The second amendment was
The second amendment was meant as the teeth of the constitution so that in the event our government was reduced to a tyrannical, despotic one, the people would have the means to overthrow such government.
Obviously rifles and handguns against tanks and machine guns is ludicrous. But the fact that we can inflict damage if pressured is what counts.
To try to reinterpret the second amendment as anything other than the right for each individual to bear arms without question.. is to weaken our ability to be safe from tyranny.
Our system of checks and balances is crumbling. Now is not the time to weaken our second amendment rights.
Hopefully all the justices slipped into the supreme court under GWB do not take the constitution as lightly has he has.

I frankly do not see any evidence that the nature of man or that
of Governmental rule have changed so significantly for the better in 2008 that America should consider abandoning the Second Amendment. (Just read a newspaper-power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutley)
It seems to me that we have the right to bear arms without infringement precisely to ensure that Government doesn't get too big for its britches and step outside its Constitutionally limited bounds. What's next the right to life liberty or happiness?
Right of redress is guaranteed by the First Amendment/the Second gives it bite!

I think the problem people have with the second is the "well regulated militia" part/

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the
right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
But instead of us against them rifles against tanks,the military also took a oath to uphold the Constitution.And it would also be a well regulated militia,being necessary to the security of a free State.I see not only that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms,but also enlist the military as a help to preserve the Constitutional Government.
Let's start sitting up state militias

The state legislature has threatened secession if the Supreme Court rules that the 2nd Amendment does not apply to individual citizens, since the Montana constitution was approved by the Congress, and it specifically gives individual citizens the right to keep and bear arms..

This is a very possible future.
I predict Montana will be the first to secede. Followed by Alaska, and possibly Oklahoma and Nevada.
Once one state does it and doesn't get nuked, they'll start dropping like dominoes. When Texas goes, the United States will collapse financially.

At first I thought this was a joke
"Professor Bogus", IMO, is aptly named. He is putting forth his opinion that the 2nd Amendment is all about the Government. This from a group that supposedly is about Constitutional study? This seems like gun grabbing propaganda to me.

This guy is clueless.
I particularly like where he says the Framers could not have intended arms to be for protection against tyranny because "the idea that people have a right to arm themselves to go to war with their own government is antithetical to constitutional democracy and the rule of law". Doesn't this ignore the fact that the Framers HAD JUST FINISHED going to war with their government? Hahahahaha! He obviously thinks the Framers were a bunch of ivory tower wimps like him rather than men of courage with the blood of tyrants still fresh on their hands.
