Gun Owners And Liberty.
First off, don't take this as a blanket statement of all gun owners, because it's not. I know plenty who do not feel this way. Sadly, I know personally, and see plenty online who do!
I find it shocking to see so many gun owners claiming that they own guns to defend liberty. You see it everywhere you look it seems. Gun forums, NRA website, and all the other gun organization sites. Everyone thinks their guns = liberty. And as long as they have their guns, they believe liberty is not lost.
That could not be farther from the truth. While guns may protect liberty if they are actually ever used, they are by no means liberty itself. And as long as a good amount of gun owners keep up that attitude that as long as they have guns, we have lost no liberty, then we are in trouble.
I find overwhelmingly that many gun owners support all the wars we get into, support the police state mentality because hey... all the swat and cops shows on tv have all the tacticool gear on them and it's fun to watch someone using all the stuff we wish we could have. They are completely blind to the truth. They do not see all this stuff as a threat to our liberty, and that is a bad sign.
Unless gun owners stop endorsing this endless war policy, thinking that blowing stuff up is the coolest thing in the world (when it comes to blowing up other humans and buildings, etc because blowing stuff up is cool, as long as it's something that doesn't harm someone else!), then we are doomed. We cannot be gun owners pretending to defend liberty just by owning guns, but then at the same time enabling our leaders to go do all the nasty bad work in our names. If we want to say we defend liberty, then it has to involve much more than guns. You cannot own a gun and claim to protect liberty, but then think it's perfectly fine to have your phones wiretapped illegally, mail searched illegally, houses searched illegally, and be stopped at police checkpoints for no reason at all.
Wake up! Wake up out of your slumber and realise that liberty IS being lost as we speak. Your guns do not equal liberty itself. Your constitution, all your rights, is what liberty is. You cannot lose all but your 2nd amendment, and still claim we have liberty. Wake up out of this haze they have you in which makes you believe this, before it's too late. We need you all to really know what liberty truly is, more than just a gun.
On a side note, I was going through a campground near my house yesterday and saw a sheriffs deputy leaving on the road heading toward me. I figured I'd be polite and wave to him, as I do with most law enforcement just to be nice. Noticed he had a nice clean shaven head (probably to fit his badass tough guy image to intimidate us peasants). Well, he kind of answered that for me.. he just glared at me, and gave me no wave back. I felt like giving him the hitler salute once he did that!

I was coming home
from Kentucky and crossing into Missouri around midnight last night and the highway patrol had a road block with a cop cars ( 4 of them ) blocking the intersection into Missouri and they were forcing people to show thier licenses and registration and proof of insurance. I was so tired, I had been driving across three states. It's getting so bad from these jack booted thugs, that I will take my chances with the real criminals. I hate cops. ALL cops. I am sorry, I just cant help it. I watched them ( all in thier early 20's ) laughing and shining thier flashlights and looking like they were bad ( a couple of them had shaved heads too ) asses. Someday it will be us against them in the streets. I cant help my distaste for them, I have known several and even a distant relative is a cop over in another town and they are all crooked as the day is long. My distant relative I see at Thanksgiving. Last Thanksgiving he told us bragging about picking up this drunk guy, and the drunk guy was getting mouthy ( which is what drunk people do ) and the arrested him and the guy spit on them in the process, so they ( him and his partner ) took him back in the cell and turned the camera off and beat the guy up. This is someone who is supposed to protect and serve, plus he is always talking about hurting people and the latest weapons they get. Sickening. I just hate cops.

Yeah, when I was younger, i used to wave at the police. I don't anymore. If anything, I give them the bird. Have yet to be pulled over.
Now that I think about it, I don't ever remember an actual police officer waving back at me. It was always the sheriffs and deputies that waved back.
Anyway, I agree with what you say. I live in Alabama and all the rednecks and wannabe cowboys around here are disgusting.
