TIME: The Ron Paul Revolution
Submitted by jron on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 07:46
It sometimes seems as if someone is playing a cruel practical joke on Ron Paul. He goes to a college and delivers the same speech he's given for the past 30 years of his political career, the one espousing the Austrian school of economics. Only now the audience is packed with hundreds...

TIME aren't interested in facts.
I found some good stuff about TIME in case anybody is interested.
"We believe we can be subsidized by the Advertiser by giving him value for value received and without compromising more than a small fraction of our journalistic soul. That small fraction we are frankly willing to sell for a price." TIME founder, Henry Luce.
And from the book "Luce and His Empire" (W.A. Swanberg. Charles Scribner & Sons, New York 1972):
It has become a parlor game among seasoned observers of TIME magazine's brand of Journalism to spot the real agenda hidden behind the printed words. The players know that TIME still marches to the drum beat of its founder, Henry Luce, for whom, "News manipulation was sheer policy, TIME's way of life, performed as a matter of office routine."
Ralph Ingersoll, an ex-TIME staffer, put it best: "The way to tell a successful lie is to include enough truth in it to make it believable - and TIME is the most successful liar of our times."
Hey mosmom3...
...I'm older than you are...don't you just love it when they keep calling us kids???? :D
Heh, my meetup group ranges in age from 17-76 (how's that for cool!) and the ones in their 70's are quite active.
Yep were all Crazy....right up to the minute he wins the
ELECTION!
Let the elitist think whatever they want but i encourage everyone to use this to our advantage. I am rallying my neighbors with information like this...I think they feel part of something when they see the real facts and then compare them to whats on the news and in print. I encourage everyone to talk to your neighbors and ...as dreaded as it may sound...bring up the politics subject! We will WIN before they ever even know what happen!

Yet another bad, unresearched article
There is no such things as "bad press" they say...
But this is typical shoddy reporting, with the intent to influence public opinion away from Ron Paul.
Don't forget: The Big Elitist-run "MainStream Media" is public enemy #1 right now.
Keep fighting for Ron Paul. Keep fighting for the U.S. Constitution. Keep fighting to save America. Don't relent until we've won our country back.
Clueless
Author Joel Stein seems clueless about where Ron Paul's support is coming from. If he's really covered RP for 30 years, as he suggests, then he knows Ron has a Libertarian following. The guy in the tricorn hat--ringing a bell?? Clue??
Ron Paul has created his own special liberty following over the years, Mr. Stein. And this is what sets him apart from Howard Dean, Mr. Stein and Mr. Boortz.
30 years of such things as his online newsletter, "Texas Straight Talk"; his reputation in the college economics community; the 35-year old Libertarian Party, which has trained thousands of liberty ambassadors; and the Free State Project, among others, have provided a significant core following.
All the chanting college students? No, no one really expected that. If you read what the college students say, Ron Paul is who they want, based on research. Let me guess-the background wasn't found on Time magazine. So, it sounds like most of them are savvy kids.
Are they a problem? ALL the other candidates wish they had this kind of problem.
But don't worry. All that talk about the Federal Reserve and stuff isn't serious. Ron Paul is clearly no threat. These aren't the droids you're looking for. They can go about their business.
15 minutes of fame
Well, I never thought my picture would make it to the front page of Yahoo! Not the best picture, but I guess it shows my excitement:) What a great day that was! The best was when the huge crowd of us followed Ron to Grand Central Station and he addressed the crowd, without a mike, from the top of the landing. Talk about electric! Even the people that didn't know who he was, knew he was somebody GREAT!
There is hope for America.
There is hope for America.
YAHOO Front Page News!!!
This same Time magazine article is now posted on the main page of YAHOO.
Go Ron Paul...it has up to 4 STARS**** after the article...this means lots of people are curious and reading about him!
Ladies and Gentlemen
I hate to say it, but we need to be a little more thick-skinned than this. About 5 1/2 paragraphs are more or less positive and 3 1/2 paragraphs are more or less negative. Overall, the piece was surprisingly fair. Yes, they had to look for someone (Frank Duntz) to be critical of Dr. Paul (and his 'crabgrass'). But Klein's job is not to provide pro-Paul propaganda.
The piece follows the pattern that most magazine articles do:
1. Headline
2. Statements to support for the headline
3. The 'However' portion [the opposing view(s) to 2.]
4. Closing statement about the future
You could read 10 stories about candidates and 8 would probably follow the same pattern. I'm just glad he's even being mentioned in a magaizine as widespread as Time. Now let's focus on getting RP elected!
Peace be with you.
Luntz Again
From the Time article:
"His supporters are the equivalent of crabgrass," says G.O.P. consultant Frank Luntz. "It's not the grass you want, and it spreads faster than the real stuff. They just like him because he's the most anti-Establishment of all the candidates, the most likely to look at the camera during the debates and say, 'Hey, Washington, f--- you.'"
And Luntz is like something a dog left on the grass. Just in case anyone doesn't know, Luntz is the 'focus group' guy that tried to do a hatchet job on Ron Paul for Fox after the debate.
Check out the YouTube video where there is an excerpt from Penn & Teller about Luntz and what he does.
Luntz fears and loathes people who want to restore the Constitution.
We are not crabgrass, we are a prairie fire!
Yeah, for those who missed
Yeah, for those who missed it-check out this great parody of what happened after the faux news debate with Luntz and his "focus group". I crack-up every time I see it.

I agree with a couple things Frank Puttz said!
His support DOES SPREAD LIKE CRAB GRASS compared to the "normal" grass of the Ghoul, McCain Romney... and it aint the kind of grass Frank Puttz wants spreading!!
So yeah I can agree with Frank puttz
I knew I recognized him!
The writer of this article was Joel Stein! I saw him standing next to Ron Paul when I shook his hand at ISU. Couldn't think of who he was...
They just can't admit it...
Ron Paul attracts more than just college students and fringe voters!
I am just a 46 year old woman, from the south, and I think the US GUBERMENT stinks! We Need RON PAUL to freshen it up!

Hi, For what its worth I found this article which has some merit I think. Has anyone considered this explosive comparison?
Ron Paul Money Bomb on Guy Fawkes Day Wrong Idea?
Thursday, November 01, 2007 - FreeMarketNews.com
FMNN NEWS ANALYSIS/OPINION
Was putting the Ron Paul “Money Bomb” on November 5 the wrong idea? FMNN supports the money bomb and hopes it works well. But because of his anti-war, small government stance, GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul has plenty of enemies. The money bomb has been set for Guy Fawkes Day – the day Fawkes intended to blow up the English parliament.
While the money bomb itself, is likely a brilliant fund-raising idea (and FMNN, as an editorial policy, encourages all who support Ron Paul to contribute on Nov 5) , was it also a good idea to place it on November 5 – with all the attendant ramifications? Some Ron Paul supporters may interpret this question as “nit-picking” or anti-Ron Paul. But this is not the case.
As a free-market news organization, FMNN has covered the Ron Paul campaign from the outset and has explained the details of its support in numerous analyses. But being a proponent of Ron Paul’s free-market vision does not mean that FMNN will avoid focusing on elements of the campaign – and its supporters - that may have negative as well as positive ramifications.
As Ron Paul grows more successful, he will be the focus of increasing attacks. One such is that he has the support of “anarchists,” those who do not believe in leadership by government. Here is an article posted today by the flagship of the American elite, Time Magazine:
=====
The Ron Paul Revolution
Thursday, Nov. 01, 2007 By JOEL STEIN
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1678661-2,00....
There is a subset of Paul supporters who believe 9/11 was an inside job by the U.S. government. And there are anarchists as well: they've picked Nov. 5, Guy Fawkes Day, for a fund-raising drive.
=====
The idea that Ron Paul’s campaign could be conflated with “anarchy” may seem quaint to some, but those who wish to develop rhetoric to counter the campaign are likely serious about the nomenclature. The Austrian free-market economics that Ron Paul backs has a 500 year old history and anyone who understands it knows that it partakes of the mainstream of neo-classical economics, from which all our modern day economics flows.
Nonetheless, there are those who will conflate free-market economics, and its attendant – theoretical - emphasis on the market itself to solve problems with “anarchy.” Nothing could be further from the truth regarding this elegant centuries-old conversation – one that includes Nobel prize winner F.A. Hayek. But it will be tried. It has been before. Here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia:
=====
American history, the First Red Scare took place in the period 1917–1920, and was marked by a widespread fear of anarchism and communism, as well as the effects of radical political agitation in American society. Fueled by anarchist bombings and spurred on by Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, it was characterized by illegal search and seizures, unwarranted arrests and detainments, and deportation of hundreds of suspected communists and anarchists.
http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:eZldGEOJQpAJ:en.wikiped...
=====
The anarchist gambit is likely being trotted out now by those who do not support Ron Paul. Non violence is a key to all successful change and the preservation of civil society as change occurs. As Ron Paul grows more successful, that connection ought to be emphasized. Violence, and even its metaphors, only provide rhetorical harbors for propaganda by those who oppose it.
The money bomb is likely a great idea put together by patriotic Americans. But the Jeffersonian conservative candidacy of Ron Paul is becoming serious business. As calls for fidelity to the American Constitution increase, the concept of non-violence must be emphasized in all ways, even rhetorically.
official campaign and the r3VOLution
"There is a subset of Paul supporters who believe 9/11 was an inside job by the U.S. government. And there are anarchists as well: they've picked Nov. 5, Guy Fawkes Day, for a fund-raising drive."
The official campaign did not organize this money bomb, the people did. How can they help it if the people do something of there own free will? They don't have control over them. This event will generate much attention. Anyone who tries to criticize the campaign because of actions committed by the r3VOLution, will inevitably draw more attention to the event and the official campaign, which in turn will compel more people to find out who Dr Ron Paul is. This can only lead to more r3VOLutionaries.
Yah, maybe the date could have been less controversial, but more than likely, the controversy will help us.

Just finished some TIME artwork and then found this article!
I just finished some artwork that would be a hopeful TIME Cover page and sent it to a few people, and then saw this as the next article!
Here is my Ron Paul web page where you can see the picture:

Feel free to use it as you wish. This would be a much more positive promotion of Ron Paul than that article was. Maybe next year they will have to put something up like this. You all know how the media has told us there is no hope for him, but now they are having to take a different position because us. So maybe this will help.
Your thoughts are welcome.

Well said

Now that people are realizing there is hope for him and he actually has a lot of supporters they are now trying to discredit us by calling us all "nerds" and saying we are all "nuts".
Ron Paul has all supporters.
I am sorry to say but media always makes it out like Ron Paul supporters are always young. I have seen them of all ages. I am 34 and voting for the first time in my life. I have never seen anyone worth voting for. Now for the first time I have a voice that is standing for what I belive.
Learn form Britney Spears ;)
Even bad publicity is PUBLICITY! This may be a super snarky and at times insulting article, but it lists enough positive facts that if I had never heard of Ron Paul I'd surely hop on the internet to find out more about him after reading this article!
Our job is to be as reasonable and sane as possible and to prove wrong the theory that we are all "nuts". Make it your goal to be sincere calm and truthful like Dr. Paul. Make it hard for them to scream "crazy"!
Every time someone calls him "crazy"
I crack a joke about not taking that HYPER-sweet congressional pension. It's almost instinctive at this point. Us fans may be crazy - in fact, I'm certain some of us are -- but Dr. Paul is sane-enough to be unbelievably-principled. Does anyone know if any of the other 435 do this? I never really figured that out, but I know I've asked before (sorry!).
JMR
lawsuit!
I take a lot of offense to this article, being a Ron Paul supporter. How degrading the journalist is, if you can call them that! This article is nothing but slander.... take the TIMES to court over this one!
Why
Lawsuits make lawyers rich. Why not just make fun of where the author's wrong, and say things like "only his proctologist knows" when it seems he's pulled something out of his a$$??? Society is too political and litigious these days. Lawsuits are a first resort, it seems. We need to move towards a more-civil society -- even if via my butt-doctor jokes. My solution was instant, and it cost Ron Paul nothing. Plenty of good material exists. Move on.
JMR
Come on guys!
Wow, according to this piece of crap the guy in the Shark Suit has more credibility than we do.
Thanks MSM.
If they had their way, we'd be lumped in with the Flying Spaghetti Monster people and the group that drank the punch that one time. Loonies and sheep, nothing more.
I think the Founding Fathers would be astounded at what our 'media' has become, and yet I think they would be equally astounded at the level of freedom and connectivity we've all found on the internet.

If you believe in real freedom, you must accept the risks that come
with it, and there are many. The same rights essential for a free
people can and often are abused by a few.
What a bad article.
Why can't they write a positive article ONCE in a while.
It's about to get UGLY
When you read this crapola, put yourself in the position of the establishment propagandist. This little gem was clearly aimed at the traditional base who will be exposed to Ron Paul for the first time in the near future. It is so laden with little tactical jabs and hidden-in-plain view back-hands I can't even get into each one. Of course the requisite anarchist and 911 tags.
These articles are pretty slick, instead of just coming right out and saying "Ron Paul Sucks", they weave in these little memes quite cleverly - If I keep reading these pieces I might wake up on election day and vote for Hillary. It's only going to get worse as Ron Paul's name recognition increases and the message spreads.
An establishment with so much at stake and so much inertia is not going to go gently, they are going down kicking and screaming.
Good lord
Its a hit piece... its the kinda piece they want my grandfather to see so that he is discouraged from even considering a vote for him. This bugs me, but its part of a "cold," "Love" revolution. They have their propaganda and we have are truths. Does anybody on here remember the line from SLC Punk, "After all, you can do a lot more damage from inside the system than you can from outside of it."
Long live the Political R3VOLUTION and many more battles to come.
So....
Since when did Dr. Paul say he does not expect to win??
Only the author's proctologist...
Knows.
JMR
this article is mean but funny
The author of this article attempts to analyze why everyone smarter than him (that's what a 'nerd' is right?) is voting for Ron Paul. It wasn't very nice of him to marginalize so many people though.
was that supposed ...
to be a giggle track. Time was cute with their little jabs at the campaign ...

I have to admit I'm part of the "tin foil hat" crowd, but as William Burroghs (sp?) once said, "sometimes being paranoid is just having all the facts". Do not be discouraged when you see articles like this. Vast corporate powers are trying to control the narrative about Ron Paul. Everyone just keep on doing what you are doing. Representative Tom Tancredo, another long-shot GOP candidate, tells me that after a debate in New Hampshire, one of his staffers walked up to a guy in a shark costume and asked him if he was a Ron Paul supporter. "No. They're all nuts," replied the shark. "I'm just a guy in a shark suit."
HAHAHA, Sorry but thats just too funny.
