This was a great presentation. I have had the good fortune to know both Iraqi and Iranian people who have moved to our country. One was a decent man, the other was a good man. (Which is a lot more than can be said for some fellow citizens that have been born here. Bush I am not going to mention any names.)

My roomate went to Iran
2 years ago. He stayed with young people in their appartment. and they told him that they give 3 years max to the regime of the mollhas. every body fed up with with these people . Your are talking about a country where the majority of the people is under 30 or something. but they also toild him that if they were attacked by a foreign country they rank behind the power.

it's just my opinion, but i think you could easily put "United States government" in place of Iran in that second paragraph and it would make more sense.

On Iran, Iraq (before war) and Venezuala/Chavez. All places I would love to visit. Iran has some of the best skiing in the world.We are lied to so much. I've tried to talk to some people about these places and they get mad and wo'nt even watch the documentaries I tell them about. There is a really good one on Chavez. Sorry I'm no good at giving links but it's on youtube now. Cats Stevens is on of my favorites. I have 3 of his cds Thanks for the post :) I hope we do'nt ruin another beautiful country. :(

Remember
Governments are people too. We need to be careful to understand what depths of depravity people are capable of. While it is nice to think that people are generally good, we do not really see the character of a people until they are put under hardship. This is why the "Greatest Generation" was considered such because of the hardships they endured with dignity and character in the Great Depression (actually, I think the greatest generation were their parents -- the ones who actually saw their children through those dark days and instilled the strong values in them).
I fear for our nation when I consider the character seen in the wake of Katrina -- not in the relief and aid that poured in from around the county but the lack of compassion seen in the victims themselves. When faced with hardship, they collapsed into greed and vice. It is easy to be compassionate when you yourself are untouched by trouble. It is a different thing when you yourself are feeling pain and need to make choices in how to deal with your neighbor.
We need to all search our souls and prepare for the dark times ahead so that our succeeding generations can look back us and say that we too were "great".

Governments are not people, but collections of people. People as groups can do much much more immoral things and even convince each other that taking steps toward more immorality is a good thing. The Constitution was based on controlling this natural human nature. I personally believe that a society based on collectivism is devolving, our country is a good example of this. Soon we will all be worker bees in this hive if we don't fight for our right to think on our own.

I can't let that statement stand without challenge
You say Iran's leadership is bent on a Final Solution to the Israel problem, that they are war-mongers. I have seen and heard from thier president that he doesn't want war with anyone, and believes that the only solution to the Middle East crisis is democracy and self rule. The man never said he wanted to wipe Israel off the map. I'm not saying I'm a big Iran-fan, but considering the BS they have had to put up with - the US and Israel meddling in their internal affairs, sanctions that could easily be interpreted as acts of war, it would be easier to argue they are pretty committed to peace.
The MSM echoes the Bush propaganda lines enough on TV, please don't repeat that crap here. There is no reason for the US to attack Iran any more than there was a reason for us to attack Iraq. No reason except Bush's war industry cronies sucking down another trillion tax dollars. And the bankers earning nice interest financing it all .. can't forget that part.

with Iran, I also agree that we meddle too much in the affairs in the Middle East, especially by telling Israel who she may or may not negotiate with. Israel, on the other hand, is in the Middle East, and therefore should have some say as to whether they are allowed to continue to exist or not! The problem with the Iranian leader's words, I guess, is that they left the right-wing in Israel a wide range of interpretations by which those words could be interpreted. Given the history of groups like Hamas and Fatah carrying out threats, and claiming responsibility for homicide bombings, I understand Israel's skittishness at the concept of Iranian nuclear weapons.
