How will you transport goods after the crash?

Trying to imagine life during major interruptions of heating and automotive fuels I knew that it might be necessary to go shopping/scrounging on foot or bicycle for food and fuel and survival could very well depend on how much I could carry. In no time I had convinced myself that a big-wheeled garden cart would be a very valuable survival tool.

I looked online to see what was available and for how much. I could buy a small, flimsy cart in kit form for $99 plus shipping or I could pay twice or three times that much for a larger but still pretty flimsy one. Then I ran across the Whizbang garden cart site that sold a set of plans to make a really sturdy cart for less money. I didn't buy the plans but I did decide to build my own cart, a really, really sturdy one that will stand up to years of heavy use lugging firewood, boulders, compost, soil, garden produce, furniture, heavy auto parts, etc.

I feel so good about owning this post-apocalyptic conveyance that I'm set on making several more to sell. Depending on how they move I may invest in parts for 50 carts and run a part-time cart factory in my garage. I expect I would see some of them again if things progress from bad to worse. They'll show up at the impromptu open-air markets that will spring up when the shopping centers go dark.

I have a cart that came with my ride mower. I now am looking at getting a 3 wheel bike that can pull it.

you're right

I always imagined myself walking in times of disruption, but since I read your post a couple of days ago, you're right! I want a working bike and a cart or trailer for it. It would need to be strong enough to carry a good load of wood. Down the street there's a bike recycling shop - I'm stopping in! Thanks.

I need fishing gear too...

Your cart looks

great. You should get a picture with a person standing next to it for size comparison. I was thinking about getting a rickshaw and starting a taxi service. How about making dog and pony carts too. Carts for all occasions.
Fancy carts for wedding parties, real long ones to hold the whole wedding party. LOL How about small carts that could be pulled by scooters? I was looking to get a used childs cart that goes on the back of a bicycle to haul groceries. Good luck, I think your on the right track. Peace

I always get a chuckle out of your posts. thank you!

I bought materials and ordered wheels today.

July 4th is cart-building day. I've decided to make two sizes: a 19-ft3 box and a 12-ft3 box. I'll chain them up out front with a For Sale sign.

After the crash???

With a gun or a bat.

Or perhaps you can just wait for goods to come your way and loot like everyone else. Run with the herd and share in the spoils???

You need a deep-cycle battery bank

and various components to regulate the charging and conversion to AC power.

I plan to buy the battery setup before I move to Ecuador, that is IF I move to Ecuador and am not blocked from "fleeing."

on my scooter...
