In a way, yes, their are many ways of setting up this kind of system and it is also self controling. For example, if farmers were to set up cooperatives to produce alcohol bio-fuel from hemp, for each gallon of alcohol produced at the cooperative refinery a note of 1 gallon is issued and redeemable for 1 gallon. When the note is redeemed it is withdrawn from circulation and there are less notes on the market corresponding to less alcohol. The producers know by how many notes have been redeemed and can produce accordingly. There theoretically would never be inflation on the notes, and if the producer could not get anyone to take his notes he would know not to produce more alcohol form hemp. Alcohol doesn't spoil. He could then switch to corn or other product and do the same thing, store corn and issue notes in the value of different values as well. Corn can be stored for many years so there would be a gauge of control on this product as well. Of course this would eliminate the need for paper FRN dollars which can be printed without limit and would prevent the government from taking our gold again if we were to switch to a strictly gold back money. Gold could be used for other purposes such as private savings or intergovernmental transactions. Don't have all the details since I never majored in economic, just a laymen.
What's the problem? Forget those imaginary lines called national boundaries. That article just discusses some people (foreigners) investing (trading) with other people (Americans). It appears these investment transactions are entered voluntarily by all participants - which is what free trade is all about.
This is why we agree we should be able to pay off our debt in something other than dollars. I know you prefer gold, and that would be great, as long as we don't have to continue to pay income taxes and property taxes. I would prefer a much broader choice of products to use as money, even if it included alcohol for biofuel produced from hemp, I am sure it would be a better backing for money than oil. In fact we could even make the bills from hemp fiber.

Kind of like bartering.

What choice do we have?

You are talking about "bartering" for goods and services.
This is the oldest form of economics, trading goods or services for other goods and services.
As for me and my family
we will laugh at you ignorance. Get rid of the shit. Talk about issues without your religious flare. Are you going to be raptured?
