I'm of the opinion that Dr. Paul will catch Thompson by November 5th. If not, he's sure to catch hi after that. If I had the money, I would SO invest in this "stock."

Ron Paul, Educating America

I watched the Tonight show last night, and the same thing that I feel dilutes President Pauls' message was on full display. He speaks from the perspective of someone who has an intimate grasp of the issues, but he doesn't dumb it down for the less educated electorate, who make up a majority of voters. If he spoke slower, he would be more effective in getting his point across. When someone speaks too quickly, it has the effect of rushing the mind of the one listening, and makes the speaker seem confused. I don't think it's as important to get it all in as it is to make the audience feel like the points are worth the time it takes for comprehension. One or 2 well understood points are better than 7 or 8 rushed over points. Part of it, I think, is his humbleness in not wanting to take up too much time...part of it may be rookie angst. However, if he truly feels that the message is carrying the day, not necessarily just him, then humbleness to the message is more important than to the listener. If he goes over for a few seconds or minutes...so what? All of the other "First-tier" blowhards seem to have figured out when to take the time they need to make their points. And, lets not forget, the American people are, by and large, going to vote just as much for style as they are for substance. I mean, how many people have actually had a beer with GW Bush? Or gone hunting with Cheney? Or cried with Bill Clinton? Or acted alongside Reagan or Thompson? We internet Paulites/junkies are already won over. Mass appeal requires more than mass exposure. The key word is "Appeal". Like that guy said to Russell Crowe in Gladiator "Win the crowd and you win your freedom". Hopefully, someone in President Pauls' inner circle is working on presentation skills with him.

By the way, I did like the line when he said "I'm flawed, but the message isn't" (I'm paraphrasing)

When Ron Paul gets a chance to speak his piece, in peace, his messege really resonates and hits home. He was actually winning over Leno. Most people are just like Jay Leno, they don't believe that there can be a solution - much less a simple solution. Ron is doing an excellent job of convincing people that it can be done. I loved the points on:

Flat Tax? Yeah, I'd support a flat tax, as in really flat, like zero.
If you abolish the income tax, the money doesn't go away, it simply stays at home, in your pocket.

Go Ron Paul. Look at the others scramble. They're still talking about the same old stale issues that we all know don't amount to a hill of beans. The way I see it is the Federal Government has become an obnoxious dragon. While Ron Paul is willing to fight and slay the dragon, all the others (Dems & Reps) are content to keep on riding the dragon and snorting the spoils.

Dr. Paul's smile at the very end of the broadcast (after shaking John Lydon's hand) was absolutely priceless. That winning grin will forever be burned into my mind. It wasn't a cheesy grin (although all the hallmarks were there), but rather a grin of satisfaction, disbelief and amazement. I can't recall seeing so much vibrancy and genuine happiness in Ron Paul's demeanor...at least not on the teevee! And all in just three short seconds. Last night's appearance by Dr. Paul was a watershed moment for his campaign. Seriously.

I watched the entire broadcast with a friend who is aware of Dr. Paul, but spends most of his free time watching sports. My friend was very impressed with Dr. Paul's performance on The Tonight Show, providing me with some valuable insight into what first impressions Ron Paul might set. It's good to get reinforcing comments from those who are still unconcerned with the 2008 presidential bid.

p.s. I am a fan of John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) and I think he was being as respectable to Dr. Paul as a true punk rocker could be. And I also enjoyed the performance of "Anarchy in the U.K." Who would have thought that broadcast teevee could be so engaging?

I was impressed with how it went. In particular, with Jay starting off with informing people about Paul being a medical doctor, OB, and being in the Air Force. This was very strong.

I still think that Dr. Paul needs to make the point about the war and the federal reserve and money and inflation and how it affects those on fixed income better. When Leno asked Paul, well, you want to abolish Social Security? I cringed. Also when Paul made a case about how glad young people would be to opt out of Social Security, I think this is a minor point, and this is not at all what is driving young student support for Dr. Paul.

He makes the points, but not well, and since this is a new message, people need to hear it over and over again, each time said simply and plainly.

The Fed enables wars, since wars cost tons of money, and having the Fed enables the gov't to carry out wars without taxing people by printing money. Printing money causes inflation. The inflation indicators hide true inflation. and RETIRED PEOPLE ON FIXED INCOMES CAN NO LONGER LIVE. I never hear this point. Otherwise, retirees, who vote in droves, are going to be worried about "well, Paul is going to abolish Medicare and Social Security". Paul needs to emphasize how inflation is being hidden, in that it excludes food and energy costs. How people go to the grocery store and spend 100 dollars, and find they've bought almost nothing. How the elderly are being forced out of homes because of large increases in property taxes and food.

Basically, people care primarily about their own economic well-being first. This is what wins elections. I think that Dr. Paul has a way to go in terms of emphasizing those parts of his message that will have the broadest appeal.

I too liked the interview. I think Ron Paul was relaxed and eloquent. Very humble. Kind of neighborly (without the barking dogs).
I read some negative posts earlier before I saw the video. Some were concerned that ncb was making fun of Ron Paul. I figured that since it was the tonight show where people go to laugh one would expect to have some fun poked at them. It's a roast type situation. Go back and look at the Dean Martin roast of Barry Goldwater. Thats comedy for you. No exemptions.
But Mr. Leno was quite professional with his questions and he gave Ron Paul a chance to answer them.
And the Paul/clinton joke was very funny and original.

When Ron appeared on the Daily Show months back, John Stewart introduced him by saying something like...

"My next guest is a 10 term Congressman from Texas, current Presidential candidate, and his wife makes really good fish sticks..."

But don't blame Jay. I mean, it's not like he steals material from other sources all the time. (sarcasm warning)

I agree: This is probably the best line of the campaign, and Dr. Paul's delivery was perfect.
Jay's fish stick joke was great too.
Maybe we should adopt the fish stick as a symbol of the campaign. The box of fish sticks that's in our freezer isn't flashy and a lot of people would turn up their noses at it. But to a starving man it would be a godsend.
This wonderful, humble man we support usually isn't the slickest one on the stage, but to a nation starved for liberty...

I thought Jay and Ron hit on most of the issues that Ron should have talked about, especially the abolishment of the income tax/IRS, and giving Ron a chance to explain how it could be done.

I was a bit concerned that the campaign wasn't going to direct the interview, but they set the script nearly perfectly (imo) to get the message across.

Now let's hope that the TV audience will connect with Ron's message and throw him their support.

Let's list his shortcomings: he is humble, he is honest, he has integrity, he is consistent, he is utterly loyal to the Constitution,... no these aren't shortcomings... how we have been duped in accepting that our politicians should have big egos, be con-artists, liars, abusers of the Constitution.... and then we vote for them. Ron Paul, he has no equal among his peers. Cometh the hour, cometh the man!

It was one of his best performances ever.

And just think how many people he reached.

I thought that Dr. Paul and Leno were on the same page. Leno set him up to help clarify his positions, like when he asked him if he was an isolationist. It is something that Ron Paul gets called which isn't true, and he was able to set it straight. It seemed like Leno is an undeclared Ron Paul supporter, but he can't say that he supports him b/c his job requires him to stay completely neutral. Great interview, Ron Paul came across as a genuinely nice person.

btw, I thought the Ron Paul/Clinton joke about asking women to take off their clothes was really really funny.

these dudes are interested in nothing other than feeding their damned faces. they are not talented musicians and are nothing more than average in the mental category as well. also they are obvious candidates to succumb to the sellout enticements of the ruling establishment (being hungry in old age, etc).

What a great day for the Ron Paul campaign and supporters, the show was awesome, the crowd going wild when he was introduced was mad.

There was an article posted on digg that stated that after the Jay Leno show that the Ron Paul site had crashed due to the volume in traffic, I'm not sure if this is true or not, but the issue is regarding November 5th, there is going to be a hell of a lot of traffic on RP site that day, does anyone know if his server can handle it?

boy o boy it was a GREAT interview! the doc was so relaxed and cool. he looked right at home.
it was a great interview - absolutely great! jay leno was respectful and asked some good questions and the doc came off smelling like a rose - a real class act!
how could anyone not LOVE this man???

An absolute ass kicking homerun! Now this is the Ron Paul everyone needed to see and did, this is the sell job I have been waiting for. He was wearing a tailored suit that looked great and his hair was styled nicely, looking good Doc! He got some excellent talking points across all the while cutting up and enjoying himself, he wasn't nervous in the beginning just very excited. Ron has a warm, disarming, fatherly demeanor that is very powerful, when people take to the guy they don't just like him, they love him. What everyone heard and saw tonight is a flat out honest stand up guy who is clearly the best choice for President. More guest appearances will soon follow we are freakin on our way, there is no stopping him now.

I thought this interview went PERFECTLY. Honestly, I couldn't ask for anything better! THANK YOU JAY LENO

I noticed as Johnney Rotten (John Linden) who is the singer of the Sex Pistols was in between lyrics he said a couple of things to Ron Paul. The first was I think.

"Hello Mr. Paul"

and the second...

"So when are you planning to get out of Iraq"

I can't really tell if the Sex Pistols were applauding Dr. Paul or just shuving it to him because he is a politician.....I mean come on, Ron Paul is the closest thing to an Anarchist presidential candidate out there being a libertarianistic Constitutionalist. Plus his views on ending the war on drugs and guns rights I'm sure is something all anarchists agree on.

If you think just because the Sex Pistols were singing a song about Anarchy doesn't reflect their views, then think again. Mr. Johnney Rotten, I would say, has had a pretty consistant background on anarchy. He(with the rest of the band) even publicly denied the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame award...while bashing the industry within their statement.

It was great to see Ron Paul on the show. I think that his demeanor was the best yet and he was able to speak clearly and comfortably, probably to many across the nation who are still learning about him. I was a bit confused when Jay Leno introduced the Sex Pistols (whose performance was terrible!) by pointing to Ron Paul and saying something like, "good follow up" or some comment that implied their song about anarchy was akin to Ron Paul's message...Ron Paul's message is quite the opposite! Ron Paul made a good point on that note. Even though Ron Paul may have shortcomings, the message he carries does not - Go Ron Paul!!

That was damned good! Dr. Paul seemed relaxed and he SMILED quite a bit, got his points across rather well. The 0% flat tax rate line was hilarious! Glad to see that sense of humor come through! Leno was a little tough on the questions but fair and didn't get on his case at all.

Paul was great. I was nervous too about the cough. He should have asked for some water!

But the Sex Pistols, oh man, i thought were horrible. They felt too aggressive and I dont think Paul responded to them very well because they sang about destruction. Paul wants to heal the world, not destroy it!

And I agree about the overall vibe, felt very much oriented around Paul.

Great overall! Shoulda shot the pistols though!

Hew, I was getting a bit nervous just before the monologue. All dissipated after the overwhelming, not on cue, natural cheer. Left Coast keepin it real. As someone else mentioned, there seemed to have been plenty of RP supporters at the taping!!! Rockin!

SO proud of Doctor Paul, and every last one of you who attended. RP, a class act as always. I was hoping he wouldn't get too nervous, as there were a few moments of dry mouth coughs. Surprisingly for show, in about 9min, he got to communicate quite a bit about where he stands. Love it. Don't know what the average rating for the Tonight Show is. But I am guessing it should be around 13 million viewers. And I have a distinct feeling that Ron Paul really was the star of the show, and seemed like people came to hear him speak, more so than Cruise. Just guessing... from the vibe.

Dug the Rotten shoutout. Didn't know where he stood, but after he sings "when are we gonna get out of Iraq," in between the guitar solo, I had a feeling he'd be aware of Ron Paul's stance on the issues. Definitely a plus.

Anyone on DailyPaul forum, or a Cali MeetUp attend the Tonight Show? Any greenroom, or audience stories?? Plus anyone here attend the Dem debates where the Revolution banners were flying in full force??

Overall, awesome. Ain't no stopping the Good Doctor, or us, now.

I'm gonna see if shock rock/social commentary band GWAR will elude to Paul during their stage show.

He did great! He was funny, intellegent, relaxed, and didn't give one inch! I know they have applause signs, but did you hear the amount of enthusiasm when RP was announced during the monolouge?!

Dr. Paul was relaxed and comfortable, and got his great message out. Jay Leno was a gentleman, first class. I laughed spontaneously at Ron Paul's flat tax answer and the speculatory inquiry on whether Dr. Paul was in it to win - priceless answer! . Ron Paul was wonderful tonight. I hope that the people new to Dr. Paul thought so, but it was such a beautiful thing to see on High Definition 50-inch plasma and on Youtube afterward.

But I'm pretty sure he likes Ron Paul. Johnny is very much against corporate-driven anything.
