Precious Metals BOMB?
Submitted by Katie on Sat, 06/28/2008 - 01:53
As I know, this idea will bring about pros and cons,. With that said, I have heard many replies from our fellow patriots on this forum that state, "If I could, I would buy Gold or Silver, but I can't afford it due to my mortgage, car payments, childrens needs , etc. I am just like many of you, and have been a supporter of Congressman Ron Paul even before his exploratory committee for President was concieved. I watched as many of our fellow patriots would donate the dire needed money to OUR Campaign and would preplan to eat vienna sausages and crackers for a week so that they could donate(.I like vienna sausages however, not for a week). I suppose what I am saying is.....What do you think about having a "Precious Metals BOMB"? Remember when we raised 8 million in 24 hours? We CAN do the same again(Or Close) and anyone who could donate say...$25 to $50 on a certain day would OWN Gold and or Silver! Also can you imagine what a HUGE GOLD/SILVER Money Bomb would actually say to the Federal Government about our flat currency, Not to mention how this would PROVE Ron Paul truly understands and knows of what he speaks concerning the useless fed! Now, my questions would be anywhere from ,where would we store this gold/silver?(Maybe at Dr. Pauls house..lol) as one can see...I am ready for the pros and cons. Thanks for any intellectual input.

You could store it at Fort Knox. I hear it is empty.
It's the housing crisis you know. Fort Knox went up for foreclosure because the American people didn't realize we were suppose to use Paper Money.
Good
If what you are suggesting is that Supporters of the C4L make a mass purchase of silver and gold for their own stash as a demonstration, I'm all for it. I doubt that it will do anything to metal prices because of the size of that market, but it WILL mean that my fellow patriots will be that much better able to survive the coming unpleasantness. And it actually COULD be staged as a media event. You could organized locally to descend in droves on a particular coin store at a specified time and alert the media. Line up outside the store waiting for a chance to get in to buy (they aren't going to let twenty or thirty of you in all at once). Carry signs denouncing fiat currency and the Fed. Ideally on a main street during rush hour.
Just might get some media play. Cause a "run".
The US economy is like an alcoholic - until it hits bottom it can't rebuild. So bring it on!
Chump change
First, it was $6 million that was raised for the campaign Dec. 16, 2007, but let's take your number. Eight million in gold/silver purchases within a 24-hour period would register hardly a blip on anyone's radar. On any given day, odds are several single buyers make purchases far exceeding that amount. I'm not saying it would not be a good move, just don't expect any media attention for it.

I agree with you that it
I agree with you that it might not gain any attention. But I have another problem with it...what if it did actually get attention? I have a big problem that this is described as a "message".
Let's just suppose that it did make waves....and that those waves were noticed by the right people. Great, message designed and delivered.
There's absolutely no guarantee that the message would be interpreted as intended. I'm almost certain that it would NOT. We all know what spin is...Spin is just another way of saying "opinions are like behinds...everyone has one", and more importantly OPINIONS VARY.
This thing has failure written all over it. If you're the president of the United States, and there's a one day blip on gold...what does it mean?
Hell it could mean, from the current administration's perspective, that "we need to pass legislation, eliminating these gold speculators"
take that.
simpleton's variation on a theme.
money bomb with the money going to a good cause = good
precious metals bomb with the proceeds going to the dealers and the buyers taking delivery = huh?
I don't think it's a good idea to give silver coins to the
campaign.
I think a more interesting idea is to pledge to buy one Silver Eagle and spend it on a certain date. In this way, I think that we can still make a statement that so many people chose to use real money on this date, instead of the freaking debt based USD. But, far more importantly in my opinion, you are likely introducing real money to someone who has never seen one before. I'm sure many people who receive a Silver Eagle will ask you questions about it and I think that this will be your chance to explain what's going on.
Imagine, for example, 30,000 new people get exposed to Silver Eagles on one day. I think many of these people will put their own paper $1 in the cash register and take the Silver Eagle home and think about it and research on it, and naturally, this movement will expand, in my opinion. Not only that, he or she is likely to talk to many people about this great luck he or she had and many of the people who heard about it might talk to more people, I think. I think this will be a great de-centralized way of spreading the word.
But, if people gave silver coins to the campaign, it's the same people who already know about gold and silver. They might try to publicize it, but it's the same ole centralized way that no one really cares about, in my opinon. I think it's so much better if new people get real silver coins in their hands.
Now, as far as I know, it is legal to spend Silver Eagle. If it is not legal, don't do it. I don't want anybody to do anything illegal. Please, check if this is legal or not on your own before you decide to do it and make your own decision.
But, having said all this, I still believe that it is extremely important to save enough USD since I believe that this debt based money system is like a double edged sowrd. In other words, in my opinion, because money is debt, more inflation means more debt obligation and it means greather deflationary problems sometime in the future, and I think we need USD in deflation, not because we like USD, but as an important part of tactics to survive, in my opinion.

I don't understand what you are suggesting.
If I had $20 to donate, why wouldn't I just buy an ounce of silver for myself? Is your suggestion that we just use precious metal for a fundraising bomb? Why? If Dr. Paul wanted that he could just convert the $5 million or so that he has into gold.
If we are going to do something like this we should all decide to buy gold and silver, then on a preplanned day we all double our holdings. This might be enough to cause a spike in prices which we could then unload on another specified day. This isn't legal, of course.

Interesting concept
Seems to me, the key would be purchase for possession, not purchase for paper.
I second this motion.

Ron Paul is becoming the de facto President of the United States.
Yeah! This Could Put REAL MONEY
In our fellow patriots pockets, Not to mention it would or could completely through off and surprise the FED! LOL!!!

We didn't raise 8 million in 24 hours,it was 6.If I was going to buy gold or silver,I would want to store it at my house.
Hi Wolfie
I asked for "Intellectual Input".
