It's unfortunate, but as I understand it, most states don't count write in votes. As such, voting for Ron Paul would make as much of a statement as voting for Mickey Mouse. It's not even as good as voting for non-of-the-above if that was an option. Ron Paul repeatedly stresses that the movement is not about him but about the message. This isn't supposed to be "Give me Ron Paul or Give me Death". If your state will count write in votes, then by all means... write him in.
Voting is personal
If someone feels that RP is the candidate that represents their views, then that person SHOULD vote for that candidate. Just because it "won't count" doesn't matter. Who would you have them vote for? Someone who doesn't represent their views (for me, either 2 of the main candidates)? Someone from a 3rd party who won't win either?
It IS a statement when you vote for who you feel represents you best. That statement being that you are THINKING not just floating.
You're right, RP is about the movement, not himself. Fortunately he embodies a lot of the values and practices I WANT in a president. To me, he is the man for the job and I will have the represented come election-day by voting (meaninglessly) for him. Actually, I believe that my vote will be thrown away twice, once as a write-in and once as a mail-in (active duty military).
