Rand Paul Responds to Mark Skousen
by Rand Paul
My response to Mark Skousen's article in Human Events.
Mark,
Regarding Ron Paul's proposal to eliminate the income tax. Ron Paul stated throughout the campaign that ending the income tax would eliminate about a third of revenue, which could be done if we did the "unthinkable" and adopt the same budget we had in 1997!
With tax receipts down because of the recession, our deficit this year will exceed $600 billion and may approach $750 billion. The world financial markets are fleeing the dollar because we show no signs of changing our ways. Ron Paul is the first candidate to seriously talk about reducing the size and scope of government in our lifetime and deserves more credit from Human Events.
With regard to Russert's interview, Russert was so consumed by gotcha journalism that he wasted time arguing the Civil War with Ron Paul, a subject he has never made a speech on, and never asked one question about the Iraq War. Ron Paul's fame came largely because he was one of a handful of Republicans to oppose the war. Failing to ask about the Iraq War showed that Russert's agenda was more important than the issues of the day.
Was Russert a great interviewer? Sometimes. But in the case of Ron Paul he missed out on covering the current war to play "gotcha" games about the civil war.
Rand Paul
output

that right Rand,
one could tell he sought to back Ron into a corner and Ron just sat calmly looking for the educational possibility of the moment. and Ron had him educated! alright-lol, not a good interview as all had hoped for the gotcha game was particularly obvious
"The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility, and out of self interest -- for himself, his family, and the future of his country -- to resist government abuse of power. He rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state."Ron
Skousen's a fool!
What the hell is up with Mark Skousen? It's funny how a guy like Ron Paul can make self professed "conservatives" come off like raging socialist shills for the State. Pathetic. You know better Mark, your father was a man of far better understanding than you apparently are.
Russert was a scarcely educated man who was good at pulling together quotes from people's past and saying, "GOTCHA!" That's not journalism.
Rand Paul.....
Ron Paul has a younger clone. Spot on, yes Rand Paul is.
I have a question for everyone though. Other than the fact that Ron Paul will be 80? in 2012, why not start campaigning for him for 2012. The oldest wisest president.. Ron Paul 2012!
Bump
IT'S DOABLE
absolutely, SPOT ON!
don't get me wrong, i am NOT trying to speak ill of the dead and my sympathy goes out to the russert family...however, you make VERY valid points and the msm has been NO friend to RP!
the very fact that there is such an "outpouring" of "sadness" from the msm on the loss of one of their own only solidifies the fact that russert "bought into" their agenda hook, line, and sinker and he will be greatly missed...and why wouldn't he be? he was very high profile and toed the cfr/nwo "line"...those kind of guys take a long time to cultivate!
who's next to be "immortalized"...hannity? o'reilly?
i am sorry the man has died, i am sad for his family...i hate the msm lies and corruption!
On the mark
It doesn't take a lot of watching to understand the different levels of treatment candidates get, and Russert was one of many who filed in with that system.
Ron Paul was treated horribly, and that wasn't just the "hard" questions, but a genuine slant to bring up what would be most damaging. Going after Paul's takes on Lincoln and disappointment in the performance of the Reagan years was a wonderful way to disenfranchise the Republican vote. When you have a record like Dr. Paul, there's not much to target. So, if your goal is the "Gotcha!", get the man who speaks the truth to break a Dale Carnegie rule or two and speak bad of others held in high regard (by the average Republican).
This was all largely off topic conversation, not issue based.
skousen is an idiot! as for

2016??? try 2012!!!!!!!!! as
2016??? try 2012!!!!!!!!!
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
well Sierra I tried but all his supporters were saying he wont
he cant do it. since his wife and family wont let him. not only that but he also needs to build name recognition. he cant just run for president. we need to make him the governor of some state or some sort of a senator first. even Barry Goldwater jr. couldnt win his father's seat back from mcAmnesty. so if hes to make any serious run "to win" he needs to have name recognition first. i say gov of montana since Ron Paul is very popular there.
how about Ron Paul for 2012

Ron Paul
Russert did a hit job for the War Companies.
Russert also failed to "get" Ron Paul during that interview, though he rushed on quickly to change the subject and make it seem as if he had his "gotcha" moment. Watching Tim Russert through the years, you know he loved being the "gotcha" guy, he just listened to those above to tell him who to go get..... and that was what was truly sad about Tim -I love my father best -Russert.
In Peace & Liberty,
Treg
Except he never "got"
Except he never "got" anybody, and never discussed important issues -- just the collateral trivia of the political arena. . . . A job, and someone had to do it. Certainly if he'd have tried otherwise he wouldn't have lasted in that role one week. But at some point you have to demonstrate some integrity in your life. He may have done so personally; professionally he was a failure in that regard.
et tu, Skousen??
The acorn fell far from the tree, this time. Sad. Ah well; plenty more where he came from. ;-)

BEAUTIFULLY SAID
:)
Well, in Russert's defense..
The civil war thing had already made news (I believe Bill Maher was the one that brought it up first) and people were wondering about it. I was interested in hearing more about it too, just out of mere curiosity knowing that Dr. Paul would be stimulating on the subject. It depends on whether you think an interviewer should be focusing on what's "important" or on what the public is interested in. I didn't sense any ill-will on Russert's part.

Truth Defense
The "truthers" did not hurt Ron Paul. The main stream media blackout and consequential "character" assassination did that to him. There are other groups that should have hurt O'Bama but MSM brushed those aside. I will try to attend the march as Dr. Paul is a man of courage, true character, fortitude, and steadfastnes. If only the other candidates could match even one of those qualities but alas a puppet just needs a hand up their *ss.
The public is interested in
The public is interested in a debate about the causes of the Civil War with a presidential candidate?
And more importantly, Russert, unlike the fawning manner with which he approached most of his subjects, didn't even let Ron Paul finish the answers to the questions he posed to him. I realize you're not really a Paul supporter, but even many people I know who were neutral towards Russert and watched regularly, and were supporters of one of the other candidates, noticed that Paul was treated differently (and unfairly) by Russert.
I am indeed a Paul supporter
I've been involved in the campaign from the start through donations and campaigning, and had long been an admirer before he started his campaign.
Yes, the public is interested in sensationalistic things. Me too, I admit. I don't know about Paul being treated differently, because I never woke up early enough to watch that show.

did you become a delegate?
did you become a delegate? that is the most important thing any of us could do! if you were not a delgate then in my humble opinion you wern't jack crap!
Divide and Conquer
Division in this movement... with such negative inuendos, could that be what hindered Dr. Paul. Seriously considered being a delegate, but I am a registered INDEPENDENT and refuse to change that. A viable and sustainable third party with a solid platform is needed with a positive message for actual, rather than perceived, change. Peace, Prosperity, and Liberty the RP way.
refuse to change

It's unfortunate that "onemoretime" and others like him REFUSED TO CHANGE.
Talk all you want about supporting RP. Your actions prove you are unwilling to take meaningful action.
Just like I judge JM to be a liberal Democrat in disguise by his track record of liberal votes, I judge "onemoretime" to be all talk and no action by his track record of refusing to participate in the process.
No
I guess I'm not jack crap then. Oh well.

Quit SPAMMING
Bob Barr then. I am a delegate and was on the front lines for Ron Paul. You were not a delegate... enough said.
You heard Dr, Paul He said he was not endorsing Bob Barr.
So Please stop spamming it here. This is not the Daily Barr.
He did not say he was not going to endorse Barr

What a slimy article from Human Events
He doesn't even state Ron Paul's response, he just states plainly Ron Paul didn't have a good response and that Russert exposes Ron Paul's naivete.
Isn't that libel? "In law, defamation (also called vilification, slander, and libel) is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressively stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image."
Because of Mark's inaccurate and purposefully injurious statements isn't this libel?
Does anyone know who funds their (Neo) Conservative Movement since 1944?
Nope, not libel.
It was Skousen's opinion that Paul's response was not good, etc. If Skousen had claimed that Paul beat his wife, or stole govt money, or drives drunk, that would have been libel.
Rand Paul
Rand Paul is certainly in my vision of the future for our country.
