Yahoo News: When McCain Drops Out

My, that would be "yahoo!" news, wouldn't it!

Yahoo is running an opinion article, "When McCain Drops Out".

Pure speculation? Testing the waters? Just one man's opinion? I dunno. But here's a bit from the article:

===

When the Republicans choose their candidate on September 4th, there is a very real chance that they could throw the election into an unexpected chaos as they pull a genuine September Surprise.

I think there is every reason to believe John McCain won't be the nominee. Ok, let me say that again. McCain will not be the Republican candidate in November.

(...)

Here's how it could happen:

At some point in mid August, John McCain will announce that he has decided that he can not accept his party's nomination for president. The reason will be health-related, and that may turn out to be the truth. (...) But excuses or facts hardly matters. He won't be accepting his party's nomination.

(...)

Then, they'll bring out of the woodwork a surprise candidate who can shift the story fast. With just two months before the election -- the new candidate will have little time to be 'vetted' but will be shiny and new, and will get a lot of media attention as Obama's newness will have become -- by then -- tarnished or at least no longer the surprise that it has been as he unseated Hillary.

So, who will be the Republican candidate that faces Obama in the fall?

(...)

Here's a list of names. Some you know, some you don't. But each of them knows their name is in play. Among them --

Condoleezza Rice (Secretary of State)
Colin Powell (fmr Sec. of State)
Marilyn Musgrave (Colorado Congresswoman)
Mitt Romney (fmr Massachusetts Governor)
Mike Huckabee (fmr Governor of Arkansas)
Charlie Crist (Florida Governor)
Tim Pawlenty (Minnesota Governor)
Bobby Jindal (Louisiana Governor)
Mark Sanford: (Governor of South Carolina)
John Thune (Senator from South Dakota)
Dick Lugar (Senator from Indiana)
Chuck Hagel (Senator from Nebraska)
MIchael Bloomberg (NYC Mayor)

(...)

Is this supposition? Sure, but one grounded with enough history and observation to take it beyond conjecture and into the realm of the possible.

===

Well, who knows; perhaps this was the plan all along; perhaps this could be a standing plan being put into place since InSane has been acting and speaking...well, insane; perhaps some other scenario is going on. Or not.

What interests me is The List (which seems as long as the original GOP candidate list). Let's see; they'd be in a last-minute scramble for a Republican Presidential candidate...hmm... one without close identification with Bush... preferably one who has such great popularity, s/he could outshine Obama in popular support... one who speaks a message that touches the hearts, minds, and votes of huge numbers of people...hmmm...

Can you think of anyone they could possibly nominate?

Huffington Post, not Yahoo News

It probably showed up on Yahoo, but Huffington Post (a very liberal publication that is nevertheless still right occasionally) is almost certainly the original source of the commentary.

There is a second one out now that continues the "McCain is too old and will drop out" meme:

This one suggests an equally flawed replacement, but you will have to read it if you care.

Yahoo is very liberal from

Yahoo is very liberal from what I have observed. This doesn't surprise me a bit.

When The Decision Is Made To Pull McCain…

…it will resemble the collapse of WTC Building 7, because all controlled demolitions look alike. We will fare best if we think ahead and are not surprised by any of the maneuvers which they will unfold. Undaunted, we remain undistracted by enticing traps, press on toward our goals and roll with the punches.

This is one reason

I wish Dr. Paul had stayed in the race - McCain might drop out.

They will probably just get George Bush to change his name and run for President again as Abraham Ghandi. Or General John Wayne Bono-Einstein Theresa, his eminence.

What does it take, seriously

for people to hear it said, because it has been said over and over and over, that Dr. Paul's name is still in the race. Only his campaign has shifted out from under the FEC rules. He can still be elected, nothing has changed. Haven't you seen this said over and over??? Why are you not understanding it???

Well

Dr. Paul has ended the campaign for president, also as there is NO primary left to campaign for. Dr. Paul is still in the race with his name, only he does not have any campaign for it, and no other candidate except McCain has such a campaign. So if McCain would drop out, Dr. Paul can and will simply announce the reactivation of his campaign for president formally. The same if McCain does not get the minimum amount of delegates support during the first ballot round at the RNC (should he not drop out).

The RNC will NEVER stand for

The RNC will NEVER stand for a Ron Paul nomination. Only if every state follows Nevada's lead and take control of their state delegate process
can this ever possibly happen.

That said, read my quote.

of course they overlook the only appropriate choice

Big media entities are paid to do exactly that. Professional point-missers. That's why we spent the past year on overpasses. ;-)

If McCain were to drop out

would his "bound" delegates then be freed to vote their conscience or could McCain delegate them to his chosen successor?

marlow

Bound Delegates cannot be sold or traded...

A nominee who drops out can *suggest* who "their" delegates should vote for, but they can't make them do it. That's why some of the "Romney" bound delegates were like "Yeah, right! NO!" when told that they should vote for McCain.

By building up the "Campaign for Liberty", Ron Paul will be in a better position in September if McCain drops out or drops dead. Yes, I believe in miracles.
