If a yes vote was a vote

If a yes vote was a vote against debating impeachment that means Paul voted against debating impeachment even though most Republicans gave him political cover by voting in favor of it. I'll admit that I'm confused. Why did Paul vote against debating impeachment and vote against his own party?

Yes

.

Those who voted YES

were voting to kill the proposal, by refering it to the Judiciary Committee where they knew it would die. Those voting NO, were voting not to send it to be killed so that the debate over impeaching would actually take place there in the House.

So, voting YES was voting against the proposal (Kucinich himself voted to send it to die instead of the hearings to start in the House).

Most of the Republicans want debate over impeachment to take place, because they think it will hurt the Democracts, by making them look foolish. Most of the Democrats do not want it to take place, which is why most of them voted to kill the proposal by voting YES to refer to the Committee.

If you don't mind...

In your opinion, why did RP vote "Aye"? > http://www.govtrack.us/co... Thanks

What you believe too be true, is true too you...

That's what I'm trying to figure out too

I think we can safely assume he wasn't trying to protect the Democrats from embarrassment.

I know that before, he has said he didn't support impeachment at that point in time but had no problem with investigations to determine if there was grounds for impeachment. So he might have thought there was not enough evidence of Bush lying, etc, so wanted to send the issue to a committee to see if they find any evidence. But, then, of course he knew it would die there. So, I would conjecture that he was simply following proper procedure, regardless of the consequences, i.e. if that IS the proper procedure. I think when looking for Dr. Paul's motivations, the most likely motivation is simply his desire to follow lawful procedure. That's my guess.

Apparently at least some Republicans got the message

George Bush and the NEO-CONs do not represent the American people or our constitution. They are destroying everything that this country stands for and the sooner the Republicans realize it, the better.

If George Bush were molesting children it would be over tomorrow... but apparently killing them and their parents is OK. Those that support Bush, must have a tough time with logic... Keeping their mind straight must keep them very busy.

But lets keep the pressure on...it's time to call those in the Judicial committee and make them aware were going to hold their feet to the fire.

"Kucinich voted with his party, against his own measure."

see...I have a problem with that.

huh?

He didn't vote against his own measure. Where did you get that from? He voted for it.

umm..

i think you're misunderstanding the process???

Why even bother? At the end

Why even bother? At the end of his second term? What's the point? Just more money to waste when it could be spent somewhere else. Wasn't Clintons impeachment deal at the end of his run too? Why do it now?

SO THAT ALL THE TREATIES AND

SO THAT ALL THE TREATIES AND AGREEMENTS HE MADE WILL BE NULL AND VOID. GET HIM ARRESTED, now!! That's why..

Even if Bush were removed

Even if Bush were removed from office it would have no affect on the treaties he made.

Shows you that it was just political grandstanding

on his part.

justcant it seems you didnt get the joke jinc was poking

I seriously see no difference between you and CNN now lol
sorry dude but you made me laugh

Ron Paul

Dr. Paul is just wonderful!

Dr. Paul is just wonderful! I had it in my heart that if there was a vote on impeaching Bush he would vote yes. And the yolks on the Republicans and Democrats that want to attack Iran; I saw a video about talking to Iran and our dear Doc was there! Could any of you imagine what would happen if Dr. Paul were actually able to dialogue with Iran? And before the Convention? If he would succeed, many people might flood the RNC and we'd sway the delegates like nobody's ever seen it and win. If Dr. Paul were the man to talk to Iran and succeeded, and if the sheeple are smart enough to follow the news, we'd have the biggest revolution ever and nobody would be able to believe it. I know, I might be giving myself false hopes but why not? Impeach Bush, forget about attacking Iran... I know some of you might think I'm delusional but what would it take for Dr. Paul to wake the sheeple up in a big way? Something big. And I think talking to Iran could wake up those who've been anti-war before Iraq but just followed the flow of the Neocon agenda. I might be talking BS but the thought of having Dr. Paul be seen as our hero in the sheeple's eyes could change the outcome of things. If Dr. Paul were ever presented the chance to talk directly to Iran, he knows what's at stake and do whatever it takes to follow through with peace. And impeaching Bush would be one of the biggest events in American history!

Show this to the disenfranchised 'left'

This will get RP a lot of respect from them!

Kucinich effort to impeach Bush kicked into limbo

http://www.cnn.com/2008/P...

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An attempt by Rep. Dennis Kucinich to impeach President Bush was kicked into legislative no-man's land by members of his own party Wednesday.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio introduced a resolution to impeach President Bush on Tuesday.

The House voted 251-166 to send the Ohio Democrat's impeachment resolution to committee, a maneuver that allows the Democratic leadership to freeze the measure indefinitely.

The vote largely followed partisan lines, with 225 Democrats voting to punt the measure to committee.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly said she would not support a resolution calling for Bush's impeachment, saying such a move was unlikely to succeed and would be divisive.

All 166 votes in favor of opening up a House impeachment debate came from Republicans, apparently eager to paint Democrats as political creatures in a time of serious issues. Kucinich voted with his party, against his own measure.

Most of the congressman's resolution deals with the Iraq war, contending that the president manufactured a false case for the war, violated U.S. and international law to invade Iraq, failed to provide troops with proper equipment and falsified casualty reports for political purposes.
Don't Miss

Kucinich also charges that Bush has illegally detained without charge both U.S. citizens and "foreign captives," and violated numerous U.S. laws through the use of "signing statements" declaring his intention to do so.

Other articles address global warming, voting rights, Medicare, the response to Hurricane Katrina and failure to comply with congressional subpoenas.

Last year, Kucinich introduced a resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. But the attempt failed in November, when Republicans tried to force a debate on it. Democrats voted to send the resolution to the House Judiciary Committee, where the committee chairman, Rep. John Conyers, has taken no action on it.

An earlier resolution to impeach Cheney has languished in the House Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties since May 2007.

The House of Representatives has voted to impeach two presidents -- Andrew Johnson, in 1868, and Bill Clinton, in 1999 -- but both were acquitted by the Senate and remained in office. No U.S. vice president has been impeached.

Kucinich dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination for president in January to focus on his re-election bid in Ohio. He handily won the Democratic primary in his district March 4 and faces former state Rep. Jim Trakas in the general election.

WTF? Dennis voted against the bill?

I just clicked on the article link and that line is no longer there. Must have been taken out.

Anyways, this article is confusing me. It is implying that a "Nay" was the proper vote in line with impeachment.

Anyone want to comment?

LOL

.

Can we get a list of congressmen that don't vote for this?

Can we get a list of every single congressman that doesn't vote or support impeachment? Anyone that doesn't vote for this should be put on a list and next election make it your life's mission to get them beat by a landslide. Anyone that doesn't vote for impeachment is a traitor to the people, the constitution, and our forefathers.

The Kucinich Privilege Resolution....

I believe that was DK's intent, at least one of them. Its my understanding that by submitting a "Privilege Resolution" it was his way (around) Pelose the power ho... or should I say Pelousy:-) So people gotta get on the record to expose the light.... This is a good site that lists peoples vote history...

Can anybody

Type up a brief statement that we can email to friends and family along with the link asking them to copy and paste into the comment field? It would make it much easier for those that want impeachtment but are to lazy or busy to take the time to write something out.

How many people would it take to actually make an impact on something like this?

Send them a link to DP !

Keep the Heat on the Judiciary Commitee

These hearings must go forward.

Write letters to editor, press your Congressman, etc. We have an army of motivated people. Let's push.

yes, exactly

this is where we need to exert A LOT of pressure.

My Congressmen did not give

My Congressmen did not give a darn, as none of them were there nor voted. I also do not understand Kucinich's vote..was this to impeach or to committe the bill? I do not understand what really went on. How would DK speek for 4 hours and vote against himself..I do not get it..

That is exactly what we need to do..

Below is the contact link for the Judiciary Committee.

I believe you 2 be correct...

We need to put the judiciary in our scope and or under our scope..... Contact like I know you can :-) Regards .....

What you believe too be true, is true too you...

CNN makes it sound like

no one is in favor of it "the vote sends the resolution to commitee, a maneuver that allows Democratic leadership to freeze the measure indefinately". Sounds like pressure is going to be the only thing to work.

Good vote

good timing. Also, recently announced by Robert Wexler "Today Judiciary Chairman John Conyers officially invited McClellan to testify under oath on Friday, June 20th at 10am. Everything is coming together all at once.

BUMP

Well, even if it's going to a 'committee', it still shows Dr. Paul's position on the issue. Where's BillyDee and the other douchbag trolls when you need them????? LOL LOL LOL LOL!!

He must be makin another Colt 45 commercial!

Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?

They will show up to spin it

or try to dampen it.

It just shows that Dr. Paul

supports looking through the evidence to see WHETHER there are grounds for impeachment. That's all this vote is. It's not a vote of people in favor of impeaching. It would be highly negligent of Dr. Paul, or anyone, to vote in support of impeachment without first asking for evidence to be brought forth.
