Q: What does Ron Paul, John Taylor Gatto, and Linda Goldthorpe have in common?

A: They're all willing to sacrifice, on our behalf, to break the shackles of bondage on the American people.
Ok, I realize many of you haven't heard of John Gatto, and as many of you may not know who Goldthorpe is. Don't let that sway you from finding out. Just over a year ago I didn't know who this guy, Ron Paul, was...never heard of him. Then a friend emailed me about what ABC was doing to posts submitted about Ron in the Reagan Library debate (deleting them).
Since then, I've actually had the chance to speak, one on one, with Ron Paul for a coveted 10 minutes or so; I've had the opportunity to meet and come to know Goldthorpe, who is one of those "congressional candidates" that Ron is talking about helping in the "Campaign for Liberty"; and as of Saturday, I've had the honor of spending an intimate and up-close afternoon with the "Ron Paul" of the U.S. Corporation of Education, John Taylor Gatto.
I've learned much in the last year. And what I learned on Saturday is CRITICAL to the revolution. Just because you can't see a skunk doesn't mean it's not there. And there's a stinkin', ugly, freedom-robbing, liberty-suppressing skunk running rampant through the public institutions called schools, a crucial tool of those who wish to control us, that are teaching many of YOUR kids to resist (or not be able to see) the very principles and precepts we are fighting for. And the skunk didn't get in by accident - it was ushered in under the likes of the Rockefeller's and the Carnegie's of the world long ago.
Ok, so you already knew this. Then get your kids OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS NOW! We have six kids and home school. We knew there was a skunk...we smelled it, even saw it from time to time, and Gatto confirmed our suspicions. Taking your kids out of the influence of this evilness is paramount to the spreading of these revolutionary ideas of freedom and liberty that are being spoken of by Ron Paul. Why do you think he's specifically addressed preparing special material for "HOME SCHOOLERS"?
We don't ever intend on our children into the "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" atmosphere of any publicly funded, drug pushing, dumbing down institution called public school. Please, I know that John Taylor Gatto may be a strange name to you, as Ron Paul's was to me. Go out and buy this man's stuff! Go to his website and educate yourself for your kid's sake and the sake of the revolution.

I met John Taylor Gatto today!
The charter school through which I homeschool had their annual conference today. The keynote speaker was John Taylor Gatto! I got to speak with him a bit before he gave his presentation, and his eyes lit up when I mentioned I'm a Ron Paul supporter. We talked about Ron Paul a bit, we said a prayer together for Carol, and he signed two of his books for me.
He spoke at length of example after example of people who didn't fit the prescribed school mold, yet went on to wild successes in life (Richard Branson, Thomas Edison, the founder of IKEA, the Human Genome Project guys, etc.) to strongly underscore how unnecessary -- in fact, how intrusive and endangering -- the pursuit of a school's prescribed academic schedule is, in place of students developing their own personalized curriculum, following their own interests and paths. Towards the end of the presentation, he pulled the gov't-school mindset together with all the many sheeple issues we discuss here on DP on a daily basis, and spoke with some fervor about how corporate government schooling is nothing more than preparation for harvest of human resources for their own ends -- and I think the crowd of homeschooling moms was listening intently; many were taking copious notes!
After his presentation (fabulous, wonderful), I caught up with him as he was leaving, and got a pic of us together on my cel phone. Sadly, the phone's memory was full (d'oh!) so the pic didn't get stored :( but it was such a pleasure to meet him in person and hear him speak.
One of my favorite moments was when Gatto said that, in his 75 years, and the thousands of mission statements he'd ever read, the mission statement of our charter school was the only one ever worth reading.
It was truly an honor to have him speak to us, and I am grateful to him and the charter school for arranging it.
Save the Children
Of all the issues before Ron Paul, getting government out of the education monopoly offers the greatest long term benifit to the RP revolution
If you want to get an idea of what you are fighting
Go to your state department of education, and look for the "education standards" to see what they are required to teach.
Then realize there are federal standards as well thanks to no child left behind.
Then realize there are countless teachers that are given the job of explaining how everything the teacher does fits some standard listed by the state or the fed. The rest are left teaching to the tests
Finally realize that there are accrediting agencies that have a significant influence over what is contained in teacher education programs, so that teachers all have similar training. These accrediting agencies have significant links to the US DOEd. Google NCATE for instance.
Last realize that professional people are not allowed to teach in a highschool because of licensing. so, lawyers, doctors, scientists, engineers and musicians can not teach public school students.
Home schooling is great and I admire people who do that. Alternatively though, we might look at starting private schools, since not everyone has the time or ability to homeschool their children.

by John Taylor Gatto. What a great thinker he was!

Campaign for Liberty Education Program
The Campaign for Liberty Education Program is directed at home education facilities because there are few places remaining in this country where a historically accurate inculcation of ideas can take place under the auspices of the public bureaucracy. I said you can't get good education in a public school! The teachers are resricted by Union rules and State legislatures from segregating children according to ability and aptitude. Every child is made to fit within the prescribed boundaries of behavior and knowledge. Greater freedom of expression and expansion of thought is available to the children raised in familes that home school. This means, of couse, for those parents who are interested properly raising the next generation of citizens and not the next generation of couch potatoes! The family is the basic building block of our community and our society. Studies indicate that children raised in a religious, two-parent home do better on every positive scale regardless of race or riches. Parents who fail at homeschooling still succeed in keeping their children morally on track and out of prisons, jails, crack houses and red-light districts. If you like being a slave to your job and wish your children to have the same, at least recognize that they will be better off under a moral and benevolent master. Support the expansion of educational opportunities for all children.
