I think RP has made a strategic mistake, - we were gaining support and more Patriots.
It was an odd feeling that crept up on me this morning, as I viewed the forum. Ron Paul says a write in vote is a waste of time.
In my head a little voice said well then there is no point in voting.
That was followed by, why bother?
I think RP has made a strategic mistake. We were fired up and prepared to go to any lengths to get our guy in and we were gaining support and more Patriots.
America loves the underdog and wants them to come from behind.
Now Ron has his movement and I see nothing yet to fire me up.
It’s the same as his campaign site. I rarely went there as there was nothing exciting about it. At Dailypaul there was always excitement. I wonder that in some way RP thinks his site was kicking good and the root of the movement. Well, it wasn’t.
I really need a purpose, some goal or method to measure our success. But there seems to me at least, nothing. There is going to be an election and I have no investment in the outcome. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils and there is now no one I want to vote for.
I wish RP had stuck to his promise stay the course to the convention. I feel a door has been slammed shut. What happens if McInsane says at the last minute he doesn’t want the nomination. What if the GOP leaders say for the sake of the Party they nominate their own boy or girl and McInsane turns his delegates over. Can they do this? Just blow away the whole process.
I hope this odd feeling will go away.

Please stop this
Ron Paul knows what he is doing and what you are saying is counter-productive. Please read the post entiteld "..first off he did not quit!!" WHY RON PAUL MADE THE MOST BRILLIANT MOVE IN POLITICAL HISTORY--" Then get to work and let this post drop. Thank you...everyone was probably a bit disappointed, but he has suspending for good reasons and will still be running and can be nominated, but only if we quit this yak yak about other candidates, and other diluting subjects. Ron Paul has more of a chance of being nominated than any of the "if onlys, maybe, but he is Ron's friends...which are continuously brought up here. If you heard Ron Paul on Glenn Beck last night, you'd know he did not sound like a man who was not running for President. But, first and foremost, is to grow the R3volution... Campaign for Liberty.
IT'S DOABLE
Don't Forget
it has always been about the message....
look around - someone else is running on RP Freedom Message -
we will just have to vote 3rd Party this year - in support of the Constitution.
Also, join www.campaignforliberty.co...
you can be sure there were practical / commonsense reasons for
the timing of his decission.
onward!
Don't not vote. There are
Don't not vote. There are far superior options than to just not vote. If you cannot bring yourself to go with the single voter block contingency. Then write-in NOTA. But whatever you do don't just not vote.
American Patriot Party - http://www.oregonpatriotp...
Voters for none of the above - http://nota.org/
National Ballot Access - http://www.directdemocrac...
first off he did not quit!!!
If you think so, you've been duped like the rest of the MSM.... What he has done is brilliant (to a degree) let me show you some points...
--- fund raising.... he can now raise more money (even from prior maxed out donors..they can now donate more money ..I believe its like $5000 per year)
-- money allotment.... now he can at his discretion donate/campaign for or place ads for anyone he believes can join him in congress or the senate...so lets say that his organization helps 3-5 people get elected this November to the congress...(we just multiplied Ron Paul's voice by 5X!!!-- imagine what we can accomplish now!!!)
--unique campaigning.. he can still do rally s, speaking events, book signings, travel to State Conventions and speak(Romney is, and so is Huckster..), this can still help us the grassroots assist him in getting more delegates to his growing numbers....
---expand his organization...he only had around 60,000 people in his email database during his campaigning for PRES. now in about 4 days he has close to 60,000 already!! With his goal being over 100,000 by September...Lets say he gets like 150,000 or 200,000 people on his email list by September....At that point you could yield so much influence that people will treat him differently.
---Power & Influence....imagine 200,000 people or more in his new organization..calling a group of Senators on a committee to pass some new legislation--emailing, faxing, etc.....NO SINGLE CONGRESSPERSON HAS THAT MUCH POWER IN CONGRESS RIGHT NOW!!! (or 200,000 people chip in 20.00 to elect a new Senator or governor...raising 4 million dollars in 24 hrs!!! NOW THATS SOME POLITICAL POWER!!!
--He can still accept the nomination for the President... while accomplishing all of the above....now who is brilliant, who is not dropping out??? Answer: RON PAUL
BTW....do you know of any politician who has ever made such a brilliant political move as Ron Paul??
PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO ALL MEETUP GROUPS, WEBSITE FORUMS, AND EMAIL LISTS....SPREAD THE WORD...PEOPLE NEED TO BE ILLUMINATED ON THIS TOPIC IMMEDIATELY!!!
Remember5th: I understand!!
And I totally and completely empathize with you. A vote for RP or no vote at all! My rallying cry has been, "I shall demand steak!"
Then yesterday, I experienced an illuminating conversation which I wrote about here. That post explains what happened in the conversation, and why I am now open to forgoing my write-in vote for RP.
Believe me when I say that I expected myself to be the LAST person to consider dropping my write-in vote for Ron Paul. You may want to take a peek at that conversation, and then reconsider how to further your purpose.
things do change
This too will pass. Stay with it for the long-term. I've been a liberty activist for nearly 30 years and people and events come and go. I've loved Dr. Paul for a long time with his voting record and writings. I think his CfL is brilliant for this moment and we've got to get behind it and make sure it is successful. The CfL will not be restricted by campaign law or this election. Let's see what happens with it! This election is not the end of our movement.
Hes been in congress
I agree that he made a mistake getting out. Hes been in congress for the past 8 years fighting for our freedoms but look where we are? In a shit hole. He'll now go back to the house do the same hes been doing and the country will continue to get worse. You have to be at the top to make a change or atleast have a majority of people in the house thinking like you. Which obviously the 400 to 1 votes that happen so often doesnt get him anywhere.
He knows what he is doing.
He knows what he is doing. They are listening to him more now that he is not a "player".
That he actually has something to offer the brainwashed. They will listen now, and they will help force the Republican Party to change it's platform.
Watch and have some faith in the Dr.
Peace.
Write in votes will not be
Write in votes will not be counted UNLESS someone has petitioned to get on the ballot which would be a great deal of work. So it make more sense for people to choose another candidate to get behind. That way the votes will be counted in real numbers as opposed to votes that essentially went to no one.
I still smell a rat in this whole ending his campaign thing
www.dvds4delegates.com the newest and possibly the greatest weapon the Revolution now possesses.
First off it comes very quickly after Alex Jones had that guy on saying they were going to make Paul stop running. Secondly, Ron Paul knows delegates have and are working hard for him at the convention. I just can't help but feel Ron Paul would say "you delegates wasted your time, I am dropping out now." It just does not add up. Ron Paul is definitely not a person who would waste our time or energy, we all know this. Our delegates can still get Ron Paul elected, nothing has changed in that regard. The only difference now is these delegates may have the illusion that they are wasting their time. It could be a major deflator for delegates at the convention. The timing was way off, it just does not fit in my mind. I hope all you delegates will continue doing what youre doing, your chances are as good if he did not end his campaign. The only difference now is you may feel your attempts are now in vain, truly they are not. This is a real attack on our delegates morale, but I hope they will push on. They can still make a difference.
< How can our delegate
<
How can our delegate possible still get him elected? Most states are blocking out delegates to begin with. Beyond that, delegates are committed in the first round of voting and McCain has enough to win in the first round of voting correct?
Yea
But a delegate can decide no to cast a vote i thought. Which if enough committed ones did that he wouldnt have the numbers he needs
Bad Faith
I, for one, would consider that acting in bad faith. And, I think the long term damage to the movement would be significant. Let the corrupt party officials abuse the rules and procedures. I want libertarians to be known as honest and above guile or deceit.
RP is doing the right thing...
...in fact I am very excited. He is staying the course...keep tuned to the big picture. Its not about this election, this is about our future. This campaign will go on big time.
We are the warriors of
the constitution we are the warriors for freedom. Maybe our adversaries will relax after Dr. Paul's announcement then we can go in for a surprise attack.
Think with your head, not
Think with your head, not your heart.
Write-ins are pointless if they do not count them.
Find another candidate that you like. MY money is on chuck Baldwin as to who Ron Paul will endorse.
Do you read Daily Paul
Your post says NO.
He will accept the nomonation
in St Paul if nominated from the floor of the convention. He DOES NOT have to have an active campaign to do that. It is up to us. He has said that many, many times.
the most recent, and I quote from the campaignforliberty website:
"Now what about the Republican Convention in St. Paul? Our delegates will attend, of course, and I expect our contingent to have a visible presence there. Without disruption, we will do whatever we can to influence the party and its platform, and return the GOP to its limited-government roots. This is very important."
Please pay special attention to that last sentence. It was not necessary to include it. We all know how important the national convention is, and how much influence we will have. If we already know that, why did he feel that he needed to say it again? More importantly, why was it the last sentence of the paragraph? All of us know from our high school english class that the last sentence carries with it special weight, a kind of conclusion, or food for thought for later digestion. Dr. Paul is an eloquent, professional writer. He knows when and where to add emphasis. This is, no doubt, carefully planned. Ron Paul felt that it was necessary to reiterate the importance once again.
He knows what he is doing. I am going to St Paul in September.
You are right
To me it is destiny. A historical event in a place called St.Paul of all things.
I'm not sure
I'm not sure that he had a choice. He said it was "regulatory", maybe his projects cannot wait, he needs freedom now. He needs to be able to gain supporters and cash and give it wherever it needs to go. Maybe he needed a statement of support NOW, such as the 50000 people who signed up in three days. Maybe he felt that Baldwin and Barr were being hurt by his presence and he needed the revolution to start thinking toward supporting them more. I'm sure they are all factors.
"The wicked flee when no man pursueth, but the righteous are as bold as a lion."
I agree
He knows it is foolish to put our faith into one leader, anyway. Even when we have a candidate who is wise and trustworthy, like Dr. Paul, it doesn't solve our problems: he isn't perfect, he may not be nominated, if nominated he may not win, if he wins, he still has to fight congress and the rest of D.C.
We have to make our wishes known. By showing up. By voting for someone who represents our principles. If write-ins don't count in your state, then find another candidate.
Let's not give up on him: if you are a delegate or alternate (especially alternates!) go to the convention and fight. I expect turnout to the convention to be low. All RP alternates and delegates must go. That's a great way to stand up for principle.
Show up at the alternate rally if you are not a delegate. That's a great way to show what you want.
This is a movement. That is what RP is leading.
I met Bob Barr and think he is a good alternative for putting out that message (even though he may not win): I think we got to him and completed his education in liberty and that he can defend freedom capably.
I also think Barr waited until the very last moment to run because he was waiting to see how the last couple of primaries went for Ron Paul. I think if Dr. Paul had done better, Barr would not have run. Most of the dozen LP candidates for the nomination were rooting for Dr. Paul.
Any alternative candidate you like better is a good way to show how you feel. (Voting for McCain or Obama won't show anything; that vote is wasted.)
What we want to accomplish is not going to be done in a single election or by a single man. All our strategy must be based on this being a marathon, not a sprint.
I think that's one of the things Dr. Paul is showing us by his actions.
IMissLiberty
RP
is still in the race and will be at the convention, regardless of what is being said.
Anything can happen between now and then.
There is already some talk about McCain not being able to win, and having to step aside. If the popularity is still there for RP, he will have to be considered.
Yes, I know the system is corrupt, but no race is over till the finish line is crossed.
Work it thru to the end.
Contingency plans for later efforts are fine too, because this job ain't over after the Presidential race.
This is just the beginning.
That's why I'm so aghast at the feelings that I read on here about the "need for closure", or flailing for a 3rd Party candidate.
There is no "magic bullet". You don't get a President into power without ground level support.
We have to take over the political system, and that's a helluva lot of work that we have not done yet, or even came close to it.
Roll up your sleeves, because there's years of work to do yet. We've just only started to break the ground, and there's 40 acres left to plow.
I disagree
Ron Paul will be in St. Paul. Will you be there? We should all make an effort to go to the first convention to resurrect this country. Ron Paul is still encouraging delegates to change the party platform and for local people to get active in politics. The bottom line is Ron Paul will be at the only convention that matters in America, the only convention for America and for Americans. If you're a delegate you have a chance to vote your opposition to all the RINO's we have in politics today. 50,000 patriots signed up in 2 days means the r3volution is far from making major mistakes.
Many of us feel the same
I will still vote RP. There are so many variables that could play out. McCain may not even survive till the convention. He really looks bad these days. We may need a miracle, but I believe miracles do happen. Work and PRAY.
Becoming a delegate is our focus.
Ron Paul was right to suspend his campaign officially. This draws down the guard of the Neo-cons. Become a delegate.
Think about
the story of the tortiose and the hair. The hair goes bouncing around thinking he has the race won. Tires himself out. (easy for old man Mccain to do, he is not too bright) The tortiose wisely keeps a steady pace seeming not to be a threat to the hair. Who won? Remember he "suspended" his campaign. He did not drop out totaly. Who knows......Without being in the presidential race it may actually be easier to get the message out.
I was
thinking pretty much the same thing just this morning, too.
Ron Paul repeatedly gave his word that he would stay in until the money ran out. Instead he takes the remaining money and sets up a campaign for other candidates. I gave my money to a specific candidate for his campaign. I don't appreciate that money being used for anyone else. I'm capable of picking my own candidates and donating the amount of money I want them to have. My biggest problem with Ron Paul has been the people he picks to help him so I'm a little wary of just giving money to an organization that is going to dole out money to whoever they want when I can donate directly to those same people if I choose.
And yes, I don't know who to vote for anymore, either.
I live in a write-in state so I will probably still write-in Paul but I'm not positive anymore.
He has campaigned through the entire campaign period
He went through to the very last primary.
He has always said he was running for the Republican nomination. His chance to earn that by traditional campaigning has run out.
What more do you want him to do?
He has never said he would run as a third party candidate, so that is off the table. He finished the race with 1.2 million of us getting him past the finish line in fine form.
What would you prefer he do with the $4.7 million? He's spending a bunch of that on his Shadow Convention in St. Paul. I am sure renting that arena and managing that huge event will not be cheap. That is a campaign event, that occurs "right up to" and concurrent with the Republican convention.
He
should have spent the money campaigning. During the campaign plenty of people questioned why he wasn't. His supporters are scraping together money for commercials like High Tide while he sat on the 4.7 million dollars. I gave him money to spend on his Presidential campaign. If he intended to squirrel it away for after he should have told us.
Hon, read the Can We Still Vote
for Ron Paul in St. Paul topic...hope that helps...
It is our movement
Ron Paul was the person that pulled us together. It isnt about him,it is about the future of our country.
I feel your pain. I look at the RP 2008 sign in my yard and cannot bring myself to take down yet. We must move on and we should not expect RP to do this for us. He is the best icon we can hold up for the movement at this point in time but if we do not ready ourselves to be the next ones to step up all is lost and it has nothing to do with what RP does or does not do.
It is, as has always been the case, up to us.
It will get better and we need every patriot to finish what RP has helped us start.

Liberty = Responsibility
So funny..I saw a car
So funny..I saw a car yesterday with TWO 2004 bumper stickers for some candidate (started with a P...) whose name I had never heard, and never knew was running,
I felt the same way as the one who started this thread. I really felt "let down" by RP as he had promised to stay campaigning until the convention. However, as sad (and still mad ) as I am, I see why he did this and it was quite brilliant. RP NEVER anticipated such tactics by the MSM, but it really got to him when the shenanigans started in his own party. I think his treatment at the GOP conventions shocked him and now he knew he had no chance. When he got his book out, I breathed a sigh of relief, because no matter if something "happened" to him, the book was out. His ideals and plan was public. He has done the same, now, with CFL. He wanted us to stay together and do something as a group, since he could see the writing on the wall about his election. (Oh, yeah, we can STILL possibly educate the Huck delegates to vote for him the second round, but his winning is doubtful). Also, there were a bunch of FEC restrictions on the presidential campaign, that he got out of when it was suspended. I think the site should have TONS of news and all sorts of things, but it does not. RP is gathering forces now. That is our job now, just to gather people together, and look forward with excitement to our big party in St. Paul, where we should have billboards, a huge crowd and MSM press. It will be a "protest" of sorts and our numbers will be shown. As well as in Stugis, and at the March and all the other planned occurrences. This is to let the "elite" know they have not stopped US by stopping him. They can not stop a revolution whose time has come! We are growing, planning, and will take our country back. This will make our events even bigger. This CFL shows we are here to stay. AND watching "them", and fighting them. It was a grand strategic move. I am still upset, but got to get over it. There is so much for us to do, as a group, as much as we may not like "groups". :)
Peroutka for President
Michael Anthony Peroutka was the 2004 Constitution Party nominee for president. Chuck Baldwin was his Vice-Presidential candidate.
He knew
What he was up against with the neocons. That was part of the wake up call. He needed to show us just how out of control the party is so we would get up and fight. Even people who were not his supporters got a good eye opener on that. I had people come up to me at the state convention and talk about how badly he was treated and how crooked things are even on the local level. Delegates (not just Ron Paul delegates) wanting to know why they even came when it seemed that the Chairman and committees had already decided the outcome. The constitution is not the only thing being ignored. Roberts rules of order meant nothing either.

re: I think the site should have TONS of news and all sorts of things, but it does not. RP is gathering forces now.
From the looks of it, the Campaign for Liberty site was quickly slapped together. It does say it's Beta, after all.
I also feel the GOP's corrupt shenanigans forced his hand to take a sudden dramatic shift (although I'm sure the idea had been simmering in his oh-so- brilliant brain)
I think Campaign for Liberty
I think Campaign for Liberty was brilliant. It will make history!
