DOLLAR store CRISIS!
Ever wonder what will happen tot he Dollar Stores?
With the rising costs it is my guess they will be next on the chopping block.
How can a DOLLAR store exist in such an economy? Can it?
If they can't then I suggest stocking up on Dollar goodies while you still can.
Unless, someone else can tell me how they can survive.
Maybe they will be the $2 stores soon. Thus, you can buy up a bunch of stuff now and then sell the goods at flee markets to make a few bucks.
Just a thought. Sorry. I know it's not Constitution related.

I once looked into a opening a Dollar Store...
On average, the typical dollar store net is 30% on each dollar of items purchased through a distributor and up to 70-80% if you purchase bulk closeouts, overruns etc.
As long as the average owner still has some room for profit, as long as a majority of his inventory is discounted and bulk closeouts.

Ho man this brings back memories
Growing up in Sacramento,CA I use to visit the 98 cents stores we had. It was a good time. Got a dollar lets go to the 98 cents store. Then around 98 they changed into dollar tree stores. Now I don't know what they are. 6 years away from home and things change. Anyway I am more than positive they will be the 5 dollar stores pretty soon.
They USED to be DIME stores
Of course, dimes were 90% silver at the time. In the 50s and 60s, dimestores were common. Don't see them much anymore.
In Zimbabwe, such stores would now be something like "Quadrillion-trillion-zillion dollar stores", considering that you need a boatload of Zim$ to buy a loaf of bread. If you could FIND a loaf of bread, that is.
In 1980, the Zim$ was worth a bit MORE than the American dollar, and Zimbabwe was the richest nation in Africa. That's hyperinflation for you.
My grandmother took me to dime stores ...
in the 70's when I was a child...Now I take my children to the Dollar stores...Cursed Federal reserve and fiat money!

Telling me. Well I guess we weren't suppose to know that our fiat currency was a lie. Remember FRN(Federal Reserve Notes) are not the same as USA minted One Dollar coins. One still buys what it did in 1913. The other doesn't. The note is a piece of paper loaned to you. A piece of PAPER. Man I am pissed off. Here have this note for all of your hard work. Its worth nothing only able to purchase what is wanted by the seller. What would happen if sellers started saying we only accept USA minted coinage. Whoa wouldn't that put a dent in the FED's loan program.
I used to get...
...canned, smoked oysters (one of my favorite things) at the $ store. Haven't seen 'em in a long time... They are over $2 at the grocery store.
'Course, since I live in Maine, I do have to plow the lobsters out of my driveway every morning, so I've got that going for me... ;)

Guess who owns most of the dollar stores, and convenient stores in the good old USA?
Well, there is a new dollar
Well, there is a new dollar type store chain around called "5 Below." Maybe that will be the new trend for this type of store.
We got one here in
We got one here in Feasterville...
Sign of the times for sure
if dollar stores are going out of business, what is next? No need to apologize it is Constitution related, because we would not be in this mess that is going to worsen if it would have been followed.
hey victory,
maybe they make their profit in sheer volume.i shop there often to save money, as do most of the women in the area. (women that didnt use to shop there by the way ! ) great savings and constantly busy , some days no empty carts ! very good place to pick up canned goods and some storable foods too. but i agree how much longer can it be one dollar with the value of the dollar in free fall.
I think of you often
with your five children. However, from what I have read you are in a position to weather the storm, where others will be hard pressed with all of their unnessary comforts.
cant get to sleep either huh victory?
thanks for remembering my kids. i got a modest and totally unexpected windfall recently and made sure to buy a berkey water filter ( it came with two free fluroide filters, and i ordered seven year supply of heirloom seed.i made with amends with my x serveral months back, we have become good friends again and kids are happy as well. he wanted to help and worked with a gentlemen that has a rental home vacant for a year. he offered it to me for almost nothing, if i cleaned, mowed, painted, and did some minor repair , best of all , its hooked up for woodstove. this means survival for us now. i keep trying to warn people, most dont listen, a few do. one thing i know, they wont be taking us off to a camp, thats where i draw my line.
If I recall, you are in upstate NY
near the Canada border ( funny how I have very selective memory now) don't ask me what conversation took place when I was bored with freinds 2 nights ago) anyway you are 3 or 4 hours ahead of me in CA. I have noticed my sleep patterns changing as of late. I will wake up wide awake at 3 in the morning. I tried getting the Berkly filter, but for some reason they don't sell to Calif.. Anyway, I was very impressed with your story of being independent with your children.
you have a good memory
i didnt realize you are on pacific time, its almost one a.m. here. my kids first nite of school break so of course they stayed up late watching cartoons, and are now strewn around the house. wonder whats up with berkey and california? do you have room for a garden? do you know how to can? not so long ago i was a total paycheck whore and made a decent living as a nurse on the night shift.my life is so different now, i wouldnt go back to that for anything. big pharma and corporate profits have totally corrupted nursing and the u.s. health care system in general.i have my integrity back and now i am happy with the simple things of life again. are you ready if the worst happens?
I have the basics
Food, water, metals, fertile land with a well, stored necessities. I have always maintained storage though, just because of the idea you never know what is going to happen. I have seen too many people panic going to the stores buying stuff at the last minute after a natual disaster. To me it is just common sense to not put yourself in a situation where you become dependant on someone else, especially the government.
Alien...
For what it's worth, I was also a (paycheck whore) gov't contractor owning my own company and making $118/hr in Northern Virginia. 2 years ago (after my awakening had fully set-in), I walked away from it all and moved to rural Maine. I couldn't sleep anymore... I now make $20/hr and am struggling to make ends meet, but it's okay... Most call me crazy...
I, also, am happy with the simple things in life, and I sleep well, now, too...
Wishing you the best, I am,

ive been awake just about a year now. course, its a constant ongoing learning process. my family thought i d gone totally insane. and it wasnt so much that i had any sort of grand vision of where i was going, its just i knew i couldnt do it for one more minute. i have learned to live on almost nothing but healthily and fairly comfortably, the kids are much happier with the simple life .im waking people up to the lost art of bartering again. the kids are much happier and spend most of their days outside in nature, we eat better with hardly any junk, i make cakes and cookies and all meals from scratch. and best of all i get to be home with my family away from the beast.
Alienlve, that is wonderful
Alienlve, that is wonderful to hear! I know just how you feel --- I have to be MUCH more frugal than I would have been before, but it's not overly burdensome, just a challenge. And I have cut out some things (expensive things) from my life that in the end I don't much miss anyway. I just wish more Americans could realize how pointless and unfulfilling it is to pursue the shallow, materialistic "American Dream" that has now turned into the American nightmare for so many.
In Britain we have "PoundLand", "PoundWorld" and the 99p store
£1.00 is about $2.00 US at current exchange rates.
I buy all my chocolate, deodorant and razors at these outlets. Whatever doesn't sell at the more expensive stores ends up there. Even hardcover books...

i know
I know the Dollar General by me sells Ball Mason jars real cheap. Great for canning!
You underestimate
You underestimate how cheaply things can be made in Bangladesh sweatshops.
$1.00 is still a lot of profit margin when you pay your workers a few dollars a week, when you use industrial waste grade paint and dyes, and when you ship the useless plastic crap by the metric ton.
The Dollar Store will exist...the stuff will get poorer in quality.
I don't know how they can
even make, package and ship something and still sell it and make a profit for a dollar!
My Dollar store has 40% off
right now,
I think I will stock up on all the luxury items such as dish soap, detergent, and sea salt and pepper. I also by my nuts and gummy bears there too!
They are not dollar stores...
The dollar stores in my area have most of their merchandise marked at $5.00. It's been this way since last year!
There is a "dollar store"
There is a "dollar store" near me that has a large sign, stating:
DOLLAR STORE
All Items $1.25
I thought it was very amusing.
Two local stores have already changed...
One is now a $1.05 and the other $1.10
You do know that they USED to be called "five & dime" stores, right?
I predict very soon they will be called "5 & 10" stores, which will allow them a bit more leeway.
The old "five and dime" stores had things that you
actually wanted and needed to buy.
Dollar stores?
