or change to Campaign for Liberty Meetups? I have a hard time thinking of letting Ron's name go. I know it's not about Ron Paul but he's what got all this started.
Each group can decide for themselves, and rightly should, of course.
I think the "group consensus" idea is to help facilitate people finding the Meetups. If an interested party is searching for a "Campaign for Liberty"-affiliated group in their area, and their searches result only in, say, "Libertarians for Liberty" or "Springfield for Freedom" or other unique names, they may not realize that those groups are indeed part of or affiliated with the CFL movement. So that's all this discussion is about, I think -- just to find common nomenclature that helps people find us.
I suppose that could be sidestepped, though, by keywords and descriptions; e.g., "Springfield for Freedom" could be the name of the group, and in their description they could say, "We are active in Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty" or some such. That, however, depends on the user searching for such parameters.
Correct on the intent of my question fanofwalt. I just am wondering to be able to steer in a general direction of national groups but if my group wants something different ultimately, so be it. They will however be interested to know what others are doing.
To be perfectly honest, I would like to call ours Ron Paul Revolution meetup. but instead for uniformity, will go with what the majority decides. It really should have his name on it though, because we would never have had the courage to do this without him-so I think it should have his name out of honor for him, and what he has done for us.
I've been a a door-to-door solicitor for Ron Paul campaign for several weeks prior to the California primary. I've been a very interested observer of The Daily Paul for the past many months. I've been an avid fan of Ron Paul's ideas for a many years but I never knew much about the man himself.
I'm so appreciative of all the work that a huge number of individuals have done over the last year to put together videos advertising the campaign and highlighting Ron Paul speeches. Over the past few months, watching the videos put together by so many of you, I've grown to respect a man I've never actually met more than I ever thought possible.
From the man himself, the one thing I've learned that stands head and shoulders above the everything else: In order to stand head and shoulders above everybody else, be humble and let powerful ideas speak for themselves.
In every Ron Paul speech I've heard, ideas are put front and center. His ego is wrapped within the freedom philosophy. That is the most humble and humbling approach I think I've ever heard. It is also the most powerful. Just look at how successfully he has mobilized so many of us.
I believe that he should be honored for all of his work. I believe that a cult of personality would dishonor Ron Paul. I can think of no greater honor than to name the new campaign with the ideas of liberty!
For that to change, you would have to make a new group.... probably want to put it under Local Politics as the main topic, and link it to any 3 of the following:
Ron Paul 2008
Republican Party
Libertarian
Constitution Party
Young Republicans
Conseratives
See, that's why I thought names needed to be changed at the start of a new billing cycle.
Mid-cycle, I guess you can change your name (as in, what name you use to refer to yourselves) but as far as changing the group's official name with Meetup, that actually changes your group in entirety; even the group number. I'm not sure, but I think you'd even need to have your members sign up afresh at that "new" group.
That is: if you cease being [spaces are intentional, as these aren't links] --
The only way to understand absolutely where someone is coming from is whether or not he/she/they voted for Ron Paul in a primary. If not, they are suspect. If an organization endorses anyone besides Ron Paul, they are suspect. Ron Paul is now a defining adjective, not just a proper noun.
How about naming them the Ron Paul grassroots campaign?
"In questions of power...let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." -Thomas Jefferson
At the next billing cycle, which comes up very soon, I'm changing our group's name to reflect the new effort, and will call it "(Area) Campaign for Liberty." Not sure, but I don't think you can change a group's name mid-billing cycle.
I rather suspect most all the "RP for Prez" Meetups will take this course and adopt the "Campaign for Liberty" moniker.
Doesn't that limit your supporters to the Libertarian Party? I thought the Campaign for Liberty was to cross party lines so everyone would feel comfortable.
That's what our group is considering. The one good thing about taking away RP's name is that people will give up their resistance to the "R" after the name
Ron Paul Campaign for Liberty
That's what he called it.
In Honor of Dr Paul
since he is the one who got the Revoution going.
I changed our meetup name to
I changed our meetup name to City Name CFL Meetup.
Just my two worthless, depreciated, devalued cents :P

Why not let each meetup decide for themselves?

Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty...
That's a great name imho.
Yes
Adds credabilety and notariety to the movement. It is a continuation of what he started.
Humbly, I suggest changing the names

Of course!
Changing the names would break all sorts of lines of communication. After November, the name will be a fitting tribute.
Depends on former name
My local meetup is the Greater Chicago Ron Paul Freedom Revolution - -
so I dont think there is a need for us to change :)
Any meetups that say, "(location) Ron Paul 4 president meetup" or something - ya- I would change them.
He calls it the "Ron Paul
He calls it the "Ron Paul Liberty for Campaign"
Er...
Actually, it's "Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty." :)
however...
(sorry, this should be added below, to fanofwalt's reply)
the website will still be:
http://ronpaul.meetup.com... (YOUR GROUP'S NUMBER)

Ron Paul 2008

http: // ronpaul. meetup.com (your group's number)
then you can become
http: // campaignforliberty. meetup.com (new group number)
Do I have this correct now? To be honest, Meetup's own help pages on these topics are less than intuitive.
Oh, and YES, definitely link your Campaign for Liberty group to other like-minded groups and topics!! Exposure, exposure!!
I still dont think you have to wait...
I believe that if you paid your fee, you can run up to 3 different groups....
So, you could still run your Ron Paul group, but then ask the active ones join your new liberty group......
Then, after the conversion, you could delete the RP group....
All while running your Texas Hold em meet up group (or whatever your hobby is)
And yes, the number will more then likely be different. It would be dumb luck if the number happen to be the same.
Yes, now and forever

YES!

fyi
the 'owner' can change it every hour... every minute, if (s)he wants.....
Oh!
Thanks! As Maxwell Smart would say, "I did not know that."
Mine changed names to:
The Winnipeg libertarian meetup (formerly the Ron Paul meetup).
Why Libertarian?
Doesn't that limit your supporters to the Libertarian Party? I thought the Campaign for Liberty was to cross party lines so everyone would feel comfortable.
Lowercase 'l' my friend!
But maybe the word liberty would be superior to libertarian?
I dunno.
Oh
Oh now I get it. It was just libertarian rather than Libertarian. I was a little "confused".... : )
I like the idea
Campaign for Liberty meet-ups would be more accurate.
That's what our group is
