Oddly enough,
Cancer is the one thing that big pharma CAN afford to cure, because even if you cure it in a single person, eventually someone else will get it, because cancer is an inevitability of individual cell's genetic fragility.
What we should really be worrying about big pharma is bugs, like bacteria. There's no money in antibiotics. Also, they like to work on genetic disorders because you exchange life for money by accident of birth; as long as you don't cure the genetic disorder. Instead, keep you on a maintenance drug...

Diabolical treatments
at that. I think the cancer is more welcome than some of the treatments. To the point of 'Why bother'? And you can bet, if an honest man found a cure and wanted to share it with the world cheaply, the FDA would never approve it, no matter how safe it was. Then we all know three weeks later, that same guy would amazingly turn up dead, or missing, with all of his data and experiments coincidentally missing, or destroyed.
Go figure...
