On the eve of Battle: A Prayer for Victory (Lisbon Treaty)

Freedom-loving men and women everywhere:

As the Sun sets this evening we in Ireland face at dawn a profound and important choice for the future existence of our country and of Europe and the world.

So ‘in the name of God and of the dead generations from which she receives her old tradition of nationhood’ I put forward an invocation based upon the Pater Noster that we can all join in to invoke the Lord’s Holy Blessing that He may grant us Victory tomorrow:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us upon this day Victory and deliver us from those who would seek tyranny over the people.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen.
