Kucinich effort to impeach Bush kicked into limbo?
Updated 3:07 a.m. EDT, Wed June 11, 2008: http://www.cnn.com/2008/P...
This article is implying that a "nay" vote is more in line with impeachment?!
Comments on this anyone?

Got this via e-mail the other day...
I got this e-mail from Congressman Wexler on June 10th, so I thought I'd share.
Dear xxxxx
Our effort to hold the Bush/Cheney Administration accountable has taken another dramatic step forward. Last night, Congressman Dennis Kucinich introduced the first Articles of Impeachment ever to be introduced against President Bush. It includes, in total, thirty-five Articles detailing this Administration's blatant abuse of power. Today, I enthusiastically co-sponsored this vitally important bill.
I am grateful for Dennis' leadership on this issue and for the steadfast support that countless Americans have given to both of our efforts to redeem our government and expose the crimes of Bush and Cheney.
I will now expand my efforts to secure impeachment hearings in the Judiciary Committee for these new Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.
Many of the charges against President Bush are well known – and would shock the conscience of everyday Americans if only the national media would be willing to report on these stark facts.
The Articles present a stunning narrative of offenses that have go well beyond previous crimes committed by any US chief executive. In fact no President or Vice President in history has done more to undermine our constitution.
These charges are broad, with 35 separate allegations including the deliberate lies regarding WMDs that led us to war and the approval of illegal wiretapping of American citizens. The Articles also include new allegations of high crimes – including the explicit approval for high Administration officials to violate treaties and US law banning the use of torture.
The Democratic Party gained a majority in the House and Senate due in large part to our promises to end the corruption of the Republican majority and to hold the Administration accountable to the law. This courageous bill is a crucial step towards fulfilling this promise, but – like the Articles against Cheney – they require your support to convince Democrats and open-minded Republicans to support this bold but necessary action.
Time is running out so we must work together to spread the message and apply pressure.
First, please encourage your friends and family members to sign up at WexlerWantsHearings.com – as it will allow us to keep in touch with you and speak to a wider audience. If you haven't yet put in your phone and address, please sign up again, as we will be doing telephone town halls in the near future.
Second, call your representative and urge them to support Impeachment hearings.
Finally, contact newspapers, news stations, and your favorite bloggers and urge them to report on this movement. We need to keep Impeachment a significant news story until the Democratic leadership sees the value in it.
McClellan Agrees to Testify:
I was pleased to inform you yesterday that Judiciary Committee Chairman Conyers met my call to have Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan testify under oath. I am thrilled to inform you that McClellan has agreed to testify on June 20th at 10AM. This will be the first step in what we hope will be ongoing and deepening examinations of the stark evidence and charges against both President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
Thank you for your continued passion and advocacy. Your support means so much to me.
Sincerely,
Congressman Robert Wexler
Don't let this impeachment process die...
Write these people, especially Conyers, and Wexler:
http://judiciary.house.go...
You can go to this site and get links to their websites for contact information, and please write.
It will stay in Limbo too, unless...
WE THE PEOPLE, demand otherwise...We must ALL make an effort to contact our State Representatives, and each of the Judiciary Committee Members to let them know that this Impeachment Resolution must not die, or be shoved under the table. I have taken the time to write each one of them, I have faxed letters to them, or sent them a letter via mail, if you really want something done, step up to the plate and get involved. Here is the Link to all of the Honorable Judiciary Committee Members:
http://judiciary.house.go...
Each one of them have a link to their websites with contacts numbers, and addresses. If we want to make a difference, and see that the Constitution is no longer treated as a G_D damn piece of paper by Bush, get involved and write these people and let them know we mean business.
The more they hear from us, the less likely they are to forget about this matter. Pelosi needs to be written to as well, don't forget her, she may in fact be the problem, but if she wants to stay in office she better start taking her Oath of Office seriously, or she may be next in line for impeachment, oh and by the way there is already a petition to impeach Pelosi out there.
Dont waste your time
Sending proposals to the Judiciary Commitee is the way that they typically use to kill proposals. It was sent there for the PURPOSE of killing it.
The Republicans wants impeachment debated, in order to embarrass the Democrats. The Democrats voted to send it there because they don't want to debate impeachment, for that same reason.
It's confusing because a Yes vote looks like it's voting to start impeachment proceedings. But it's the opposite. If No votes won, then impeachment debates would start there in the House.
From what I have read...
I believe you are wrong...show me please.
Ok...
http://www.boston.com/new...
http://www.theweekdaily.c...
I have researched this via Government websites, and...
This is how they conduct an Impeachment process:
The Steps of Impeachment
The Constitution defines the role of the House and Senate in impeachment.
The House Judiciary Committee conducts the inquiry or investigation into the crimes.
The House Judiciary Committee approves Articles of Impeachment (charges) by a majority vote.
The House of Representative debates each article. If at least one passes with a 50.5% majority vote then the individual is "impeached".
The Senate conducts a trial and can convict with a 2/3 majority of those Senators present.
If convicted then the person is removed from office.
It is possible to skip steps 1 & 2 if a Representative introduces Articles of Impeachment directly. But that resolution would most likely just get referred to the Judiciary for step #1. That is what happened with Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment for impeach Dick Cheney.
Privilege
According to the Jefferson Manual LIII, Section 604, resolutions that call for impeachment, or call for an investigations that suggests impeachment may be an end, are considered "privileged" and must be addressed before other business. More details on privilege here.
Our Job
We need to pressure the House Judiciary Committee to get started. Here is a list of members. Please contact your representative and ask them to get the ball rolling. Once the impeachment process starts, it is important that we continue to support our representatives all the way through.
List of Judiciary Committee Members with website and contact info.

Once again I ask you do not believe what you read from media sources they are bias and want us to let this go.

Have any of you
sent emails, made phone calls, etc to Congress about this matter? I have..and will send some more. Do I have alot of hope that MY (and the majority of the American people's) desires (impeachment) will be achieved? No. I am so fed up with our reps. ignoring what WE THE PEOPLE want. They work for us.
So, since we are advised to get involved in local/state/federal government processes, etc...I have decided to spend some of my energy supporting the "Throw Them All Out" movement. If WE supported financially, emotionally, etc. EVERY (long term) incumbent's opponent, whether Democrat or Republican...if a large number of incumbents lost their seats, that would send a HUGE message...that they work for us, and should vote what their constituents want...
Another thing that I think would really help WE THE PEOPLE is a law making it illegal to accept lobbyist money...I did a little research and found out that lobbying has been around since BEFORE we gained our independence (that really surprised me). IMO, Congress votes for what special interests want since they receive special interests' money...remove the money, remove the "bad" voting..
"Throw the bums out" is as old as politics
Voting out the incumbent is talked about EVERY election. And nothing ever happens. So we lose heart. Never before in the history of the nation have so many people been utterly disgusted with both the pres and the congress- maybe this will be the time it actually happens.
Maybe this will be the time..
maybe pple are just fed up enough to actually instead of talking about it, take some action to do it....one can hope...I will do my part....but, imo, it'd take widespread involvement...
The state Secretaries of
The state Secretaries of State are also partially to blame. They should not be certifying candidates who have violated their oaths of office. In addition, the majority of states voted in term limits by huge margins. The wishes of the people should be honored and term limits enforced. And what about enforcing the 13th Amendment's section about no attorneys being eligible to serve as an elected official?

Not listening
Here's a response from my wonderful(sarcastic) congresswoman on it.
"Thank you for expressing your opinion of President George W. Bush. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns.
As you may know, the United States Constitution sets forth the general principles that control the impeachment process. The power to impeach is vested in the House of Representatives, while the Senate has the power to try impeachments. Impeachment proceedings in the House may proceed if a Member declares a charge of impeachment or introduces a memorial listing of the charges under oath.
A President may be removed from office upon impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. To this date, no Member has initiated impeachment proceedings. This is likely because the President is not under any criminal investigation and has not been charged with a crime.
I respect your views on the Iraq War; however the reasons behind the war in Iraq were fully explored in the 2004 election. The American people chose to return President Bush to office with a historic number of votes cast and clearly decided that the liberation of Iraq was proper."
I thank you for your input on this matter.
Sincerely,
Ginny Brown-Waite
Member of Congress
"The wicked flee when no man pursueth, but the righteous are as bold as a lion."
Alot has surfaced about Iraq since 2004
Sounds like this Congress critter wants the status quo, and really does not care. She would get a no vote from me if I were in her district.
You should send Ginny Brown-Waite,
This >>> it covers 04' & 08'
http://www.brasschecktv.c...
She's probably had that letter sitting in her desk for awhile
What about the offenses AFTER 2004? or the ones committed prior to the 2004 election that have only come to light now that had the American people been aware of would never had re-elected him as a result of?
Nancy Pelousy should be given an ultimatum...
...put impeachment on the table, resign as Speaker or face impeachment herself, for obstruction of justice.

Libera me, let the truth break, what my fears make--Leslie Phillips
YES!
YES!
Herein lies the problem
the system is designed where something as monumental as the subject of the impeachment of the President can be voted on and even with the voting record made public we STILL dont know what the hell these people are for or against.
well, kucinich and paul both
voted aye, and I'm assuming that Kucinich wouldn't vote against the articles he spent five hours reading on Monday in front of Congress.
Voting Aye sends it to the Judicial Branch where I'm assuming they consider the legality and legitimacy of the articles and determine whether to take it to the next level or not. By voting nay, they wouldn't be sending it to the Judiciary, and it would be dead in the water...
or at least that's my interpretation of it.
It's the opposite
It's dead in the water if they vote Yes, because it's going to just sit in "limbo" in the Judiciary Committee and they know that.
No it would have been dead in the water if they voted NO
But at the same time the judiciary committee can kill it also..That is why we need to keep up the pressure on the committee so they don't kill it.
You are working pretty hard at giving out disinformation !!!!!!!
You've got it backwards.
If the No votes would have won, that means they would have voted No to send the proposal off to die in the Judiciary Committee. If the No votes won, that would have meant that the impeachment debates would have been conducted in the House. The majority of Republicans wanted that, in order to embarrass the Democrats, but the majority of Democrats didn't want that. The wanted it to die in the Judiciary Committee.
Look at these news reports:
http://www.washingtonpost...
http://www.voanews.com/en...
True, it's kind of a sticky situation with the
Democrats. If, the Nay's would have won I think the debate would have killed it right off as the Democrats are way to spineless to support this at this point.
Even though the chances of success are poor, I think the Aye vote was the won that at least gives a glimmer of possibility.
forgive me please but
just what would one say to the judiciary comm?
please do consider this or please don't kill this or do the right thing damnit!! etc.
~peace
The Judiciary Committee
wouldn't vote to impeach unless there was enough evidence available so that that trial, that would come after the impeachment, would result in successful conviction.
An impeachment is simply a formal filing of charges.
So I don't think you could say anything that would have much effect if they don't have evidence to prove Bush lied about WMD, etc. If they do have enough evidence to result in a conviction, then I guess you could just request that they act upon the evidence they have and vote to impeach (i.e. to file formal charges against Bush).
perfect JCGE
i am very new at how this works, so a million times thank you for your patience!
~peace
What you would do is ask them to
research the articles of impeachment and not set it aside.
It is important they know the people of United States are watching how they handle this.
but if dr. paul voted yes...
then there must be a reason for doing so. what is it? please help with my obvious confusion-
~peace
My guess
is that he was just doing what he thought was the lawful procedure. Maybe the law says it's supposed to go the Judiciary Committee to decide on. Of course he knew it would die there, but, when looking for Paul's motivations, I think his motivation is usually just to follow the law, regardless of where it leads.
But as Xntryk points out below: it would...
have died immediately if it would have went to debate if the 'no's' would have won.
So, it seems like the 'aye' vote is the path it has to take, even though chances are probably that it will die.
I guess Dr. Paul
will make his reasoning known when he's CNN Friday. Or I hope so.
The thing to do now is to contact the members of the
Judiciary Committee and apply pressure so they don't kill the impeachment articles.
http://judiciary.house.go...
And ignore the trolls on DailyPaul ;o)
thanks again candace-twice in 10 min!LOL
~peace
Right
A Yes vote, is a vote to kill the proposal.
A No vote, is a vote to debate impeachment in the House.
Most Democrats were in favor of killing the proposal by refering it to the Judiciary Committe (where it is known it would die). Most Republicans were in favor of the proceedings taking place. This is because they thought it would make the Democrats look foolish and hurt them.
Kucinich voted against his own proposal by voting Yes to send it to the Judiciary Committee to die. Dr. Paul voted Yes to kill the proposal as well.
That's debatable.....
A no vote would have killed the proposal IMMEDIATELY, as there's no way in the world that the house would have voted FOR continuing it, at this stage.
On the other hand, a yes vote, at least keeps the measure "alive" in committee (albeit most likely moribund). This buys time to change peoples' minds.....
http://groups.yahoo.com/g...
That's a very good obervation
That is very true that it would have died immediately if the 'nays' would have one.
So, the 'aye' vote is the path it has to take.
