NY Times on Ron Paul: It’s Not a Campaign, It’s a Mission
By ALEX WILLIAMS | Published: May 25, 2008
A YEAR ago, Leon Lim, a 35-year-old doctoral student in Sanskrit from Dayton, Ohio, decided with his wife, Ranjani Powers, a yoga instructor, to head off to Bali, or India, or anywhere, really, just “somewhere very far away” — from the Iraq war, the Patriot Act and the tanking dollar, Mr. Lim said.
“We were just so disillusioned with the way everything was going,” explained the shaven-headed Mr. Lim, who wore a gold hoop earring in each ear. The couple had supported Ralph Nader in 2000, Ms. Powers said, but had since “given up on America.”
But they found an unlikely reason to stay: Ron Paul, the libertarian Republican congressman from Texas who continues to run for president, even months after Senator John McCain has essentially sewn up the nomination.

I thought it was a subtle hit piece
marginalizing RP supporters into ,gold hoop earring wearing, Nader supporting, shaggy beard cuchetta (sp?)rock festival freaks, with hand knit rasta caps.

Our mission for today...

This site will auotmatically help you to fax, email, call...whatever. Across the top there are links where you can choose which you want to do it is very easy.
Do this!
Can it work? Yes it can! It Has!
In 2006, the sale of port management, in six major U.S. seaports, to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was crushed by We the People who made our voice heard and stopped the proposed sale in the name of national security.
In 2007, The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act never even got to a vote after We the People put our foot down and told our elected officials we demand enforcement of our borders before allowing amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. (By the way, the phone system was shut down because they had sooooo many calls.
Please bump.
Be the Miracle!
Everyone
that wants peace and freedom needs to vote for Ron Paul.
ABSOLUTELY ROBEN HOOD
As we look back from the year 2054, the 200th anniversary of the
republican party birth in Ripon, Wisconsin, our grandchildren can
read about the historic revolt of Ron Paul republicans who tried
to upstage the McCain oil price fixers and Rovian neo-fascists,
were set back, but then broke from the party to join Bob Barr
and the Libertarian/Republicans or to launch an independent
candidacy. We cannot get back to the Lincoln to Goldwater Party
or forward to this time without sacking Bush/McCain and chopping
off the Saudi American linkage. Bush/McCains cannot be saved
but our new republican baby will grow up strong!
Yes, there are many ways -
Yes, there are many ways - big and small - to help support Ron Paul. I'm encouraged when I read comments from people in other countries who want to help.
Another way that most folks have heard about are the Ron Paul Meetup Groups. I understand that there are RP Meetup Groups in 26 different countries. This is exciting to me!
Folks - no matter where you live, if there isn't a RP Meetup Group close to you, you can START YOUR OWN! Below is the site address to get more information about it:
http://www.ronpaul.meetup...
Not only can the groups be united for a common cause, but they can be interesting and fun too.
And I look forward to reading the comments from more "visitors".

Make your voices to be heard
There are many RP guests listed online when visiting Daily Paul who enjoys reading the other people post or comments. It is time for you now to post your ideas, and for all of us to continuing to post in other sites to either promote or defend Ron Paul message of liberty where the opportunity arises. This is r3VOLution in the making and you have a chance to be apart of history. Whether it be a blog, uploading videos, writing to your local newspaper editorials, local TV stations, putting signs up, placing bumper stickers, wearing t-shirts, contribute money, talking to our family, friends, neighbors, etc…our contributions will help bring others to the waking knowledge of the truth of life, liberty and freedoms that are endow to each of us. Let us continue to go forward and make real changes to bring back the government of the people where our Founding Fathers wanted us to have. Peace be with us all.
Go Ron Paul!!! Take ideas or support even if we disagree.
"It may well be that government was necessary and is still necessary for all the advantages which you attribute to it," says the man who has mastered the Christian theory of life. "I only know that on the one hand, government is no longer necessary for ME, and on the other hand, I can no longer carry out the measures that are necessary to the existence of a government. Settle for yourselves what you need for your life. I cannot prove the need or the harm of governments in general. I know only what I need and do not need, what I can do and what I cannot. I know that I do not need to divide myself off from other nations, and therefore I cannot admit that I belong exclusively to any state or nation, or that I owe allegiance to any government. I know that I do not need all the government institutions organized within the state, and therefore I cannot deprive people who need my labor to give it in the form of taxes to institutions which I do not need, which for all I know may be pernicious. I know that I have no need of the administration or of courts of justice founded upon force, and therefore I can take no part in either. I know that I do not need to attack and slaughter other nations or to defend myself from them with arms, and therefore I can take no part in wars or preparations for wars. It may well be that there are people who cannot help regarding all this as necessary and indispensable. I cannot dispute the question with them, I can only speak for myself; but I can say with absolute certainty that I do not need it, and that I cannot do it. And I do not need this and I cannot do it, not because such is my own, my personal will, but because such is the will of him who sent me into life, and gave me an indubitable law for my conduct through life."

Go
Go Ron Paul
What really matters is...
(sorry Rick... nice picture, though)
...is that my neighbors just came by excitedly asking "Did you see the NY Times article on Ron Paul?"
Maybe it was the Ron Paul lawn sign or the Ron Paul T-shirt I was wearing at the time or the Ron Paul flag the now flies in place of the stars and stripes but somehow everyone in the neighborhood knows I'm a Ron Paul supporter.
I told her no and she promised to get me her copy.
This is good news folks. Yes, it tells us what the NY Times thinks about us (Style section?) We've been considered a 'fad' since the campaign started. Who cares what they think?? The word is out and spreading like wildfire. It can't be contained. We have several more months to spread across the country and consume all we touch.
I'll be wearing my RP shirt tomorrow at the parade, too So will my wife and daughter. So will me son, who is marching in the parade....
It doesn't take much to 'influence people' as I call it. Just put the name out there and stand back! Talk to the people who approach you with questions but, personally, I don't force my opinions on anyone. Street corner debates don't speak well of the cause. You won't convert people willing to fight with you but there are millions of other not-so-inclined people willing to listen. Those are our the target audience!
Take it to the streets and happy memorial day!
UPDATE... Just back from the parade.
I'd call it a success. My son decide not to march so we were four abreast with Ron Paul Revolution shirts on. Got many looks from the crowd and the folks on parade! Spoke to the ladies at the Methodist church about Dr. Paul after they asked me if he was still on the ballot.
These are 60+ year olds and even they're disgusted with the status quo enough to ask!
Get out there and influence people! Plant your seeds and watch them grow!
Well put

All that matters here...
is that I am the dude on the picture with the red shirt.
BOOYA
PS. I is why it's in the Style section.
Hey Rick.
Hey Rick. RonPaulTShirts.com, I take it? I took the profile photograph of Ron Paul. David Hatchard turned it into a sketch, and it ended up on your poster. Small world. :)
NY Times "Style" piece
My first impression of this article was, hey, it's in the New York Times and it's coverage - not bad! My second reaction was: "Why is this in their fashion section - because they talked about beards?" My husband basically said, "What do you want, everything?" And I said that I have high expectations. The NY Times did try to portray Ron Paul supporters as latter-day hippies, I think. And from the events I've attended, I've found that most of the people - young, middle-aged, and older - are, for the most part well groomed. But, so what? What is important is that Ron Paul is still in the race and really doing very well. And those who support the ideas of freedom are not going away.
Consider the fact your
Consider the fact your average American will probably read the "Fashion" section more readily than they would the "Politics" section. Possibly tens of thousands of vapid, self-absorbed, Sex-and-the-City-Obsessed NYT readers are getting their first exposure to Ron Paul. Not a bad thing.

This article sucked donkey dangles!
What a bunch of crap Alex squeezed in there. And why the f*ck is it in the "Style & Fashion" section. I feel like I've been bitch slapped.

Hey, it's not over till it's over.
Now if the rest of the MSM will just emulate the NYT...
Golwater's FREEDOM Movement Gave us NWO REAGAN! Bump~
This is the real threat to the present and maybe final revolution. IF Goldwater's Movement gave us Reagan; Could the Ron Paul movement give us another false conservative? The NWO knows how to manipulate and co-opt movements.
"The youthful zeal of the Paul movement “does recall the early Goldwater movement, which was also jam-packed with people dropping out of graduate school, college, maybe even high school, to devote themselves 24/7 to what they called the ‘revolution,’ ” said Rick Perlstein, author of “Before the Storm: Barry Goldwater and the Unmaking of the American Consensus” (Hill and Wang, 2002).
And such movements don’t always stay in the margins forever, he said, adding that the young supporters who stumped for Goldwater’s failed presidential bid helped lay the seeds for the Reagan revolution 16 years later"
The only thing that can prevent it is an strict adherence to our INTEGRITY. We must accept nothing less than pure constitutional adherence from our leaders. We will accept no wishy constitution slow washers. Nor will we accept compromise and dilution.
This is a fight to the end to Resotore the Republic! http://www.dailypaul.com/...

The Revolution looks different to me.
For the most part, we really, really, REALLY hate and distrust all aspects of our system. The Goldwater movement still had hope in the system, it seems to me. We know we are working against the whole system. That, I think, is the difference.
We will not have the power we need to make a difference if we don't become strategic while keeping our tactical strengths. If we spread our forces or fail to go after the best ground for assault we willl dissipate our movement. We'll wear ourselves out. That's the most likely danger, more than being co-opted.
I am noticing a sheeple effect inside the movement, with a difference. People are still looking for a leader. Here's Ron Paul. Here's Chuck Baldwin. Here's Bob Barr! We're focused on candidates when their impact will be limited at the start in any case.
The critical difference between sheeple and us is that we more closely resemble a herd of feral cats that have trouble focusing on one direction or applying strategy, but we're tactically impressive. The sheeple go where they are told, but they all want to go in the same direction. We scatter in different directions, but tend not to pull back into a cohesive flock.
Ron Paul has it right, the right mix of herd instinct and feral drive, without an all or nothing focus on leaders.
We're lone hunters, for the most part, who need to learn about being both cat-like and able to stay focused as a group as well. It's a tall order, but necessary.
Liberty Is Security! "We are lone hunters" "a herd of feral cats
I like this analysis and agree with you. Would you care to post your comment on the forum for it? http://www.dailypaul.com/...
Thanks,

The neocons invaded the US
The neocons invaded the US govt during the 6 day war when they were scared because israel was having its butt kicked. They took over the most important positions to get arms and other weapons sent to israel.
The USA was effectively lost after that happened and we have been blackmailed by these people ever since. It had nothing to do with Reagan, BUT Reagan DID become the first president to make most of his cabinet these same neocons, and later bill clinton basically had his entire staff of israel firsters.
Wouldn't that Ron Paul profile look nice...
as a framed photo for your home or office wall?
http://www.ronpaulphoto.c...
Okay, it's a shameless plug, but I am so amazed at how often I end up seeing that profile in the sketch form all over the place. :)
Rich
Not to dis you youngsters but...
People in the crowd, many under 30, if not 25, rose to their feet and thundered in applause, even if they looked as if they had stumbled into a Republican rally on their way to the Coachella rock festival. In many cases, hair was aggressive, clothing artfully tattered. Beards seemed to have a mind of their own.
We're not all under 30...I know many RP supporters who are over 40! I know it's hard to believe...and I really don't think the majority of the crowd was as dishelveled as this reporter indicates. Too "hippy-ish" sounding. I wasn't there but I have seen many rally videos and I see quite a cross section of folks, young, middle, older, families...that's what's so inspiring about the message - it s ageless as well as timeless.
This is the message of the Beatles, the Dylans of the world,”
And it's the older crowd who know this message...
Good article as a whiole though.
Thanks for posting.
This article would have been
This article would have been more useful if it were published several months ago when it was still early in primary season.
several months ago...
Ron Paul was BLACKBALLED by this dirty old RAG! they are doing nothing more now than to try and appease you and i and all of the RP supporters because they know we have "numbers"...numbers that can hurt or help a tired piece of crap, neo-new world order fueled propaganda machine for the "elite"
see them for what they are and leave them to rot in the street with the rest...
wha?
why is this in the 'Fashion' section of the website???? This is politics!!!!!!
Good article
Long live Sanskrit and Yoga!!!
And the r3VOLution will continue to live just as long...
What would Ron Paul do?
Subtle Derision
The author's insistence of youthful, spiked haired crowds thinking they
were at a rock concert...and continual Paulville comments paint
this article as less than acceptable...although there were many positives
the essence screamed NUTCASE CANDIDATE....
The NY Times will go away...but the ideas RP are putting forth won't!
The photos
don't jive with that description. Often the writer has no control over the photos. I'm guessing that was the case here because the photos are nice. The people look like regular folks. Love the picture of the little girl sleeping.
And Rick, you look like a cross between John Cusack and Keanu Reeves.
good article.
good article.
good article, my ass!
you are full of bs!
Freedom as Utopia?
There you have it, folks... That's the gist of the article. What else can we expect from the MSM? I don't know in what section of the paper this appeared, but it should have been in "Fashion", considering the amount of ink it gives to the appearance of the people in the movement. Stick to your guns, hacks: If you can't kill the message, go for the messenger. Real classy, if you ask me...
It IS in the "Fashion & Style" section of the newspaper...
...so there you go.
http://groups.yahoo.com/g...
Case in point...
Should the good doctor's campaign really be covered in that fluffy and useless section of the NYT? I won't even go into the fact that fashion is just another ploy to get us into crass consumerism, encouraging credit slavery, depletion of resources and landfill pollution, by making what we bought last season obsolete. Well, maybe I'll go into it a little bit...
you are good...
preach on, brother...we're listening!
Don't...
get me started!....
A good article...
And from the sounds of it, un-biased. While the article does say some RP'ers make the freedom movement almost a religious thing, it didn't paint people as crazies. Sure they jabbed in that RP has almost no chance of winning the Rep. Nomination, but the fact that they are speaking of RP in a good light is refreshing. Could it be that this little bit of good press by such a name as the NY Times might allow others to become less critical and more open to the freedom movement? I certainly hope so.
Ron Paul cured my apathy!
i know your heart is in the right place, but...
this article was written/designed, however you want to characterize it, to pull you in...to get you on the writer's "side" before he ZINGS you with the points you will remember the most tomorrow...
and, quickly, who is the writer? more directly, who are the writers? nothing about RP in the msm (the freakin' nyt, no less) is left to chance
sure, you liked the article...but, what do you (and most neutral people) remember the most about it? ...RP looks sad, he has zero chance of winning the presidency...and the deepest most distressing part of the whole article is that they want us to look like we belong to a "cult" or, religious extremists living in a commune...see paulville/latter day saints comparisons...no, i did NOT like the way these "authors" tried to have their cake and eat it too, with us!
think about that before you pass judgement on this being a "good" article
in my humble opinion this article sucked!
no, i won't subscribe
Divide the GOP
I think part of what is happening, is that the media realizes that if the vote is divided on the Republican side, then McCain will have less of a chance of winning. And many Ron Paul supporters are going to vote for him regardless of whether he gets the nomination.
Either Ron Paul or demise of GOP, end of Story.
Yeah, it's either Ron Paul or I am happy to embrace the demise of GOP in November. If that's the only way we can rid of the hold "false conservatives" (neocons) have on our party, so be it.
What would Ron Paul do?
i'm with you, buddy...
if not RP, i hope the Republicans crash and burn in a Democratic, socialistic bonfire...its the only thing to wake up these sheeple who think mckook can do anything to save this country...
Ron Paul would stand on
Ron Paul would stand on principle.
amazingly...
so do i!
