Washington Post Slander
by Rand Paul | May 28, 2008
The Washington Post recently reports that I was paid to be a surrogate speaker for my father, Ron Paul. This is an outright lie.
I was never paid to speak for my father. In fact, the vast majority of the time, I was not even reiumbursed for expenses. I travelled to St. Louis, Paducah, Elizabethtown, South Carolina, Nashville, Louisville, Washington, DC, and New Hampshire (four times) at my expense. I paid to transport my entire family to New Hampshire to go door-to-door for my father.
I never received any salary from the campaign. The campaign paid my air fare (coach) to Montana for two speeches.
They say we should take solace in the fact that Ron Paul is still important enough to attack but I'm still too mad to be mollified.

Jeez
They will stop at nothing to slander the good doctor and his family. What a bunch of tripe when McCain has fund raisers overseas and no telling what else these other candidates are up to, and you NEVER hear anything about that! Jerks.
With nothing else to talk about...
...they have to make stuff up.
You see, they are more used to "so-and-so's campaign manager was forced to resign today when it was discovered he was a former lobbyist for a baby harp seal clubbing organization...."
They're not used to good people working for good people for a good cause. It melts their braincases.
Don't be discouraged. RP will be nominated from the floor at the convention.
Then all hell breaks loose.
Thank you for your efforts
It's informative to see how much the powers that be (both Democrats and Republicans) are frightened silly by a man who promises peace, fiscal responsibility, and Constitutional government.
Hacks: Matthew Mosk: Writer and Alice Crites, Research Editor
Whats the purpose of the article? Political. Period. It's great to watch uneducated hacks that make a living as 'journalists', put their foot in their mouth.
Writers and researchers must be held accountable. Period.
I called the Washington Post and left a voice message for Matthew Mosk. I wanted to get clarity on his accusation that Dr. Paul, as printed, is "preaching an isolationist foreign policy" and why his article did not point out operational procedures of other candidates currently running for President.
As mentioned in his own article, "There are no laws prohibiting candidates from hiring relatives, though the Federal Election Commission does require family members to be qualified for the job and be paid the going rate for their work. Melanie Sloan of the group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington said her organization has twice issued reports critical of the practice among members of Congress."
Also, I wanted him to clarify what he meant by, "insurgent bid" for presidency.
To leave a voice mail, call and ask for Matthew Mosk at: 202-334-6000
just called
He didn't sound like he was having a good day. I had to "preach the differance between isolationist and non-interventionalist. I told him very politely " I know you don't know the differance but you really should look information up before you start feeding it to the readers."(paraphrase).
He sounds like he is young. I guess the WP has run out of "well read" writers.
Not that young...
Here he is:
Matthew Mosk
He's not that young-- just willfully stupid.

Just heard the information from this colum repeated
Fox News Channel
America's Pulse with E.D. Hill at 2:46 pm EST.
She was interviewing a well known investigative reporter who has a special coming up called "Porked: Earmarks for Profit." When the reporter mentioned a congressional member who was getting money "backdoor" through one of his earmarks, E.D. Hill mentioned that she recently read an article about how one of RP's sons got paid a few hundred dollars for work he did on his father's campaign. She then went on to comment how the practice is legal but somewhat dirty.
Just wanted to say,in case someone who reads this, decides to email fox or e.d. hill, that my wording may not be exactly the same as hers but close.
We were getting paid?
I was never paid to campaign for my Dad. I did not want to be paid. I did have a hotel stay in Iowa and New Hampshire covered by the campaign. I traveled to Kansas, Oklahoma, N.H.(entire family), and around Texas spending my own money. I was proud to do it and I am insulted by the WP article. Why do they fear freedom so much?
Robert Paul
Glad to have you here good sir.
We have your back.

We can all say what needs to be done, but who here led by example today?
What a joke!
EVEN IF the family members received this money it would be something like .006 % of the total. In other words out of $30,000,000 the Washington post says that $169,000 went to paying the family. So out of every dollar donated 6 tenths out of one penny was payed. Organizations that are supposed to feed children in other countries loose about 10% of the total along the way. Why don't they write an article about that?
With all of the time spent campaigning and spreading this message how are they supposed to feed and cloth themselves? In my eyes it would be money well spent especially to family members that have dedicated their lives to saving our country from a government that has ran off it's tracks. I donated about $100 (I don't have alot) and in my eyes it was some of the best money I have ever spent. My wife has a saying and it goes "If they are not talking about you then they must have forgotten about you". I really hope that Americans would look at the article and see the bias in it.
Ron Paul and family
Have no explaining to do. God bless them one and all for the familys sacrifice. "When the good of the many out weighs the good of the one."
Trying to turn Paul Supporters Away
Articles like this are meant to try and turn us away from Ron Paul, like he is dishonest like the rest of them so we might as well pick McCain.
I do like that they are still bothering to try and attack his character, that means they are still talking about us behind closed doors. Trying to figure out what to do million plus Americans that voted for him!
Good Luck! We keep growing everyday!
I can certainly understand why you are angry
but as slam pieces go, this one made little sense. Frankly, I think you should have been paid and other family members who are working on the campaign should be paid too. My wife has her own business, if I work for her she pays me, this is neither unethical or illegal, and she often does use me because she can trust me and because I am willing to work with conditions a normal employee either can't or won't be able to handle.
I view it as the reverse of damning with faint praise, this is praising with faint damnation. Although I doubt this is the author's intent.
Free and Brave
or Cradle to Grave
You can't have both
isn't more like...
LIBEL because it was printed?
This is the same paper
whose op-ed section called Ron Paul's campaign an "insurgent candidacy." This term may at first glance seem innocuous, it is obviously charged with the language from the war on terror. They need to be corrected and a retraction issued.
The honesty of Ron Paul's Campaign is Amazing
And hence the media blackout. If Ron Paul got 10% of the media coverage of hillary, mccain, or clinton, it wouldn't matter if elections were rigged because it would be evident that the majority of people voted for him as president. :-)
I'm just as angry about the
I'm just as angry about the media blackouts, GOP state convention "rule changes" and shennanagins, vote fraud..... where do I stop? Rand, you do your country a great service by fighting for liberty with your father. Don't be discouraged because the rats are scurrying around. Thank you for all your work.

Wow, They really ARE reaching, Rand.
Talk about straining to write something negative.
The press will do ANYTHING to avoid addressing substantive issues with Ron Paul.
Makes my blood boil too.
Don't apologize Rand
It doesn't matter what money the campaign spent on your travels, or even if they had had you on the paid staff...whatever was spent was a good value for my money.
The Washington Post is reaaaaaly reaching here.
Dear Rand,
affirmation: President Paul 2008
Like so many others, I am humbly grateful for the courage, passion and steadfast commitment that you and your beautiful family have for this country and its people. Thank you for all that you do........
a slander?
Why it is a slander, to tell that someone has been paid? Is beeing paid something wrong? For sex... maybe, but here. I don't get it.
Second. Where do they (The WP) get those info from? There must be some sort of source.
Slander
Legal definition: Slander is an untruthful oral (spoken) statement about a person that harms the person's reputation or standing in the community.
I personally would not have an issue if Rand had been paid. However by the sort of ethics that the Washington Post espouses, it is somehow unacceptable for one family member to be paid for performing a service for another.
I Trust Ron Paul...
...and so can you. I have known many preachers and some of them I would not trust with a lot of money (many of them I could), but I have never met a politician I could trust until I learned of Ron Paul (I am almost 52). I have met him, looked him in the eye and shaken his hand, but that means nothing as far as integrity goes. Anyone can look good. The reason I trust Ron Paul is because I have watched him and listened to him as much as I could. It is in listening to someone talk over a long period of time or at least several different times and in several different situations that you have a real chance to determine their integrity.
Furthermore, I have read his writings and checked his voting record and it fits perfectly with what he stands for. Also, he has been consistent through many years. He is not a will-o-the-wisp. He does not check to see which way the political winds are blowing before he speaks or votes.
Also, power and authority have not been able to corrupt him because he submits himself to the Constitution and thinks all other government officials should too.
His integrity reminded me of this scripture:
"Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully." 2 Kings 12:15
Ron Paul has been faithful with everything in his life that I know of. Look at his marriage, his children. (I was very impressed with Rand Paul in a recent video I saw of him speaking.)
I wish the Washington Post would be sued for libel and or defamation of character.
I would be glad to testify against them!
Go Ron Paul! Don't slow down for the liars and naysayers!
I didn't read their ignorant
I didn't read their ignorant article, nor do I care to. They are just frustrated because they can't find anything substantial to dig up on Ron Paul, so now lying about something like this. I did listen to Rand's message posted here on the daily paul, and it was WONDERFUL!!! They just hate it so much because they can tell Ron taught his children well. The truth shall prevail-the Revolution continues!!!!
Same old story
.
The Washington Post has been under the control of the CIA for quite a while now - going back to the days of Ben Bradley and Watergate.
That they are still trying to marginalize Dr. Paul - while it may be old news - is still unsettling.
About all Rand can do is to point to the lapdog press. Not much, but worth the effort I bet.
Washington Post's Lies
They all lie! We knew Rand wouldn't take money from his father. If any others believed it, and I don't think they do. Because I seen all the comments on their page, that said the article was ridiculous. I didn't make any comment due to the fact the article wasn't worth the page it was written on!
The media's time is coming, Scott McClelland even noted in his book the way the media is acting (all of them!)! People are waking up because they are making asses out of themselves. I absolutely refuse to watch and/or read them anymore, cause it's all trash and lies to sway public opinion THEIR way, like we don't have enough sense to think for ourselves? Well, you bet we do, that's why there is a REVOLUTION!
Know this
when these criminals are brought to justice the editorial staff of the Washington Post will be among them. They will face a judge.
Between 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq the Washington Post published 26 "above the fold" articles in support of the invasion.
Murder and treason. All of this scum is owned by Warren Buffett.
Cowards and liars who have engineered a bunch of hit pieces on Dr. Paul.
Rand, I didn't care if you were paid
I prefer a politician who works with friends and family over one that works with the corporate lobbyists and power elite. If you got paid, I would have supported it. It does not surprise me that you did it without pay, though. Thanks!

Further angering me to take more outgoing action of educating others on RP and Freedom...see you all in DC on JULY 12th!

Message to Rand Paul
Please take legal action against the Washington Post.

here's
Here's the article, http://www.dailypaul.com/...
"The wicked flee when no man pursueth, but the righteous are as bold as a lion."
What a non-story
Even if and I said IF Rand Paul's expenses were paid by the campaign it would not be a scandal or even unreasonable. It is public knowledge that the campaign still has around 5 million dollars so it is reasonable to assume the money was spent carefully.
After all I looked up fiscal responsibility in the dictionary and there was a picture of Rand's dad.
The media outlets are nothing to behold
My wife and I and numerous friends here in Pennsylvania supported Dr. Paul's campaign very early on and it continued over many months and continues even today. I would have given more (if allowed). Every time the MSM dismissed Dr. Paul I would dig down deeper and encourage others to do the same. The television cable was turned off several months ago after I could no longer stomach the lies and deception spinning from the news corporations. Not having television actually feels quite liberating. The washington post piece does not surprise me or any one else on this site. It is more of the same from the same. I will continue to support Congressman Paul and every member of his family by spreading his message, their message, our message, the message of freedom, peace and prosperity.
letter to editor response
has anyone done this yet?
This twit writer was trying
This twit writer was trying to jump on the Paul slander wagon is all; thinking writing anything about Paul would win him an audience to further his career. It was laughable to suggest that the campaign paying any of the family was questionable. I believe the comments on the article thread said it all. We love the Paul family and appreciate all you are doing for our country. I think I speak for most that we completely trust Paul with our donations and to spend the money for whatever is necessary to continue to spread the message. We didn't believe it for a minute and still stand by Ron's side to fight fight fight!!!
I would demand
a front page retraction.
Go get 'em Rand!
“It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important . . . You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result. Gandhi
Apparently
the WP doesn't need to fact-check anymore. Most of today's media are either too afraid to tell the truth or are bought and paid for. Dr. Paul is free to spend my donations however he sees fit. He has proven to be very careful with the money, which for me, is more confirmation that I sent it to the right guy.

"I killed the banks"
Outraged
An American citizen would be very upset at such a public noted lies about themselves. As the son of the most honest man American politics have ever seen as his son to be wrongfully attacked is a complete outrage.
A revolution is way over due. When peaceful doesnt work then what, are we prepared.
thnk you manystrom for bringing the truth out.
It seems Ron Paul is really scaring some people .
The zionist globalist oligarchy will stop at nothing to slander Ron Paul and his family. But they will only fail.
Thnks to Dr Rand Paul for clearing up their disgusting lies
