Stopping Google
With one company now the world's chief gateway to information, some critics are hatching ways to fight its influence
"To counter its pervasive effects, they are developing strategies to push back against Google, dilute its growing dominance of the information sphere, and make it more publicly accountable. The solutions range from programs one can install on one's computer to proposed laws forcing Google to reveal parts of its proprietary search algorithm. A few experts and privacy activists are pushing for public funding for alternative search technologies, and one legal scholar wants to give individuals and companies a "right of reply" when searches bring up sites that slander them or appropriate their intellectual property.
"Google knows more and more about us, but right now there's almost nothing we can do to find out exactly what it does with that information," says Frank Pasquale, an associate professor of law at Seton Hall and one of the leading proponents of reining in Google. "We want to make powerful entities on the Internet accountable"

Well,
Well, of course there should be no google bashing, in my opinion, too.
But since at least I used to use google for information and didn´t challenge the correctness, for instance, of search results to words I asked for, I think you have to look at google thoroughly. What, if they would delete all results which contain the name "Ron Paul"?
You would think it is true, that there is no information in the internet about Ron Paul. Mr. Schmidt was at the strange Bilderberg meeting in 2008.
He could control the disposal of information which he has as CEO at google, to implement the ideology of the former secret Bilderberg people.
I was so naive to believe in the correctness of the information offer at www.google.com.;-)
It´s just that you have to BE AWARE of which information you get and if there is some sort of negative ideology behind this.
Google in bed with CIA (article)
Steele raised eyebrows when he confirmed from his contacts within the CIA and Google that Google was working in tandem with “the agency,” a claim made especially volatile by the fact that Google was recently caught censoring Alex Jones’ Terror Storm and has targeted other websites for blackout in the past.
“I think that Google has made a very important strategic mistake in dealing with the secret elements of the U.S. government - that is a huge mistake and I’m hoping they’ll work their way out of it and basically cut that relationship off,” said the ex-CIA man.
“Google was a little hypocritical when they were refusing to honor a Department of Justice request for information because they were heavily in bed with the Central Intelligence Agency, the office of research and development,” said Steele.
Steele called for more scrutiny to be placed on Google if it continues to engage in nefarious practices, saying, “If Google is indeed starting to do harm then I think it’s important that be documented and publicized.”

Using google for our advantage
Remember the blimp? "Google Ron Paul" was one of the most effective campaign messages ever because we could use the power of Google to spread the word about Ron Paul.
Other campaigns are now trying the same Google tactics they learned from the RP campaign.
We were the first to harness Google for our advantage in spreading the truth about a candidate.
I see google, facebook, and
I see google, facebook, and myspace merging soon. They will then eventually be a new department of the Federal government, and then the world government, called something like The Department of Citizen Control.
Through it they will be able to track everything we buy and sell, everyone we know, a good deal of what we discuss with those we know, what our tastes and preferences are, etc. The internet is eventually going to be used as a tool against us.
Information is power. Be careful not to give them anymore than they need.
"There's somethin' happenin' here..."
Oh please
Stop with the google bashing.
How many of you clowns have watched Dr. Paul youtube videos? How many people have been swayed through the use of Youtube videos? How much information is shared daily by youtube to the masses?
This, "google is trying to achieve world domination through information control" is an absurdity. If so, every entrepreneur in the world is trying to achieve domination through some sort of control. Google, like everyone else, is trying to make money.
Fortunately, they try and do it by invention and achievement, as opposed to government grant and sleeping with politicians. Google produces some of THE best software on the net for getting things done. They're on top of some of THE best ideas out there. What do they charge you? They sell what you're interested in to advertisers who are looking to show you other products you may be interested in.
Do they save what you search for? I'm sure they do. Do they do it so they can turn you into the net for being a bad person? Absolutely not.
They do it, to make a profit. Just like anyone else.
Want to fight Google's influence? Go use MSN, Lycos, Dogpile, or Yahoo. How about you create your own search engine? Google is only making billions BECAUSE it is so efficient. No one FORCES you to go to Google, you go there because it's the best.

Google sleeps with politicians (globally)
>Fortunately, they try and do it by invention and achievement, as opposed to government grant and sleeping with politicians.
LOL
They also use intimidation to influence Government and politicians.

Google also has a small army of spin-meisters actively controlling the "conversation" on message boards.
Don't regulate the internet
Keep government out of this. Let the market work.

Check out Scroogle.ORG
Scroogle.ORG is a nonprofit entity surviving on OUR donations, providing us with private access to Google's search algorithms. Check out their website, you can also search through Yahoo's algorithm. No ads, no searches saved.
Peace,

ok

just so everybody knows, if you visit this website, go to scroogle.org and NOT scroogle.com, which is a porn site (i just made this mistake)
You have to remember
JM
that all the internet activity is being monitored by the US Gov., and most probably share this info. with other Nations. The resent FISA bill to give the major phone companys immunity from prosicution most likely will become law, and the monitoring will continue. Google is just another source of info. for all this monitoring. Yes, all your internet is well doccumented by our Gov.
The Government collects their data from Google
Don't be so naive JM. The government collects its intel from private sources.
Google is an arm of the elite.
I disagree

Google and youtube provide a means for info access that is outside of the government's control. If google was a tool then why did they refuse to turn over their records when subpoenad by the government?
That was a PR ploy
The gov't already had the data via AOL (googles search partner).
From Googles Privacy policy:

"If google was a tool then
"If google was a tool then why did they refuse to turn over their records when subpoenad by the government?"
Boy thats a trusting statement. Google trades on wallstreet dont they? If they let the public know they would turn over their info then what would you do with the stock you owned with them-sell!
It would be the same as someone turning over yur health records-which despite laws happens all the time with insurance companies.

it is naive to be too trusting of any large corporation but at the same time, it is unfair to assume a company is dishonest and evil just because it is large and powerful.
Word of Mouth - Education
Google became a phenomena via word of mouth.
They used a lot of PR to get the masses to believe they are some cutesy bunch of geeks running a cutesy company. A very well crafted image that belies its nefarious character (world domination through information control). They actively intimidate governments and politicians and Eric Schmidt is an elitist extraordinaire .
If you value your privacy and intellectual property rights, you would be well served to do some in-depth research on google and then educate others.
You will have to go beyond the MSM fluff pieces.
There's a ton of search
There's a ton of search engines out there. Don't like Google? Use another one. The last thing we need is one more government program designed to "protect us." How's that been working out for us?
www.paulforronpaul.com
Exactly
For example, MSN Live Search.
The reason Google is so popular is because it apparently it's providing highest quality searches. No one is forcing anyone to use Google.

Do Not Sign In
They will not track all of that if you do not sign up and sign in. You will stay signed in unless you sign out.
I am not 100%. They do not store info about searches for anyone who goes there do they? If so I will never go there again.
they do
Fortune Favors the Bold
but when the government tried to subpoena their records they refused and won. I am not too worried personally about google having my search info and i certainly don't want the government trying to stop them.
I would be
say your in school and have to do some research on such topics as murder, murder for hire, criminal minded people, or child molestation or you are interested in something and search keywords that are broad and general, well they have a full directory of your searches and if I am not mistaken the terrorism act recently passed allows for "them" to come into your house and seize your computer. How many of you think any of your general searches could be interpreted as suspicous or potentially incriminating?
"There is but one special interest that we should be working for, and that would solve just about all of our problems, and that is our liberty."Ron Paul
Google is a propenent of "Net Neutrality"
With that said, I am infinitely more concerned about the idea of having the government interject itself between myself and my ISP for the purpose of "protecting" me from abuse.
If my ISP gives me crappy service (like Bell was) then I can move to a better ISP (MSI) and punish them myself.
If my ISP really mistreats me, then perhaps I can sue them, or if it is extremely bad, then maybe I can have some charges laid.
That's how it should work anyway, but in any event, big government would rather just take control of the industry from the get go, so that it can just leech as much money and power from all of us as it eventually can.
Also, we are all seeing how big government is behaving about the FISA bill, so the real question is, why on Earth would we want to rely on these criminals to manage the internet for us?
Google as a private company is a controlled beast.
Google in bed with the government is unleashed tyranny.
I agree completely
