Utterly Stupid Question For Daily Paulers
I've gotten some great information re other subjects on here before, so I thought I'd give it a try again. My question is this:
I have an old computer which I'm throwing out. I want to remove the hard drive before I do, for obvious reasons.
a) How do I do this?
b) What does a hard drive even look like?
Sorry for the dopey question, but all I know about computers is how to create documents, store stuff, and go on the internet, lol
Thanks.

I'm guessing you have the top secret files on how the Liberty Campaign elects Ron Paul, impeaches George Bush, resists U.N. soldiers the NWO, etc. etc.
Just a note, the only way to be really sure none your hard drive data is retrievable is to physically destroy the disk platters inside. Don't worry about magnets as you probably won't have one strong enough, and formatting can leave crumbs for special sniffing software. Just drill through it a few times.

I'll try to help
Once you get the cover off of your computer, you'll see the motherboard and a bunch of cables connecting the motherboard to everything else. The motherboard is the large flat (probably greenish or brown) circuit board. Coming off of it, you should see a wide and flat grey cable. There's probably one going to your CD drive. If you look up around where the CD drive is mounted, you'll probably see a smaller device mounted in one of the 3.5" bays that is also connected to your motherboard via one of those same wide, flat cables (it might actually be on the same one as your CD drive). If you find a device that is connected to one of those cables but doesn't have any sort of external interface, congratulations, you just found your hard drive!
You'll probably need to unscrew a few phillips head screws, pop the ribbon cable off (also called an IDE cable), and unplug the 4-pin power supply. That's it.
Here's a picture of a hard drive to give you an idea what you're looking for:
