RUN-IN WITH THE ATLANTA GESTAPO!
I was at a job interview in downtown Atlanta, and when I was leaving I went down a one-way to get to the interstate. The street is called Peachtree Place or something, but it doesn't really matter. It's a tiny street with two stop signs, and it's in a nicer area of town.
So I'm driving down this little side street and there's tons of traffic. When I get up to the first stop sign I see that there are 10. YES 10 police cars parked on all four sides of the intersection. There had to be at least 13 police officers there. Some of them were stopping the cars that came into the intersection, but most of them were just standing there, staring at everyone who drove by.
So, I got up to the stop sign and this woman police officer said:
"I need to see your license, I'm gonna check your tags."
She walked around to the back of my car and made sure that I had a license plate, and then came back to my window and looked at my drivers license.
"What is this for?" I asked politely.
"It's a checkpoint." She snarled.
"Why?" I asked again.
AND THEN....these are her exact words....
"Waist of time!" She said with a shrug.
So, can anyone tell me why 13 of our Atlanta police officers are not out DOING THEIR JOBS, but instead waisting time by harassing random drivers who haven't committed any crime? I thought we were the country that didn't do that stuff. I've heard rumors about this happening in other parts of the country, but nothing here in Georgia, before today. This was a major wake up call. We are headed down the drain, and fast.
But the worst part, is that I don't know what to do about it. Is there anyone to call who will care? Probably not. Will our elected officials give a damn about this kind of draconian behavior? No they probably won't.
What are we going to do about this stuff? It isn't American and I'm ashamed to call those police officers my fellow countryman. They don't deserve the Constitution they are turning their backs on.
I found videos of this happening in other parts of the country as well.

Next time you see these checkpoints anywhere
Give the officers a pocket constitution.

Same thing happened to me
last week, was coming across the state line into Missouri from Kentucky about 12:00 pm and came up to what I thought was a wreck, and then I realized it was a police check point. There were about 10 cops and they had all thier cars made into a semi baracade, they were all fairly young and were standing around laughing and staring and shining thier flashlights at my vechicle.. Some had there heads shaved. One cop walked up to my vehicle and asked for my license and registration. Looked it over and told me I was "free to go" after he shined his flashlight into my purse. They are gearing up for folks and it's happening all across the country. My guess is September. The shit will probably hit the fan then. They have all the bankruptcy laws laid out. They have all the laws in place for the dictatorship. They have brainwashed the masses. I mean how do you handle 300 million PO people with no purchasing power to thier currency and they wake up to find out they are really not free?
"I know you are trying to do your job, officer"
"am i being detained? am I free to go?"
:-)
A flyer with what is and is not legal at US checkpoints...
would be useful.. for drivers everywhere?
I am a lawyer here in Canada and I know what to say and what not to say and when not to roll down my window. I know my rights.
The public deserves to know their rights, now.
Boy could we ever use a lawyer !!!!
Do you have these check point in Canada now ??
I have not heard of any....yet.
Edit:
I am about to drive across country with a lot of signs on my car, so I suppose I might find them if they are out there.
There are American attorneys on this site. Maybe one wants to come forward and volunteer. Good advice above from pdubya, but you might want to know a litle more.
Thanks
Have a good trip !
they are getting you
they are getting you mentally conditioned for when they start this stuff all out!
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
Its funny you posted this
I went shopping in the next town about 30 miles away where my parents live the other day. Same type scenario, Cars backed up for miles on both sides of the road and two cop cars on each side with troopers in the road checking inspection stickers and registration in the window. This is starting to happen as a routine and its a 50/50 chance you will hit one of these road blocks. These troopers are fairly unpleasant and in fact asked what I was doing (middle of the afternoon).
I am so furious with these I am about to make the evening news when they drag me off in handcuffs !!!!
There is no way these are legal !!!!! I felt sorry for the people pulled over that had the misfortune of not having everything "in order". They looked like they could ill afford the imminent ticket/tickets for what ever.
Back in 1990 the US Supreme
Back in 1990 the US Supreme Court ruled that sobriety checkpoints are legal. Was this a sobriety checkpoint?
I'm quite skeptical as to whether or not a checkpoint for the purpose of checking your papers is legal.
Here's a site detailing the guidelines for sobriety checkpoints: http://www.duicheckpoints... I'm not sure how this might apply to the checkpoint you went through.
And another site detailing in which states sobriety checkpoints are legal/illegal: http://www.iihs.org/laws/...
Although this would deserve further research, at this point it seems to me that it's legal to stop people for the purpose of sobriety checks in most states but I have doubts as to whether it is also legal to stop people at checkpoints simply to check their documents.
The purpose of a check point is to...
raise funds for the city or county, through tickets, court costs, and legal fees, plain and simple. If they HAPPEN to catch a real "criminal" it's like a freebee.

At least she agreed
that it was a WASTE of time
(notice the spelling; "waist" is your mid-section; "waste" is something, such as steam, that escapes without being used).
It's Ok
I think 99.9% of us figured it to be a waste of time. I mipell too sometimes. I just love everything about DP, it's my home :-)

Haven't Given This Activity Much Attention
until recently as a result of being here on this site.
... ... ...
But, years ago, 20 +, I went down a one-way and the Police stopped me and told me about it, I think some were under-cover (detectives maybe), or at the least, in unmarked vehicles.
Don't remember all the details cause I was drunk, night time, etc. They told me I was goin' down a one-way and scooted me back in the right direction.
Conclusion: they must have been looking for someone.
