Has anyone had a problem cashing a paycheck?
My daughter works for Best Buy and Friday when she went to cash her check there were no funds in their account to cash her check against. The bank manager had to make calls and "look in the background" of their bank files(dont know what that means) but he mentioned with all the businesses closing he had to be on the safe side. Could this be another indicator of the predicted collapse?

If you think cash is difficult try coins.
Try getting your check cashed for pennies and nickels, they are worth more than what it cost to mint them.

IF THIS HAPPENED IN A LARGE SCALE, IT
would be a liquidity dry up situation that I worry about. I am worried about deflation much more than hyper-inflation.

Don't depoit in the ATM for this reason
My wife deposited a check for $1,082 the otherday. A check drawn from a merchant that I have deposited hundreds of time. I called my contact guy at the bank and he told me that when deposits from Wells Fargo are done at the ATM everything gets sent to a central sorting facility, so they put a 7 day hold it. However if I would have used the drive up teller or come inside it would have cleared instantly. He also explained that in the old days banks would actually cover the check, but they are weening themselves from this practice. I dont blame any company for not wanting to spot someone a loan until a draft clears, but this also tells me that banks are running thin on cash, digits in the computer, whatever.
There is no money in the banks

I tried to get a portion of my retirement out of the bank. Let's just say that the bank, a large branch of Wells Fargo, did not have enough cash on hand to pay 200 people $1000.00 in cash.
It's all an illusion of money. You get your check or direct deposit and put it in your account and it is just numbers in a computer. You write a check or use a credit or debit card and the numbers move. There is no money involved.
When I wanted all of the money in cash, they said it would take over a week to get the money. They did offer me a cashiers check! Nice! I can't write checks I can't cash but the bank can! I called the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. They suggested that I check my "Account Disclosure Agreement". I got a copy and read the part about cash withdrawls.
If you want to read the most vague part of a banking contract I have ever seen, read this.
Wells Fargo:
"If you want to cash a check (or make a cash withdrawal) for a very large sum, the Bank may require 5 business days' advanced notice so that it can order the cash from its vault. The Bank may require that you provide adequate security but the Bank has no obligation to do so. The Bank may also require you to pick up the cash at the Bank's central vault or other location".
Bank Of America goes further and states:
We may require reasonable advanced notice for large cash withdrawals. We may also refuse to honor a request to withdraw funds in cash from your account or cash a check (including cashier's check or other official item) at a banking center if we believe the amount is unreasonably large or that honoring the request would cause us an undue hardship or security risk. We may require that such withdrawals be made at one of our cah vaults by an armored courier, acceptable to us and at your sole risk and expense. We are not responsible for providing security in such transactions".
They never say what a "very large withdrawl" is. I got $20,000 out on one visit and a friend of mine, on the same day, was only allowed to get $5,000 even though he had much more in the bank and had gotten more than that before. Bank of America says you can't have your money if we think you can't handle it.
When the mozilo hits the fan and the banks start to fail, how much will be considered a "large cash withdrawal"?
Be prepared!
As we all know in the Ron Paul campaign, the FED has long ago taken the wealth of America and replaced it with one-ply paper.
My daughter
tried to cash her Blockbusters paycheck out right (not put it into her acct) and they wouldn't cash it because SHE did not have enough $$$ in her acct. She told them, HEY this is BLOCKBUSTER, they've got the funds...it's not going to bounce. They told her that they have had forged and/or counterfeit checks come through their bank from big box retailers and they are just playing it safe.
My daughter
oops doublepost
Wow, this
is depressing. Afraid this is just the beginning of such things. Peace
Maybe the bank person meant
Maybe the bank person meant there were no funds in her account? Could just be they are being more cautious about bad checks?
no, she doesn't bank with them

The big boxes are falling
There was an article on this site not too long ago about all the recent bankruptcies from the big box retailers.
