George Carlin died yesterday. They say he was a comedian, but mostly he just told the truth. Case in point, the following routine "America is tyranny."

Yes, there are plenty of religions that try to control their members. There are plenty of religions that are only loosely based on the Truth. There are also governments (e.g. our own) who tell their people lies to control them. They even tell their people that it's not government that's the problem, but organized religion that causes them to feel guilty, thus robbing them of their peace.
The fact is, there is only one true religion. For the last 100 years it has been systematically infiltrated by Freemasons who let in Communists, who let in homosexuals. Many of the people who claim to practice this true religion are really termites ... destroying it from within, and doing a mightly impressive job of it. They have caused every manner of scandal ... financial, ethical, moral.
However, what that religion teaches and has taught for the last 2,000 years is still true (but you must wade through a lot of modern bs to find it). It is the only religion founded by Jesus Christ. It is the only religion that can save you. It has fought heresy (lies) from its inception, though few people today equate heresy with lies ... but that's exactly what they are ... they are the lies that enslave you.
Now, you can investigate what I say and try to disprove it (which is how most people finally convert to this faith), or you can waltz your way into hell by ignoring this challenge and doing your own thing.
Getting to your point about homosexuals and marriage, it's not that the Catholic Church has taken a stand opposing homosexual "marriage," but that God has taken that stand and called it an ABOMINATION for a man to lay with another man. St. Paul states that homosexuals do not go to heaven. The Catholic Church -- the ONE, TRUE CHURCH -- does not want homosexuals to spend eternity in hell. They, like Christ, desire that all men be saved.
Unfortunately, the intellectual arrogance prevalent today will cause the damnation of a great number of people.
The first step on the road to salvation, is to get down on your knees and sincerely ask for God's mercy and guidance. God NEVER refuses a sincere request. It's so simple, you'd think everyone would do it. But they won't because it means swallowing their pride ... and, hey, who does God think He is to be so darn judgmental! Well, the answer is, He's GOD ... your creator Who loves you more than you can imagine; and, yes, He's your judge too. You belong to Him whether you like it or not.

Ben Stein did a movie, "Expelled, No Intelligence Allowed," which is probably not in the movies anymore, but will be coming out on DVD shortly.

There are a lot of good books challenging evolution, Michael Behe did one, but I can't remember its title, about the irreducible complexity of what Darwinians blow off as "simple one-celled animals" and building blocks to more complex creatures. The fact is, they're not simple at all and each creature is so unique in its various systems that, to an intelligent observer, they don't appear to be related at all..

To be sure, I read extensively on evolution, which you, obviously, do not. Evolutionists' geological record is a fabrication, Their whole timeline ... the "billions and billions and billions or years," a la Carl Sagan, is in a shambles (but nevermind that inconvenient fact).
Horror of horrors, they have recently sawed a few of their dinosaur "fossil" bones in two and discovered GOOEY ... still relatively fresh and well preserved organic, MATTER! This from a T Rex hipbone that (if you believe in fairytales) went extinct 65,000,000 years ago. I don't think so! It makes me laugh to imagine those boobs coming up with their phony explanations of how the goo lasted for 65,000,000 years. It should be a pip!
In Peru, archeologists have discovered numerous graves where men were buried with carved rocks, called "Ica Stones", probably depicting events in their lives. A great many of these carvings accurately depict dinosaurs or even men fighting dinosaurs. Now our present day scientists must truly jump through hoops and concoct the most outlandish theories to explain how people, who lived between 2500 and 1000 years ago, knew exactly what many dinosaur species looked like when men barely 100 years ago thought they were the first to stumble upon dinosaur fossils. But mostlty what they do best is ignore the evidence and/or try to discredit it.
As an example, they went to the trouble to have some local peasant carve a new "Ica Stone" for them and then had it tested. Of course, the test showed that modern tools were used (metal filings, etc. in the grooves, and that the rock appeared to be new -- no patina which developes slowly with age). On the basis of that test, they then prognosticated that ALL the stones were fakes. And, of course, all their friends in the lackey press obligingly printed their "findings." Yea, right!
Finally, from Texas to Turkanistan there are -- preserved in rock, which obviously started out as mud -- footprints of men and dinosaurs side by side. I don't mean one or two specimens ... I mean thousands! They can even follow their paths. Guaranteed, you will NEVER hear about this from an evolutionist!
I could go on till sometime next month. But the only information that will persuade you is the stuff you discover for yourself. I really hope you'll take a look at both sides. I think you'll find that the evolutionists are always breathless and starry eyed when they speak of evolution. When you cut through their crap, however, you discover that it's nothing but hot air. I limit my beliefs to facts, logic and necessary premises. I call this the foundation of reason. This is what lead me to libertarianism. And Ron Paul.
If we add unnecessary premises to the mix then we have a free for all. Anyone can assume anything he or she wants, and there is no way to discern right from wrong. For example, if beliefs based on unnecessary premises are just as valid as any other beliefs, then how do you refute the terrorist who believes God has declared all Americans are evil and must be killed? You are exchanging reason for the unnecessary premise that your conception of god is real and not fantasy, and all bets are now off.
That's why when I was about 25 years old I decided reason was too valuable to chuck out the window in order to retain my faith, and I spent about six months reconstructing my view of the world, purging every unnecessary premise I could find from my belief system.

I like Carlin. He's not my favorite though I don't know his early stuff. Either way, there is part of him I really dislike. He is in some ways just as bad as that which he ridicules. In other words, you ever notice how he never specifics what he is talking about. It is always "they" and never a description and clarification of who "they" are. What's worse is he is a comedian who doesn't always do his job. He takes advantage of having the attention and microphone to pontificate on matters instead of being a comedian. The job of a comedian is to make someone laugh. That is the only goal and that is it. He is a comedian and a great one in many ways but he takes that position and abuses it (i think unknowing actually). If he wants to talk about matters and not be funny, fine, but go teach or write a book or become a journalist. Otherwise he is just as bad as the idiots he is ridiculing. He ironically becomes a preacher instead of a comedian.

Well, there are three times that there was something humorous: his quip that "you ain't in it", type of color of your shirt comment, and at the very end talking about shoving ur dick or something like that. Aside from that he and it was not funny and you can tell he was not attempting to be funny. He was being serious. It was not funny. And again, he doesn't specify who "they" are.

In this case, however, he's tilting at the wrong windmill.
The wealthy are not the enemy. The corporations don't have all the power. Politicians are not solely to blame.
The stockholders own the corporations. Do they vote responsibly or throw their proxies in the trash? The voters elect the politicians. Do they pay attention and look beneath the surface?
It's all very easy to pick an enemy, but it isn't fair to blame Ron Paul because he's a politician. It isn't fair to blame George Lucas because he's wealthy. Or blame corporations (and their 401k stockholders).
The special interests such as the wealthy and the large corporations lobby congress in self defense against the attacks of voters: voters who are also consumers and stockholders, and who outnumber them, millions to one, and who often approve of congress when it steals money from them to pay for our government goodies.
We (as a group) get the government we (as a group) deserve. We (as individuals) need to grow the group who want freedom and are willing to give it to others; even the wealthy. Otherwise, we're doomed to keep fighting over who gets a little freedom this week.

I have a problem with no child left behind. I don't think it is making any difference at all. George is absolutely right. They are lowering the standards and then claiming that progress is being made when more kids are passing the test. My son in 6th grade was testing at 13th grade. I wanted to take him out of school this year during the 3 days of testing. I thought I might take him to a museum instead of wasting 3 days. I decided I would let the school know and they freaked out. One guy actually started yelling at me and spewing all this no child left behind crap. I mentioned that I didn't think it was possible for him to be left behind at this point. He told me "it's the law." He also told me that when he returns he would be pulled out of class and given the test. There was no way he was going to let me get away with it. My son is in a room filled with kids in the 99th percentile and the flood gates would open. I had to drop it for my sons sake. He loves school and is having a lot of fun. They would have suspended or expelled him.
I went through that as a kid.
In my case it was the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. The way those worked each year had some overlap from the previous year, and you only were to do a specific section. I was so bored with these tests that in the 4th and 5th grade I filled up the bubble sheets with my sections and the others as well, and aced all of them. It drove the test proctors nuts, but what could they do about it with a kid testing post-high-school in the 3rd grade, always finished and aced the test within the time frame, and spent the rest of the time bored out of his mind waiting for everyone else?
It got to the point in the 6th grade when test-time came around, they didn't bother me with the test--they sent me on teacher and office errands instead. One day I even got the day off and went home.
The best way to beat the system is from the inside-out.
Things have changed.
There used to be common sense in testing. If you didn't need it, you might be able to get out of it. According to our school district, it is now required through no child left behind that all public school kids are tested in reading and math every year. It is no longer about the individual. If you were in school now you would be forced to take the test for legal and statistical reasons. It wouldn't be that bad if our state test wasn't almost completely useless. It's so bad that our school district also tests the kids with a test from another state. They also group IQ test the kids for placement. Some years my kids have had to take 3 tests each lasting for 3 days. They are sick of being tested. That being said, I wouldn't move them. We are otherwise very happy with our public school.
