Need Advice to combat illegal checkpoints

Last night after driving home from work between 12am and 1am (16 hour day due to a domain controller crash) a highway leading toward my house was closed by police and redirected into a parking lot where at least 50 florida highway patrol officers were scrutinizing every vehichle. They had set cones up in a curvy pattern and you had to pass through. They asked me to roll down my window and proceded to ask questions about where I was all night, what I did for a living and then walked around and did a full inspection of my truck including tests of all signals and brake lights. Everything was working properly. The question I ask is what can I do to fight this? It's not ok for them to stop me without cause! I can't just let this happen in my neighborhood and I know there were'nt alot of others on the road and those few may not have the balls to fight or may even be as digusting as to agree with these gestapo violations of our laws. What can I do? Who can I contact? Thank you. (route 41, pasco county, just outside of tampa)

Every checkpoint should be taped & put on youtube. ALL OF THEM!!!

This is a difficult battle...

This is exactly why Ron Paul warns us that when we sacrifice freedom for temporary safety we will soon lose both. This sounds like a sobriety checkpoint. I've never been through one because I don't often drive that late at night, but I think many people would say that checking for drunk drivers is a good idea. Nobody wants the consequences of a drunk driver accident, so the idea is to give up a little freedom and give more power to law enforcement to allow such checkpoints. The battle is against a way of thinking. I probably would have been okay with these sobriety checkpoints a few years ago as they seem logical, but now my thinking is totally changed. I would rather take the risk of dealing with drunk drivers than give up my freedom and be stopped for no reason.

The question is how do we change the mentality of people? That's not easy! I can only say that it will take a lot of effort and communication. Talk with your neighbors, and if possible get involved with organizations within your community to reach more people. The best way, of course, is to get involved with politics yourself, and/or support those that feel the same way. A temporary direct course of action is simply to call the Highway Patrol department directly, and complain. Be vocal, and get others to be vocal. Is the governor there still Jeb Bush? Write a letter to the governor, get others to write letters too. Find the Ron Paul meetup group in Florida and use it as a springboard to continue pushing against these kinds of things etc. I think every single one of us that now knows about these dangers has the lifelong task to help educate others who simply are asleep and unaware. We cannot stop whether Ron Paul becomes president or not.

welcome to the police state

That sounds pretty horrific for sure.

I agree with SIERRAHPBT, just give that a shot and see where it goes. In the meantime, tell everyone you know about the incident and let them know that unless Ron Paul gets in as president that these tyranical, police state, totalitarian, nazi like tactics will only get worse.

ask them if you are under

ask them if you are under arrest. then ask them if you are being detained.. when they say are you are not under arrest then ask them if you are free to go!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

I'm going to bump this

I'm going to bump this because I want to know too

I know....

....where you're speaking of, as I moved away from central FL last year. I also know that many area of FL use local, county and state patrols to do sobriety checks on friday and saturday nights...and I have a hard time disagreeing with the motive in that....I would worry more when the men stopping you are dressed in black, wearing ski masks and vests.
If it makes you feel any better, I moved from FL to a VERY rural area in the mountains. I have been stopped 3 times in the past 5 weeks by road blocks hosted by the HP. The last time was just after my having watched the Google film "Washington: You're Fired!"...so I was already pretty cranky. The officer and I had a difficult time being civil, and it was my fault....but I moved to Hooterville to get away from all this Big Brother stuff.
To answer your question on how to avoid it: perhaps using a CB radio and listening for info on road blocks?
