Hate to be a wet blanket
I hate to be a wet blanket, but most public libraries sell donated books rather than putting them on the shelf. I found this out when I tried to donate a book to my local public library.
When I offered the book, the librarian said "If we don't already have the book in our collection, we will probably just give the book to the Friends of the Library to sell".
Me: "Did you say that you will sell the book if you DON'T already have a copy but if you DO have a copy you will put the second copy on the shelf?"
Librarian: "Correct. Because it is a lot of work to create a new card catalog entry for a book we don't have but is easy if we already have a copy."
My life-long respect and love for libraries was shot down. Bunch of lazy government workers.
So good luck getting it on the shelf
Hence why I believe that
Hence why I believe that personal phone conversations are the best way to actually get the books on the shelves. I believe that when the package comes in that the librarian will have a little personal attachment to the book because shes spoken words with me on the phone.
The RevolutionByMail.com project will have libraries setup
We will actually be setting this up among other "locations" once this election is over. The only thing we need to make sure of is that the books are actually getting inputted into the systems instead of tossed in their "book sale" pile.
If we get our system setup before you get things going then maybe we can help you with the effort itself.

It sounds like a good idea
It sounds like a good idea to me. Do you have a plan on exactly how you might carry this out?
The plan.
1. Contact all Librarys.
All contact information is easily accessible over the internet. I plan on gaining a rapport with one librarian at each location of which I can document on paper from telephone conversations. By adding a little personality i'm sure that they will be more inclined to cooperate with me.
2. Bulk order the book.
Once I've raised enough money(plus my own) to cover the cost all of the targeted librarys I will purchase a bulk order of the book at the lowest price I can find.
3. Using my money and that of other I will then ship the books to the librarys, having a personal relationship with each librarian will make things a lot easier.
4. Lastly, I will call to make sure that each library has the book on the shelf. being that I was on the phone as opposed to email i'm sure the librarians will take extra measure to make sure they are cirulated.
As an added bonus while on the phone with each librarian I will be able to tell them about ron paul and try to convert them to the cause. Librarians are powerful tools in the defense of freedom as they can recommend books to others as well as place other freedom-oriented books on the shelves of their libraries.
bump.
no one?
I propose a different strategy...
The public library system (government run) in my city allows you to request books for them to purchase. If there is a book that I want them to carry I bombard them with requests.
The more requests the more copies they tend to purchase.
interesting.
how does one go about this?
any other information on this?
yep
just call them up and request it. if they don't have it... ask if they would purchase it.
My library system
has a spot on their website where one can places suggestion for purchase requests.
If there's a book I want, I'll just make a bunch of requests using different people's names that I know.
