorists now!

Let's Reign! (Rev. 5:10)

..anything to keep the FEDs

..anything to keep the FEDs out of education..that is the way it is in ALL communist and faschist countries. These kids get indoctrination, NOT education now....
Great article, btw..
