What is REALLY wrong with our leaders?
For all of my life, one of my greatest interests has been to understand the nature of human evil, and deception is one of the primary characteristics of evil people.

Could it be caused by "natural hormones'?
Maybe some of them don't start as psychopaths but something changes inside them on their rise to power?
A bit of barnyard biology.
It is well documented that as animals become high status in a dominance hierarchy their level of testosterone increases (both males and females). It is also well documented that higher levels of testosterone are associated with more violent behavior. I don't know if higher levels of testosterone lead to paranoid behavior as well, as it is difficult to measure a chickens level of paranoia, but I would imagine it would.
I don't know for a fact, if the human hormone system reacts similarly but being very social creatures with a formal social hierarchy, and noted for their intense pursuit of status, one could suppose they would.
I could imagine that most high level politicians probably started with a higher than normal level of testosterone and the closer they get to the top the higher their levels of testosterone rise, leading to aggression, and maybe even paranoid behavior.
Could this also be a partial explanation for the propensity of leaders to go to war?

I was once a prison guard and I also lived in a homeless shelter for three months. I can tell you that poor, slum dwelling people are alot safer to me than most prison guards and politicians.

Wow, Armor, the book on 'ponerology' sounds like this might
end up being one of 'those books' to read in order to understand' how 5% of the population controls the other 95%.
While there are some very positive trends in humanity that are a direct threat to these evil ones, there is going to be some very shocking information in this book, especially to those who really haven't a clue what is behind the curtain of the 'psychopaths' running our world right now.
Just as long as I sprinkle my life with some cheerful humor and some dreamy endeavors, I think I might read this book.

interesting, I saw this last night while I was at work. I will go to those sites and read your links. Thanks, I agree people do need to be aware of this. Before I really started digging and learning more about all the corruption going on in this country I read the book by Robert D. Hare, PhD, ""Without Conscience. It was very chilling and helped me really understand the actions of people in power. Things that would horrify normal people, like Ruby Ridge, Waco, 9/11 etc., don't even phase the people that are involved in commiting these horrific acts. They don't have a conscience. Glad you brought the subject up, I never wanted too. You can't just go off and label some one a psychopath or a sociopath, but if you understand what they are it changes how you understand and perceive what they are up too. They are very frightening.

but do not quote me, that you have to fulfill a certain number of criteria to get the label of psychopath.
Note that the psychological communuity is trying to replace psychopathy with the more politically correct and watered down "anti social" label, which actually throws out some of the most vital criteria needed to recognize such behavior.

yes, it's been some time since I read the book but I think you are correct in there being criteria in the labeling (hate that word label) of a psychopath. Also it isn't something for the untrained. But understanding the basics workings of how someone without a conscience functions is good to know, at least for me. I don't think the psychological community can, but of course it wouldn't stop them, from going to a more soft "anti-social" label because in my opinion I agree with you that it throws out some of the most vital criteria. Guess we do know who would be pushing for something like that.
Robert D. Hare, Phd was the developer of the world's most widely used tools for assessing psychopathy. Chilling stuff.

what is the hypothesis of ponerology. From what I take it's saying that because our leaders are evil so therefore Christ is coming again.
