No Merger Between the Libertarian and Constitution Parties is Needed.

I do not see any hope of the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Parties merging, even though the Libertarian Party has become more conservative in recent years.

The Libertarian Party is now a party of wavering principles that is dominated by 'Republicans Who Want To Smoke Pot', and to gamble, encourage gay rights, pornography, encourage open borders, abortion, and who now apparently want a National Sales Tax instead of a Progressive Income Tax. The most daring deconstruction of the fedgov to come out of a LP panel discussion with Barr and the frontrunners, at the May convention was the idea of abolishing the Department of Education.

The Constitution Party is a party of strong principles that has a Bible and Bill of Rights agenda, does not put libertine social issues on the front burners, and represents a party of Washington outsiders who follow Ron Paul's example of issues like abolishing Federal agencies, the Income Tax, the Federal Reserve, supporting the Sanctity of Life Amendment, and so on.

People who follow Barr will be those who are most likely to subscribe to the liberal interpretation of the "wall of separation between Chuch and State", and who care vitally enough about porn and social titillations to play footsie with the Police State and the neo-cons. For example, former (?) Daily Paul poster "BillyDee" took his screenname from an actor in pornographic movies.

Personally I don't like the CP's platform on porn and social titillations, but I recognize that they take the stronger position on the rest of the Constitution.

I don't feel we need any Third Party merger, do you? The Ron Paul movement will choose the better of the two Third Parties.

Sure, no need to merge

Especially if a politician like Ron Paul can arrise and bring us all together.

The R3VOLution seems to be a merger between:\
1) Libertarians
2) Old Right Conservatives
3) Constitutionalists
4) John Birtch Society, Alex Jones, 9/11, NAU Conspiracists
5) A few die hard Peace Movement Activists
6) The anti-war young who are busy, just learning from all of the above.

The question will be, who in 2012 can pull away all the young anti-war Obama crowd who are not satisfied with the change they recieved? It will be the R3VOLution's great credit for pull away these large numbers to our side that will put a Revolution President in office come 2012

States Rights Issues

I think it will be necessary to amend the constitution, to provide that all civil liberties such as gambling, prostituion, porn, drugs, should be universal rights in a truly FREE country, and shall not be restricted by any state. Abortion is a differen't issue because with abortion another life is involved and should be able to be reviewed in any court. At the same time a state shouldn't be able to force a rape or incest victim to have a child that they had no decision in creating. Most would agree on that. Personal vices or chosen entertainment is none of any government, local or states business. I would love to gamble on football games online here in Oregon but my state does not allow it. That's bullshit! If you want to have a country that is split up into moral zones you will have no country at all. Why even have the states connected? I wouldn't want Chuck Baldwin imposing drug embargoes and putting retaliatory sanctions on countries in my name. The War on Drugs creates more harm than the drugs themselves. Sanctions on who? Rebels in the jungle? It makes no sense! Embargoes on who? The CP wants to impose moral fascism by the majority onto the residents of many states. Do not ever call that Freedom! Let God judge people and mind your own business. As for the so-called libertarians Barr/Root, I don't believe they are sincere because of their voting history and writings. It all comes down to this. If you want to live in a moral judgement zone, then start a new country where the gov can watch your every move and spy in your bedroom. That is a real nanny state mentality. FREEDOM IS FOR ALL CITIZENS, gamblers, prostitutes, stoners, Christians, homosexuals, porn stars, Jews, Muslims, atheists, Nazis, even satanists! Why do you think we let skinheads march in our cities? You have to protect your enemies liberty to secure your own from oppression. How would the Christians living in a certain state feel if the majority of that states population decided Christianity was a cult and should be banned! Not such a good idea now huh?

Kevin

Nope, I do not think you can force the Ron Paul movement to choose between two third parties. It is obvious what your choice is, but the problem is the CP does not even have 48050 state ballot access. They will not be in Texas etc. If you study Dr Paul's platform closely, neither the CP nor the LP reflect his completely. The CP is more for economic protectionism/nationalism, like Democrats, while Dr. paul is more for true free trade, like the LP and he has no China bashing rhetoric. It is in any case very inaccurate and outdated to talk about "Red CHina", only in name:Chinese are very hard working and dedicated and there are many churches etc. and in a certain sense communist in name only.
The CP is perhaps more like Pat Buchnan, who is for a ban on online gambling etc, while Dr. Paul not. This does not mean Dr. Paul promotes gambling.

You also have to realize there there are very different positions within the LP. They do have quite a tradition of pro-life people also, Barr is not the only one.
On taxes there are different models also. Dr. Paul is consequent and against a federal ban on prostitution, leaving it to the states. He said himself if he would run for governor of a state, he may be for the banning of prostitution (states rights) in that state, the same with pro-life, the drug issue etc. He is much stronger for the legalization of medical marjuana than either Barr or Baldwin. He is a doctor and knows how much some terminal sick people with cronic pain need that, and this means for all states.

The Ron Paul movement should unify in the Campaign for Liberty. About third parties one has to see how the LP and CP fare in November. It would IMHO be imprudent for Dr. Paul to officially endorse either Barr or Baldwin, also as we are looking at reforming the GOP, that means get the conservative, constitutionalists and libertarians within the GOP and elsewhere on board, e.g. those that may vote for either McCain or Obama as they think he is the lesser of those evils, that are holding their noses to vote for them.

Prostitution

I doubt Dr. Paul said that he might ban prostitution if he were an official at the state level. That would go against his basic libertarianism. You have to be mistaken. I did hear one of his campaign officials say that though on a telephone call from a reporter when it hit the news that the prostitutes at the Bunny Ranch were endorsing him, but I'm confident the spokesman misrepresented him.

Well,

he may leave it to the states to decide. Yes, I heard the same. He would in any case outlaw drug usage or prostitution for children, which he should.

Nope, no merger. Still

Nope, no merger.

Still though Paul has done something no other has done before and that is made both these parties forget about their differences long enough to back Paul.

That "thing" needs to be captured and harnessed. I think the way to do it is threw the grassroots creation of completely Ron Paul inspired local state parties.

I'm using the platforms of these other parties to create a new platform for my "Bull Whip Project". Which I hope can become a state party. Like the CP without the theocracy and the LP with right to life and better tax solutions.

Barr handles the drug issue very well

in this video interview: http://reason.com/blog/sh...

He doesn't sound like a libertarian who wants the government out of regulating drugs because he wants to use them. He's very conservative on the issue, saying it just fits into the overall idea that government shouldn't be telling you what to do.

Dr. Paul said he would vote for National Sales Tax (Fair Tax)

He says so here: http://www.youtube.com/wa...

Barr and Paul's positions are not materially different.

Here's Barr: "Cutting spending would allow America to implement real tax reform. Our goal should be to reduce both the tax burden on Americans and the intrusion in their lives resulting from IRS enforcement of the income tax. One of the best approaches would be to adopt some form of a consumption tax, like a national sales tax, replacing the Internal Revenue Service and all federal income taxes as well as payroll taxes. It is not enough to eliminate the income tax. We also must repeal the 16th amendment, which authorizes Congress to levy an income tax. Without doing so, there would be an ever-present danger that a future Congress would attempt to bring back the income tax on top of the Fair Tax or any other alternative to the income tax." http://www.bobbarr2008.co...

Here's Paul: “A pure consumption tax like the Fair Tax would be better than the current system only if we truly did away with the income tax by repealing the 16th amendment. Otherwise, we could end up with both the income tax and a national sales tax. A consumption tax also provides more transparency and less complexity. But the real issue is total spending by government, not tax reform." http://www.house.gov/paul...

'Good appraisal

That's pretty much how I perceive differences in the two parties... I've noticed that a great number of Libertarians claim to be atheists (also stated in a previous post by a DP libertarian)...This is their personal right of course. However, it also sheds more light on the overall philosophy and the agenda of that particular party.

atheists

Atheists like the LP because they do not try to cram religion down their throat. The Christians in the LP are like Ron Paul and do not push it in everyones face. Unfortunately the Atheists are more evangelical about their lack of faith and it gives the illusion that Libertarians are a bunch of godless selfish people who do not want to pay taxes on their pot. The fact is that it is a diverse a bunch of people as you will find in any party but they love freedom.

There's no way

the Constitution Party would even consider merging with the Libertarian Party, thank goodness!
