The Amish are under siege!

This article appeared in Mother Earth News...
The Amish community in Blairsville Pennsylvania is being asked to compromise their religious beliefs on behalf of the sewage authorities. The sewage authority wants to ban their outdoor privies and has issued a $1,000 per day fine and threatened jail time if they do not cease using the facilities at home and at their school.

First they came for the Muslims, and I did nothing because I wasn't a Muslim. Then they came for the Amish...

First They Came for the Jews

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out

Then they came for the trade unionists

because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left

Heh that doesn't surprise me at all

Give it ten more years when some wet behind the ears college boy tries to do something new and innovative, as he has been taught that he should to be successful, and initiates a research study that finds facial hair is a health hazard, thinking he has done a great deed for society. Hence the day the Amish and the Hell's Angels banded together, marched onto Washington and threatened road apple warfare.

Zoning out the Amish

I live in a county where 20% of the children are Amish. Amish families in my county average 7.3 children. Sign ordinances and zoning are two smart growth planning tools used to hinder Amish expansion. When infrequently Amish get in trouble with the law, the local papers make a big deal of it. One Amish guy who had a sawmill was fined thousands of dollars for burning off scrap cuttings in a ditch after the DNR told him he had to get rid of it because mice might be attracted. The DNR made an example of him.

Local villages require contractor licenses to screen out the Amish who often do roofing and carpentry for less than the professional remodelers.

great info, thanks

Licensing is a scam.

The whole point of getting the state involved in licensing schemes is to protect the existing vendors from new competition. I'm fully capable of wiring and plumbing a house in compliance with all the applicable codes, but if I offer to do it for a buddy at cost, I'm a criminal.

The federal reserve is not the only intrusion in our economic freedom that we have to get rid of.

*shakes head*

Never ceases to surprise me. Humans are so stupid. We look around at all the nature around us, all the beauty. We spend tons of money protecting the "wild" so that we have these places to go visit. And then we spend even more money to have government, and even church to an extent, take all the wild and natural ways out of us.

We're confined by fences, roads, laws. We cannot just be free as the animals are. For all our brain power we have, we sure are pretty damn stupid when it comes to allowing others to have total control over us.

If a bear can crap in the woods and leave it there, then why can't we? Because we are not free, simple as that. We are not allowed to be natural. We are forced to comform to the wishes of rich tyrants who have always sought total control over us. And we do it willingly.

We are merely being destroyed by our own ignorance.

As I understand it,

the Amish are fairly politically and legally savvy. I'm guessing (praying) that they will weather this storm as well as they have weathered the others.

Ahhhh... to be left alone... someday....

BTW, I pee outside every chance I get... ;)

Hey, I do that too!

Hey, I do that too! Pee in my yard, that is, but it's all woods around the side and back of the house, so if the dog can do it, where's the harm?

I pee in my front yard,I live in a culdesac.

A man has to mark his turf. Draw his line in the sand ,so to speak.

If they can't let the Amish take a crap in peace, then they sure aren't going to give Constitutionalists an easy time.

This is such a perfect topic

This is such a perfect topic for boys!!

Howdy, Akak...

I live in the second to "last wilderness"... Maine...

Even if I pee in the toilet, it ends up in my yard, so I say take out the middleman...

Do you still have snow??? Ours was done in early June...

Got any St. Bernards???

Yours in Liberty,

Shovel

Hey Shovelhead! No snow

Hey Shovelhead!

No snow anymore, well, not on the flats --- still a lot around 3000' on the mountains over my house, though. And yeah, same situation with sanitation -- it's all going into the yard, so why waste the water to flush it?

No St. Bernards. Had a wolf ("Dudley"), but he died last year at age 13 --- and not making this up, but he was killed by a wandering wolfpack. Ironic, huh?

Get moose in the yard from time to time, annoying bastards (goodbye garden in 2 minutes!), and bears once or twice a year, but no real problems with them.

Hey Akak,

I believe that is much of the reason that the .45-70 round was created (and chambered in both pistol and rifle)... ;) Moose, at least here, is a delicacy...

Sorry to hear about Dudley... Dogs are, truly, a blessing... At least to me...

Wishing you warm days and cool nights, I am,

Yours in Liberty,

Shovel

I have a wolf hybred

I wanted to start a small boarding kennel and the county said I had to have TWO septic tanks. 1 for animal waste and 1 for human waste. Ca'nt mix them they say. Keeps them from breaking down right in the septic system. Talk about a load of c--- (pun intended) Do'nt pee where your dog pees who knows what might happen! :-O I've only been on one real trip in my life and I chose Maine. It did not disapoint! Beautiful! Drove through New Hampshire. Nice there too.

I was only in Maine once,

I was only in Maine once, many years ago as a kid, but I loved it. If I had to move back to the Lower 48, it would be to the UP of Michigan or Maine.

Yes, Dudley was a special creature --- my sister, who only met him once, cried when he died. I wish I could attach a photo here.

Well, we're having cool days AND cool nights (what there is of it), but thanks, and the same to you!

I envy both of you

i have many amish neighbors

i was so hoping they would stay below the radar a little longer. they work hard, mind their own business, worship the Lord, take care of their families, ask nothing from the government than to be left alone. our enemy is revealing itself now.

We could learn a lesson or two

from the Amish. As I look back at our simple life on the family farm I believe most of us were created to work and live off from the land. It is in our souls.
Today's young people would eat and sleep so well if they spent some time working on an Amish farm. Throw away the Riddlin. It is a wholesome life on so many levels. The family farms are the backbone and common sense of this country.
So sad to hear that even the Amish can no longer preserve their lifestyle

PS: Related topic. I found it offensive when these female TV shrews had the nerve to laugh at the FLDS women and how they dressed. These so called modern women with their heavy make-up, face lifts, old wrinkled cleavage, short skirts, latch key, nanny raised children (not out of financial necessity) an oh the vanity....VAIN,VAIN, VAIN. They are so damned politically correct about anyone else who is "different" but with religious sects it is open season. There, I finally got that off my chest.

I did a search and can't find any articles, although someone DID mention it in a comment under a letter.

This country is really

going down the crapper!!So is
there a law against "going" behind a bush!

if you get caught going in public

You can get put on the sex offenders list. How ludicrous and unjust.

I hope they fight this.

I hope they fight this. And, I really hope they have accepted their land patents.
