Politio: Can McCain claim the Ron Paul votes?

Decent article w/ many quotes from RP campaign folks.

EXCERPT:
With iconoclast Ron Paul having ended his quixotic bid for the Republican presidential nomination — his platform had called for, among other things, ending the Iraq War, repealing the PATRIOT Act, returning to the gold standard and eliminating taxes on tips — his many dedicated supporters are up for grabs.

Even excluding his support in caucus states, Paul received a few more than a million votes in the Republican primary, finished second in five states including Pennsylvania and Oregon and continued to draw votes well after he’d effectively withdrawn from the race. His campaign also tapped into the potent new vein of online fundraising, punctuated by the so-called “money bomb” day when his supporters, unaided by his campaign, managed to pump $5 million into his coffers in 24 hours.

It’s a support base that could make the difference in a close election, and while there’s no guarantee that his supporters will turn out at the polls for GOP standard-bearer John McCain, one thing seems clear: Despite their overlapping anti-Iraq war positions, Barack Obama will not make major inroads among them.

I have to say that I hated

I have to say that I hated this article. There was just too much in it that I found wrong. Not only did I see an ulterior motive behind the scenes, it was just down right insulting to Ron Paul.

To me, part of it seemed to be using reverse psychology to get Ron Paul supporters to believe that we will now vote John McCain. I can't for the life of me believe any Ron Paul supporter would vote for McCain. And at the same time this article offered fake praise to Ron Paul, it would insert condescending comments and smear tactics on old topics that have been addressed and put to rest.

Yes, This was another junk piece on Ron Paul. And just when I was starting to think that now that Ron Paul has suspended his campaign, the MSM was finally attempting to give Ron Paul the respect he deserves.

I say ignore this piece...... Just my opinion.

My feelings

exactly. When I read it I wasn't even going to bother responding. I think it is insulting. peace

The write states:

"no guarantee that his supporters will turn out at the polls for GOP standard-bearer John McCain" ? Someone has a gift for understatement.

The author lost me at "quixotic bid"! What IS this?!

A wonderful upstanding person, the "Champion of the Constitution" runs for president, with great success, I might add, and it is Quixotic?!!

Soooo what do you call it---when one of the LAST choices of the Republican Party ends up being the "presumptive nominee" after all of their "best candidates" fall by the wayside?!
I
t would be amusing, if it wasn't so serious, to watch the Republican Party's attempt to rally the troops behind such a flawed candidate as McCain, while also attempting to pretend Ron Paul doesn't exist!

We will see "BLOWBACK" in November for the Republicans if they continue down the "stupid" path!

Digg It!
