Ok anti-truthers...
Let's assume that they didn't blow up the buildings. There is a strong case to be made for government complicity either way. Does it matter if they allowed it to happen... or even if they were simply incompetent in letting it occur? Someone should still be punished. Someone should lose a job. Maybe some people should go to jail.
But nothing happened to anyone.
Here's what I know for sure. These are irrifutable facts from main stream news sources:
1980s: Osama bin Laden runs a front organization for the mujaheddin—Islamic freedom fighters rebelling against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. The CIA secretly backs the mujaheddin. Pakistan's President Benazir Bhutto, understanding the ferocity of Islamic extremism, tells then President George Bush, "You are creating a Frankenstein." [MSNBC, 8/24/98, Newsweek, 10/1/01]
1994: Two attacks take place which involve hijacking planes to crash them into buildings, including one by an Islamic militant group. In a third attack, a lone pilot crashes a plane at the White House. Yet after Sept. 11, over and over aviation and security officials say they are shocked that terrorists could have hijacked airliners and crashed them into landmark buildings. [New York Times, 10/3/01]
Sept 1999: A US intelligence report states bin Laden and Al-Qaeda terrorists could crash an aircraft into the Pentagon. The Bush administration claims not to have heard of this report until May 2002, though it was widely shared within the government. [CNN, 5/18/02, AP, 5/18/02, Guardian, 5/19/02]
Jan 2000: George Bush Sr. meets with the bin Laden family on behalf of the Carlyle Group. He also met with them in 1998. Bush’s chief of staff could not remember that this meeting took place until shown a thank you note confirming the meeting. [Wall Street Journal, 9/27/01, Guardian, 10/31/01]
July 24, 2001: Larry Silverstein's $3.2 billion 99-year lease of the WTC is finalized. Silverstein hopes to win $7 billion in insurance from the destruction of the WTC towers. [NY Times, 02/16/03, Newsday, 09/25/02]
Also, it had been requested that the WTC towers be demolished in the past because of numerous problems, but the asbestos inside prevented the Port Authority from allowing it. But after the incident occurred, the government assured everyone the air was ok to breathe.
Why would Silverstein buy these buildings that were essentially condemned?
Late July 2001: The US and UN ignore warnings from the Taliban foreign minister that bin Laden is planning an imminent huge attack on US soil. The FBI and CIA also fail to take seriously warnings that Islamic fundamentalists have enrolled in flight schools across the US. [Independent, 9/7/02, more]
Aug 6, 2001: President Bush is warned by US intelligence that bin Laden might be planning to hijack commercial airliners. The White House waits eight months after 9/11 to reveal this fact. [New York Times, 5/16/02] Titled “Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US,” the intelligence briefing specifically mentions the World Trade Center. Yet Bush later states the briefing “said nothing about an attack on America.” [Washington Post, 4/12/04, White House, 4/11/04, CNN, 4/10/04, Intelligence Briefing, 8/6/01, more]
Aug 24, 2001: Frustrated with lack of response from FBI headquarters about detained suspect Moussaoui, the Minnesota FBI begins working with the CIA. The CIA sends alerts calling him a "suspect 747 airline suicide hijacker." Three days later an FBI Minnesota supervisor says he is trying to make sure that Moussaoui does not "take control of a plane and fly it into the World Trade Center." [Senate Intelligence Committee, 10/17/02] FBI headquarters chastises Minnesota FBI for notifying the CIA. [Time, 5/21/02] FBI Director Mueller will later say "there was nothing the agency could have done to anticipate and prevent the [9/11] attacks." [Senate Intelligence Committee, 9/18/02, more]
Sept 10, 2001: A particularly urgent warning may have been received the night before the attacks, causing some top Pentagon brass to cancel a trip. “Why that same information was not available to the 266 people who died aboard the four hijacked commercial aircraft may become a hot topic on the Hill." [Newsweek, 9/13/01] "A group of top Pentagon officials suddenly canceled travel plans for the next morning, apparently because of security concerns." [Newsweek, 9/24/01, more]
Sept 10, 2001: Former president Bush is with a brother of Osama bin Laden at a Carlyle business conference. The conference is interrupted the next day by the attacks. [Washington Post, 3/16/03]
Sept 10, 2001: Defense Secretary Rumsfeld announces that by some estimates the Department of Defense "cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions." CBS later calculates that 25% of the yearly defense budget is unaccounted for. A defense analyst says, “The books are cooked routinely year after year." [DOD, 9/10/01, CBS, 1/29/02] This announcement was buried by the next day’s news of 9/11.
Anyway, there's LOTS more where that came from, pages and pages of interesting little tid-bits like that. I've just barely scratched the surface in this post.

Our government is corrupt, and they are covering it all up with these whitewash investigations. Someone should hang, and a different investigation should be done... not by the government... to figure out who all was involved and who dropped the ball. And they all should pay.

Yes, there is a huge difference.
Back to Occam's Razor.
The simplest, most likely explanation is incompetence, Government incompetence is as common as flies on shit. This would be the best theory to investigate.
Letting it happen would be a distant second. This is complicated because you have to figure out who let it happen, and why they might have wanted it to happen. I suppose it could be a mix of let it happen and incompetence.
Far and away the worst explanation is the inside job/false flag scenario. This is extremely complex, since you have to identify the actors SPECIFICALLY, their motivation, AND how they created the alternative story.
So, if one was to investigate, the first part of the investigation is investigating incompetence, if there is more to the story, it will come out during a fair investigation of incompetence.
BUT, if you go after the inside job theory from the start, the investigation will founder, since you will constantly be following false leads, making rash assumptions, and will be generally disorganized. Worse, people will think you are crazy to suggest such an outrageous theory.
No one thinks that government incompetence is crazy, so this will have a much better chance of getting public backing, and if there is more corruption than just incompetence and a cover up, it will come out.
So, I suggest that the truth movement is throwing away its chance for a fair investigation, by pushing the inside job theory. Ironic how the people that most want the investigation are the very people that cause the investigation not to happen. , . . .

I think I should go down to the library and look at the back issues of Popular Mechanix and try and decide.
But I certainly won't be able to ascertain the facts about the events of 9/11 from the "mainstream" media. Indeed, the central questions are never asked in the propaganda matrix (aka "mainstream" media).
Rational people tend to agree that there is a singular truth to discernible reality.
That's not a theory, that is one basis for our reality. We human beings generally agree that we perceive the same physical reality, that we live on the planet Earth which is in orbit of a star that we call the Sun, that there is night and day and that the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. In the more temperate climates 4 distinct seasons can be observed. We acknowledge that rain is wet and the winter is colder than the summer. We know that plants and animals grow in the right conditions and that we need food, water, sleep and shelter to survive. We know that the original purpose of human sexuality is to procreate. These are a few of the things we know. I could go on, but you get my point.
So, what are people to do if they disagree with the government and the mass media's version of the truth? What are we to do about the North American Union? What are we to do about American Imperialism? What are we to do about the REAL ID? How would the Anti-Truth-League suggest that we deal with these issues? By not talking about them? Because, the War Party Government and the quote-mainstream media seem to maintain a code of silence on these matters. So are we to simply follow their lead and not question these things as well? What else is off limits? "Global warming"? A water-powered car reported by Reuters?
Is the cause of liberty the cause of political correctness? Who ya gonna believe, your own lying eyes, or Big Brother?

The Neocons did it, just as they stated they "needed" to do it in their PNAC document, only a year before they took power in all the top cabinet level positions and VP.
We may not have irrefutable proof, but the stench is so strong that it's unmistakable.
Whether it will ever be courtroom provable is another matter.
The rest is just details.
