supporters won't back down from plans to hold an insurgent state convention, even though the state party has scheduled a sanctioned gathering in July to finish electing national delegates.
Paul supporters argue the party's July 26 date is so late there would be no time to regroup if problems similar to those that forced the abrupt end of the convention in April recur. National delegates must be elected by Aug. 1.
"A date so late in July is simply not reasonable," said Dr. Wayne Terhune, a Sparks dentist paying for convention space at the Grand Sierra Resort to resume the convention on June 28. "We don't want to run out of time and possibly be forced into a mail-in ballot or an appointed delegation."

Republican officials said the June 28 event is not sanctioned by the party and delegates elected there would not be recognized by the national committee. Terhune contends he needs a simple majority of delegates for a quorum to reconvene and elect delegates.

The state party has scheduled the convention to resume at the Peppermill Hotel Casino.

The state's first convention attempt came to a raucous end when party officials decided it would take too long to elect national delegates. Earlier in the day, Paul's supporters had won a rules change that appeared to be leading to a national slate of mostly Paul delegates.

It's taken the party more than a month to reschedule the convention, while Paul supporters have accused party leaders of obstructing democracy.

Zachary Moyle, the state party's executive director, disputed the party tried to cut anybody out of the process, saying everything has been done in an open manner using rules established two decades ago.

He also said extra security has been hired for the convention after some delegates called party headquarters concerned about their safety.

"A lot of people have been calling saying they felt threatened during the convention," Moyle said. "One of our biggest things is we have to have order and security. We had two police officers the first time. Unfortunately, we have to have more than that this time."

While no violence erupted at the last convention, state Sen. Bob Beers, R-Las Vegas and presiding chairman, was rushed out of the building by security after angry and shouting delegates surrounded the stage moments after he called it to an abrupt close.

The "Revolution" of 1776

was actually a war of secession. An insurgent convention is the best idea so far in this campaign.

"Insurgent" Convention

I view the insurgents as those who walked out of the convention in the first place, way back on April 26th. The group which is reconvening on the 28th of June are simply trying to "fix" that which they broke in a timely fashion which is more just to the entire group of delegates. The NV GOP leadership should show good faith by joining the soon to be reconvened convention at the Grand Sierra Hotel. To do otherwise, and to schedule a later date is a true indication of their lack of enthusiasm (am I a diplomat or what?) for the results of the vote which was taking place.

IT'S DOABLE

YES - We were threatened

by the State Committee & the McCainites! They marched out in a very negative manner, hurling invective as they left. We stood up & asked these people leaving to stay. They were the ones cursing at us.The lights were turned out immediately, the sound was cut to the mic on the podium. We were stunned by this behavior. How was this any way to end a convention? We had just seen a video by Newt Gingrinch & been given a speech by his associate, there was no evidence of any haste in the proceedings, or that there was a time this all had to wrap up. If there had been an emergency (there had been a large earthquake the night before that rocked the hotel/casino & lots of aftershocks), we would have been in great harm. It took about a half hour for the lights to come back on, and the sound another 15 minutes or so. The floor was littered with literature, paper cups & all kinds of stuff to trip on. The hotel & GOP is lucky no one was hurt. So, when they talk about bodily harm, they put those who stayed in harms way much more than those who left.
This has to get out to the media.

Good points

Rather like yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. In a subsequent speech to one of the central committees in Minden by Bob Beers, he made light of the reaction of first time convention goers, "it may not be moral, but it is legal." My foot, what a condescening comment. The only avenue Bob Beers has for a future in the NV GOP (the new future), is to pick up that gavel on June 28th and lead as chairmain of the reconvene. We need to encourage him. The NV GOP should have been gratified to have such a large number of participants at the Apr. 26th date....new blood...new enthusiasm, but no, they make condescending remarks instead. I agree with Cynthia, this needs to get out to the media, somehow.

IT'S DOABLE

The GOP

is way out of line in many states. If they had simply been fair, they probably would have won, but they had to act like dictators because they see it patterned by DC. Now they are creating more problems for themselves because they are disenfranchising honest Republicans. We just want to be able to vote, to explain our point of view, but NO. No free speech in this US.

can't stop this revolution

the more GOP fears us the more mistakes they make...
