DownsizeDC.org has grown in all directions this month. Here's the breakdown…

Pressure on Congress

In March you, DC Downsizers, sent more than 50,000 messages to Congress for the first time, setting a new record of 51,390.

This month you've soared passed 60,000 messages for the first time, setting yet another record -- 67,470 messages as of this morning!

Overall, DC Downsizers have sent 298,635 messages to Congress in 2008, which is 104,784 messages ahead of last year's pace.

Recruitment

Also, as of this morning, we've recruited 686 new Downsizers in June. So far in 2008 recruitment is 770 ahead of last year.

The number of subscribers to the Downsizer Dispatch has also grown – 23,392.

This is highly significant, because unlike most organizations we work our list very hard, sending action items almost every day. This results in a lot of turnover. But our list continues to grow and the intensity of our supporters is growing too. DC Downsizers sent an average of 1.71 messages to Congress per month in 2007. This month Downsizers sent an average of 2.88 messages to Congress.

Education

As our subscriber list grows, so too does the educational impact of the Downsizer-Dispatch. So far this year we've distributed 2,718,984 copies of the Dispatch, which is 184,452 ahead of last year.

Outreach

As the Downsizer Dispatch list grows, so too does the number of Dispatches that are forwarded to potential new recruits. We have no way of tracking these numbers, but we can track outreach through our tell-a-friend system, which allows Downsizers to tell friends about our campaigns.

In June 3,365 tell-a-friend messages were sent, the most so far this year. Overall, tell-a-friend messages are 6,630 ahead of last year's pace.

Funding

The last thing we need to make June a really great month is to raise another $279. It's a very small amount, but if we don't get it then we miss out on $3,600 in matching pledges, and we don't make budget for this month. Please help us close this gap. You can contribute here.
