***POLITICALLY CORRECT** A VERY REAL BATTLE by Moonslippers
What is politcally correct to you and where do you think it came from? What do you think it has done to America? Do you think it should be fought against?
I am just curious at the way it is viewed today versus in the 80's-90's when it was on the rise and highly pushed in our public schools. I view it as the first line of attack to dumb down America and place everyone suspect of their intentions. Corporate America and the MSM birthed it in my opinion.
Here are some things I am reading today:

For instance. Brown vs. Board of Education forcing ethnic integration in schools. Seems resonable, right? Seems popular especially now, right?
Wrong. It was unconstitutional and ended up dividing people more.
Although it might be unpopular to speak of such things like that or amnesty and so forth. The fact is, they are real issues. PCness is just a ploy for you to go along with the status quo. Or at least what the federal government deems as the status quo. Just because its popular or PC doesnt make it right or constitutional.
A lie is a lie is a lie
and "politically correct" was permission to lie.
There is even a politically correct among Paul supporters.
That's something we need to watch out for.

I encourage all of us to check out our belief systems and test how inclined we are to be "politically correct" it might shock you!
It is too often misconstrued as fairness.

"Ideas have consequences." Ron Paul
I believe
it to be a very intentional, devious, and subtle attack on freedom of speech - which is of course a precursor to "hate speech". People should, as a matter of social manners, speak with ethical and moral respect for others...however, the Constitution guarantees the freedom for one to be a verbal nitwit if one so chooses.
it might have started out with good intentions
Fortune Favors the Bold
historicallly, for example the common terms used to refer to black people changed every ten years or so and the previous terms were seen as offensive (my grandmother still uses the term "colored people") it may have begun with a way for people to not be unintentionally offensive. Of course, things like this take on a life of their own, and soon delve into the realm of silliness and stupidity.
Americans
Why can't all Americans just be "Americans?"
For example, if you are an American of African decent, why would the government refer to you as an African-American? Even placing African before American?
It seems like the only thing this really accomplishes is to divide us; deceptively.
I'm not convinced that Our
I'm not convinced that Our Government is the one responsible for the "African American" title.
Blacks don't know who they are, they've gone through a multitude of titles, their still trying to find themselves and have settled on the title of "African American", they seem to be comfortable with this title though.
But, I believe that they really don't consider themselves "Americans"! Some know that they don't belong here, ones within their own race, they don't consider these United States to be their "Nation" or "Country".
African Americans (cough) have a "campaign" against America and temporarily have joined forces with the Hispanics to accomplish their goal. Seems silly maybe, nonetheless, its true. No, their not going to confess to it, either a person knows or they don't.
Yeah I know, argument time, you mean that I'm not "Politically Correct". Go figure, I'd rather be correct actually!
So being "Politically Correct" is actually being "incorrect. H'mmm, that would be fairly accurate (I'm using the phrase, "fairly accurate" only to show humility, humble people are better listeners and they also learn more).
M'mmm h'mmm, this could be or have been written better but, "time is short".

no arguement from me
but I am amazed at my own inclination to present a more politically correct response and edit your comment. WOW. for instance when I see something like "Blacks don't know who they are", I want to respond with, are you Black and on what basis do you make that statement or that sounds like a generalization to me. and when I read "But, I believe that they really don't consider themselves "Americans"! I say, thats not fair to make that assumption-not being black myself and thinking it a fair response. I automatically, through my 1980's southern influenced education, want to soften or change the comment to make it mor palitable and take away any refernce to race that might be offensive.
And is that really my job? NO I am embarrassed to admit that it is my inclination though. How many of us practice being politically correct? I don't want to but I don't want to be considered a bigot if I don't. whats a southern girl to do?
