Ive been invited to a "Young Republicans" BBQ. Should I go?
Ive been invited to a "young republicans" BBQ. I would like to attend.
What are some good and effective ways to convert some of these folks to Ron Paul? I will take this serious. I plan on writing out talking points. Im gonna try to review some of Ron Pauls old youtube clips just to get some good insights.
I need some advice... how can I get into these peoples heads? How can I change their neo-cons minds without being abracive? What are good ways to approach the issues? How can I be assertive without being condecsending? How can I talk about the important issues, without looking like a conspiracy theorist? Any tips....

I'd go
and I'd bring 10-20 Revolution:The Manifesto books along

Eat some Q. Stand tall for Ron Paul.
Never be afraid to stand for your principles - Ron is an excellent role model for this. Does it very tactfully. Who knows, maybe you'll make a few converts - but you don't have to be a preacher to do it!
Bump
Any other eastern north carolinians? Craven County?
Semper Fortis
Go.
Preach ideas.
spread the knowledge
keep ron pauls name out of it for the most part. sheeple have been brainwashed
Keep your friends close...
And your enemies even closer...

Don't mention Ron Paul until you're "in", but be honest. Emphasize small government and the Constitution, and why pinot noir is excellent with salmon and pesto on a bed of angel hair, but most cabs are too much.
"Know what you know, know what you don't know, and understand and appreciate the distinction."

Please go and educate the
Please go and educate the young Republicans. Talk about being fiscally conservative, the need for smaller government and more power to the people. Once they've bought into this, then start hitting them with how the Fed inflates the money and how it is a private company.
Having a couple copies of The Revolution for those who seem to make the most inroads to liberty would not be a bad thing either.
First - take a cue from Dr
First - take a cue from Dr Paul and just stand there in your honest voice and tell the truth. I heard Ron say recently that the main issues boil down to the war, the Fed, and civil liberties. You may want to acquire a good number of pocket Constitutions to pass out. Being "Young" Republicans, you may be more warmly received than you expect.
When I'm talking with people, I like to boil it down to the very basic & simple. "Obey the law". What I'm fighting for is restoring the rule of law. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. When government actions and policies violate it, the government is breaking the law. When we allow government officials to break the law without consequence, we are sealing the fate of our nation. So first things first, we need to restore the rule of law and require our government officials to obey the law.
In all three cases, Iraq, The Fed, and domestic civil liberties, the issue ultimately boils down to requiring government to obey the law. You may have to bone up on the laws in question so you can have a ready fact-based right answer.
Hell Yes
Go, get along with people, start sowing the seeds for the next election. I find it easy to concede that "McCain is better than Obama" without saying I will vote for either (I won't).
Get your foot in the door and make friends. If you start with the attitude that you are there to "take over" the party, you never will. Be nice. Become an officer in the group. Then take over.
Remember that MOST Republicans still believe in small government, lower taxes, imigration reform, the second amendment, etc.
We need to be stronger in the next election cycle, and we start by prepping the battlefield now. Get nvolved. Get membership lists, phone rosters, points of contact, community supporters.
REMEMBER: Ron Paul tried a third party break away (1988), and now says it isn't feasible. Seceding from the Republican Party or attempting a hostile takeover are not viable strategies either. REFORMING the party is most viable approach to saving the Constitutional Republic.
Remember this, too: Ron Paul is a Republican, just not a neo-con!
Be a good listener then
when they bring up about different issues toss in some FACTS and numbers.
Things that make them stop and think. They will respect you because you will be the brain, the go to person for info. After you give them facts then it could lead to questions that make them have to think. Give website that give alternative news etc. Just my 2 cents. Peace
As superficial as this
As superficial as this sounds, a great pitch won't mean much if you aren't dressed appropriately. Respond to the invite asking what to wear. Say you aren't sure because BBQs tend to be informal but Young Republicans tend to be formal. I'm only saying this because if you show up in shorts and most other people are wearing sports coats, you won't have much success getting some of the kind of people who go to Young Republican BBQs to take you seriously. Note, this actually happened to me last year in NH.
You owe it to us to go!
>>...effective ways to convert some of these folks to Ron Paul?
Don't mention his name. The smart ones will figure it out and fill the others in in time.
The trick to making people adopt your point-of-view is to make them feel like they arrived at your conclusions on their own.
If you give them a label of some sort (Ron Paul), they will flash back to all the crap they've been told.
Discuss the issues on yor strengths. Find the smartest party-loyalist at the party and blow them out of the water with facts and history. I've converted many this way.
Get angry at the situation if need be. Be kind to your company.

To add to that...
Use...
FEEL, FELT, FOUND.
"I know exactly how you feel. I used to feel the same way. Then I found out...."
This will allow you to ease into a mind-changing convo.
YR's
I would definitely go! I'm an officer in the YR's, so I would just go and try to make friends. That is the best way to influence. Typically newcomers show up wanting to change the world overnight and leave making an ass out of themselves. Do not start confronting and arguing with people. That is the least effective way. You can have philosophical discussions but try to do it with a smile on your face and always try to end on a positive note. That is what I have been doing, and am now Vice Chairman of the YR's, a Ron Paul delegate to Nationals, etc.
Best post of the day.

Big D gives terrific advice.
Big D gives terrific advice. I can not add to it. I did however, give out Constitutions at my GOP meeting and they all know how I support it. Wait..I can add one thing to Big d's advice which is just about perfect. Listen to other people. They really like it. Agree whenever you can.
just say that you are a true
just say that you are a true conservative - individual freedom and responsiblity.
Bring copies of this

to the BBQ, and explain to them that the Republican Party is currently in crisis. The Neocon way has gone by the boards as a totally failed policy.
The new Republican Party is the way of Ron Paul, and you can help them to understand why the American values of fiscal responsibility, Constitutional government, and ending debt with sound monetary policies, are the real conservative polices that will replace the worn out old rags that are currently in office.
You'll have data in black and white that shows them that the conservative base does not support the current Neocon agenda. And that for them to be successful, they must adopt the Ron Paul Republican agenda as the wave of the future for Republicans.
If the "war" comes up, it is sufficient to say that Ron Paul recommends a Constitutional stance on the subject, and wars should not be done on a whim of the president, but only on a formal Declaration of War by Congress.
Remember, "the war" is "their baby", so you have to dip their toe in the water gently on that one at first, or they'll spit you out.
convincing
I would not go to 'convince' anyone, but to introduce yourself as a RP supporter. Those who are open will continue the conversation in a positive way, those ardent McCain supporters will try to win you over.
Hell yes
My advice would be wear what's appropriate. Feel out the room and bring up topics you think are right for each person. Get educated before you go and drop some bombs on people if you think they can handle it and not throw you out. We're going to win this by being on the inside.
