I can't even convince my family of what is going on...
I just spent the afternoon at a July 4th party at my dad's house. A few days ago, I sent my brothers and sisters an e-mail linking to Ron Paul's "Something Big is Going On" message, plus a message from Peter Schiff about the "Worst-Case Scenario." I also sent my dad RP's Manifesto book last month. My dad (76), an intelligent Penn graduate, pulled me aside and talked to me for 30 minutes, showing me his investment plan (stocks and bonds). He said I worried too much and I shouldn't have taken my 401K money out of the stock market. He said the market is cyclical and I shouldn't try to time it. I said I wasn't trying to time it, I just wanted out during this turmoil. And I said that I agreed the the market is cyclical, but this is a megacycle event coming up. The bear market of the 1970s lasted a long time, and I expect this one to last even longer. (Maybe more like the 30s, but I didn't say that because I knew what his reaction would have been.)
He told me that he read a book in the early 80s called "Crisis Investing" by Douglas Casey (which he just gave me) in which the author cried, "The sky is falling," just before the largest run-up of the stock market in recent memory. I told him that the conditions are a lot different (worse) than they were back then. My dad is afraid that if I keep my money on the sidelines, I will miss the next upward burst in the market. He is correct that these bursts are swift and unexpected (just like the downturns); I just don't see any upward bursts coming for several years.
Anyway, I think my family now sees me as a bit wacky with this RP stuff, even though I've been known as a calm, level-headed, somewhat boring guy all my life. I have failed to convince any of them of Ron Paul's wisdom, or even to consider parts of his message. I wanted them to protect their assets from the coming storm, and eventually to support the defense of the constitution. I admit that I have never been much of a salesman, but I can see why those of us promoting Ron Paul's message have a hard time converting a majority of Americans. I can't even convince my family.

Americans have been asleep for a long time.
And it started in 1789 when the unconstitutional Constitution was created. Not only do we have the right to secede, but we also have the right to be represented directly.

unconstitutional
unconstitutional Constitution is an oxymoron
Your father
is more intelligent than most, so the difficulty there is convincing him that something very unusual is happening, the destruction of the currency.
But for many sheeple (one of the managers who works for me is a typical nice, hard-working politically clueless person), a broader tactic is called for.
I just put this together, the first of 3 to come. It's meant to pique interest.

You should put out a companion video of..........
.
....a tour of the photos which are standing behind you of your family, etc.
We want to know who all those people are.
But great video. However, you failed to mention that the strikes after 9/11 should have been done on the guilty parties here in America - not overseas.

Thank you..
This is the type of information we need to educate the masses,
You are a True Patriot!
And that comment you left on YouTube
was great, thanks much Felix. I'm going to see if I can get a thread floating here as quiltingsando suggested.
There are millions of people who know in their hearts that McCain and Obama offer no solutions for them. And, guess what, those millions have families they love. Broad messages that hit home can pave the way for us, it's been my experience for many years.
Thanks again.

Wow, what a beautiful
simple straight forward video. You should make your own thread for this. Michael should put this on the front page. To bad you didn't run against Barr I would have considered voting libertarian then. Peace
That's a nice compliment
coming from you qs, thanks. Think I will start a thread on it.

The 10-Minute Patriot
Although my immediate family is on board with the R3VOLUTION, I was afraid of the reaction I might get from my extended family and friends if I dumped the whole RP message on them at once. It can easily overwhelm the average liberal or neo-con. At the same time I was interested in doing something with all this great information that comes across my hard drive by way of the DP and RP meetup e-mails. This led me to start an e-mail newsletter that I call "The 10-Minute Patriot". It's designed for my friends who, for whatever reason, are either misinformed or simply out-of-the-loop on political issues.
I want to give them a quick and easy way to become educated on a current topic along with a template for a letter they can use to contact their legislators regarding pertinent legislation. Most of what is in the "The 10-Minute Patriot" will not be news to Paulites but could be useful for disseminating to friends and family members.
I've published two issues so far: One on the NAU and one on the FED. If anyone would like to be on my mailing list, please contact me through the DP.
If it's any consolation
you're not alone. The only one in my family who really warmed up to Ron Paul's message is my little brother, and that happened independently of me. I had no luck at all with anyone on either mine or my husband's side of the family.
You did as much as you could
It's up to everyone to inform themselves and commit. We can't do that for other people, no matter how much we love them. It's like the Ayn Rand saying, "you can lay down your life and die for someone, but you can't live for them."
They drive me nuts!
My older sister insist I must vote for Mccain. I ask her what polocies of his impress you? Educate me on them. Her reply "I'm not going to talk polotics with you!" I asked her. "Please tell what he will do for our country. What are some of his stances on the war?" She replies "I'm not going to discuss it with you" I say."If you want me to vote for him I need to know more about him. Where did you get your information?" She says" I do'nt have time to look these things up you just need to be smart and vote for Mccain! I have to go you listen to what I tell you!" I say"But you did'nt tell me anything" She says " Gotta go. Bye " Whaaat??? My other sister says, 'We are doing the christain thing by having all these wars to help these countries that need us". Iran needs us? She says."Well they have a bomb and they could hurt others" We have bombs and there is no proof they do. Do'nt you watch the news?" Even Bush says might, could,ect.. not do. She says. Well you ca'nt just wait to find out" They been inspected 9 times without forknowledge and have been in no violation." but they know how to do it" Alot of ather countries already have them. " Well there is nothing we can do about that. Iran does'nt like Isreal and we have to protect the holy land." The holy land has plenty of nukes. silence
Pretty much the same here
My dad was the peace loving hippie type, and now he supports Bush because he's going to make us all safe from those dreaded terrorist hiding under our bed. Of course he's the same jackass that is freaking out over the salmonella EPIDEMIC, that has hit close to .015 % of the population. What a laugh these folks are. They were awake and taking on the current issues at one time, and now they're all fat, happy, and addicted to Fox and the rest of MSM that keeps telling them that we're all crazy for questioning our fearless (fearmongering) leaders in Washington.
On the other hand my ex-wife tells my kids (highly active with the freedom movement at the ages of 15 and 12) that I'm trying to brainwash them into my way of life and that everything is fine, that it's all in my head. The good thing is that my kids are smarter than she is by a long shot. She DEPENDS on Oprah, Dr. Phil, and Nancy Grace to tell her how to live, it's sickening. Either way, when the SHTF my kids will have their bellies full and a place to live, and the ex will be a world of hurt with the other naysayers and backbiters.
We have bought 40 acres to start homesteading and a lot of our family is moving out into some houses that the property already has. The rule is, you come out, then you help with the work. If you ridicule us for trying to get back to basics and get MSM out of our lives, the gate is forever closed. It seems rough, but we're going to have to decide who to help through this crisis, and it's not going to be a bunch of brain-washed sheeple who couldn't see the forest for the trees in my camp.
P.S. I absolutely can't wait to close on the land and hang my "Don't tread on me" flag. It is absolutely my favorite of all our flags.
thank you for this post
your story should be front page.
Jesus said to be like children...your kids are like that pure wisdom.
That's awesome
that your kids have outsmarted their mother. Nancy Grace?! Tell mom to shove it.
When your family and friends are still clueless about politics
say to your family member/friend:
"OK. I see we have very different opinions on this. I want you to do me a favour. Remember we had this conversation. REMEMBER WHAT I SAID."
They will probably look at you like you are nuts. But it is still worth doing. Get them to summarise your views to see if they understand what you are saying. Leave it at that.
I tried this very simple technique on people in 2003, when US forces pulled down statues of Saddam Hussein, Dubya landed on the aircraft carrier and the British media lampooned "Comical Ali" - the Iraqi general who predicted disaster for the invaders.
I was still a lefty at the time, but I had enough common sense to realise that if a country is not already occupied by a foreign power, the natives get REALLY pissed off when you invade. I had also watched enough of the History Channel to understand the concept of asymmetric warfare.
I told my friends and family that Comical Ali wasn't even remotely funny. That he was absolutely correct in predicting disaster for the invaders. Of course, they all thought I needed medicating. But I told them to remember what I had said.
The rest is history, of course. I soon became their wise oracle for all things political :-)
Of course, now you can be a soothsayer too.
-"Ron Paul cured me of my predilection for Che Guevara T shirts."
lol
"Ron Paul cured me of my predilection for Che Guevara T shirts."
Get a Samuel Adams T-shirt he was far more radical than Che Guevara could have evened hoped to be.
Most do not know but it was Samuel Adams who instigated much of the revolutionary atmosphere in Boston. He was behind many a burning efigee and the ransacking and burning down of Governor Hutchinson's manor.
Well since I converted from Communism to Conservatism...
I should really be wearing shirts and sweater-vests instead of t-shirts now ;-)
-"Ron Paul cured me of my predilection for Che Guevara T shirts."
Thank God, my family thinks
Thank God, my family thinks I am wise. I waited till I had accumulated some very good videos and then I opened my subject...they got it immediately. They are now trying to enlighten people they work with. They get the blank look...and don't understand why. I tell them keep 'tapping'..no sledgehammers..just tap. Enough taps and the dots begin to converge.
It's astonishing to see the
It's astonishing to see the enormity of the state of denial in which most Americans live. Last week I went to see my in-laws and their family in Maine. They're all pretty reasonable, intelligent, people and talk politics fairly often. The discouraging thing to me was that while they could understand some of the financial ideas presented by Dr. Paul, they could NOT get past the idea of the 'danger from terrorists' and that we need to 'win the war' in Iraq, the 'danger from Iran' etc. It's like "standing knee deep in a river and dying of thirst" trying to talk with people who are still under the spell of the MSM. That's one reason I continue to try to educate people about 9/11 and why I support 9/11 truth. I believe that revealing 9/11 in all of its inside job glory is the best way to shake people out of their political coma, and start them on the road to understanding why we're where we are, and how to change it.

thanks
I just aliented myself from my ex in-laws, feels good
I have remained nice and polite for 20 years since their daughter turned to drugs after only 6 months of marriage and a baby. So knowing that she was the looser always makes me feel better, and I assume pisses off the ex in-laws, plus I raised a beautiful little girl who is now a NAVY Airmen.
Anyhow, we have been on each others email list for years, jokes, prayers messages, the usual email crap. Obviously my email format has changed, I try to send 1-2 articles a day from the DP or Patrick.net (housing site) just letting people know whats up.
So yesterday I sent my "Independance Day" email to everyone. The ex mother in-law responds, "lighten up, you are taking politics way to seriuosly", well apparently my response was harsh and offensive, she asked to be removed from this list, only after she told me what a hard core Republican she was,
So naturally I attacked her "Hardcore Republican, I'm watch Fox with my blinders on" mentality. It was just informative stuff, but at the end i said it doesnt really matter I guess, "YOUR OFF THE LIST!"
They have all of their money in 401k retirement plans, I love it!
"Hard Core" Republican?
At eighteen I joined the Republican Party and the U. S. Army. My first Commmander in Chief was Ronald Reagan - I am a hard core Republican.
Your ex mother in law is in fact a Trotskyite Communist aka Nonconservative.
Ron Paul is a hard core Republican!
William Taft was a hard core Republican!
I make it my personal mission to inform anyone who claims to be a neocon or a Bush backer that they are in fact Communists. If they want to support communist political philosophies they should be required to were the colors.
yeah its hard same here...I
yeah its hard same here...I guess showing them some ron paul speeches videos might do the trick.. though my parents don't have a dvd..so might have to buy em one..
"the author cried, "The sky
"the author cried, "The sky is falling," just before the largest run-up of the stock market in recent memory"
It goes both ways. This is the perfect response:
http://www.gold-eagle.com...
I had the same thing occur
American's shall remain willfully ignorant until someone slaps them in the face like on 9/11. Then they'll dig in and be even more ignorant. I actually can't wait for the crash to occur so that all these ignorant people can start nibbling on a rather large slice of humble pie.
The red pill
It's human nature. The system has worked for some people so they see no problem. Many retirees and older folks have good pensions, Social Security, accumulated wealth and they think things are hunky dory in the good old USA. It doesn't matter to them that younger folks are at the bottom of the SS pyramid scheme or that we are now supposed to be fighting endless war. They've got theirs. I have relatives who think the same way. They don't see a problem. People don't care until their toes have been stepped on, some issue dear to their hearts is affected. For me it was my kids and the government brainwashing gulag ("public schools"). For my husband it is gun rights. When the economy tanks and your dad starts losing money he will change his tune.
Persistence
Keep hitting them with confirmed facts that back up your assertions. This is what I have been doing and it is working...slowly but surely.
About the next stock market upswing
When he says stock market upswing I think he might be talking about the next bubble. Bubbles are bad. They're artificial and you can lose a lot of money that way. The next bubble is going to be a commodities bubble created by the federal reserve.
----------
"We will never give up. We will never give in." - Dr. Ron Paul
Have to disagree about the next bubble
the next bubble is here and it is also thanks to the FED. This asset bubble is the Federal Reserve Note, and it is picking up speed in its devaluation. Just think of it as deflation of the dollar.
Be patient and never give up
Live your beliefs and prepare as best you can. The many posts below are all helpful but Sandra and Habit4ming have some particularly good advice.
And remember:
But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

Read this essay on the long
Read this essay on the long valuation wave. It predicts a sideways to down movement in the stock markets for the next 10-15 years. This same pattern has repeated 3 times in the last 100 years.
http://www.zealllc.com/20...
That Zeallic essay was really good
I like his comment: "The common Wall Street perma-bull buy-and-hold propaganda today that the markets can’t be timed is true in the precise sense, but an absolute lie in the general sense." That what I was trying to explain to my dad. My dad doesn't have 20 years to wait out the next bear market.
I agree...
worth the read.
My family thinks I'm nuts
My family thinks I'm nuts and when I point out something that backs my nuttiness they call me a smartass.
Anyway, I don't think you need to pull all your money out of the market. Send it to Schiff. In a market crash wealth is not lost it is transfered. You just need to position your self to be on the receiving end of the transfer.

Not everyone is going to be aware at the same time. I myself have had to travel the path in my own time. Your relatives will have to follow theirs.
I guess I am really lucky.
Most of my family is wide awake
and ready to rock and roll! One even became a national Ron Paul delegate and is now running for an office, all within a short
period of time of learning about
him and what is really going on
in this country. But friends have been another matter, much harder
to wake up!
My immediate family ALL awake...and have been since early 70s

I was lucky enough to have a dad who was a member of the John Birch Society.
They were the ONLY organization back in the 60s-70s talking about the New World Order and the Constitution.
If any of you have a bad taste in your mouth regarding the John Birch Society, I just ask you to think about how the media has tried to smear Ron Paul, and then ask yourself if that's also the case with the John Birch Society.

I cherish the John Birch Society
I have the "Americanism" viseo in my email signature. I posted it on a forum as a must video. One guy comes back to me with his wiki comments and said John Birch Society has labeled FDR as a horrible President. I responded, "and your point is". Next came the history lesson of facts, not fiction.
I have the support of my wife and few friends, but everyone else I try to reach thinks I am a fruit loop. As long as they have a job, their ATM card works, Starbucks is still serving $5 coffee, then the world is fine.
I tell them jobs are being lost by thousands every day, banks are placing holds on checks like never before, banks are going bust, 600 Starbucks just closed their doors, and the world is in the largest uproar since time began.
But I guess if NASCAR and American Idol are still coming through the TV the world is normal. I just choose not to be normal.
Racetime23 I agree.
There are so many days I just want to give up.
It's the peacenik, unpatriotic, anti-military comments that really bother me.
Today I have decided to drop my 2-5 emails per person, per day, down to 0. (9 months is long enough). God is going to have to open their hearts and minds to the truth. I planted all of the seeds I can plant.
But, if they do ask what happened to all of my daily bombardments ....my reply will be, "I can't talk about it" or "I am not allowed to talk about it". I will not expound. It will be a mystery that may get their attention. I will tell them they have to find out on their own.
I have nothing to lose at this point, and it may salvage the family relationships.
I just realized the Bible states that in the end times some family members will turn on each other.
A deafening Silence may now be the key to unlocking my family's door to the truth; as the world crumbles around them.
Don't get me wrong, I will be as active as ever in the Campaign for Liberty.. It's just that my family and friend strategy has changed. Now we will talk about the weather and ????? (yawn). At least now, I will be invited to a BBQ or two. ;0)
I think selling Ron Paul
I think selling Ron Paul with financial doom and gloom isn't effective.
You have to "crack the nut" first
The only way to break thru denial is to let them "see" something that makes the "light come on" in their head.
For different people, it's different kinds of things.
Once it starts to eat at their curiosity, and they start thinking, "Well, that's true, and if they'd do that, maybe there really IS something to the rest of this stuff".
It's just like most all of us went thru.
We didn't start off knowing all that we see and know today.
It's a process, but it has to start with something that gets them thinking.
My mother was in total denial for a long time, but she is starting to come around after I've worked on her for 30 years.
Also, for people who are sort of older, like your 76 year old dad, and also my 76 year old mom, they have lived in this system and become accustomed to it for their whole long lives, and they are often thinking, "Even if it is going bad, I only have to hang on for a few more years, and then I'll be gone anyway."
They want to feel like their last few years are not going to be in turmoil, so they really don't want to see anything change that might jeopardize their last years in relative comfort. And even if they do begin to see it, they often just hope it won't get too bad before they check out..
what i tell my family:
The troops support Dr. Paul as shown by the U.S Army, Navy and Air Force being the top three contributors to his campaign while all the other candidates from both parties are supported by Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers.
An Obama supporter recently said if Paul gets in office the robber barons would really win. My response: Then why aren't the robber barons paying 100 million like the other candidates? (and if someone is smart I explain the robber barons already won as we're living under the FED).
If they ask about 9/11 truth I mention MSNBC reported at least 935 lies the Bush Administration gave for going to war in Iraq, whats one more? I also mention the thousands of 9/11 first responders not getting medical treatment. If you want proof please download and burn the video here: www.prisonplanet.tv-it's a great movie and a real eye opener for non-believers.
I've found full honesty is not always the best bet
I go through a tiered regiment of opening up people's eyes, I never tell them exactly what I believe from the start. Like with my sister who once loved George Bush and was your typical neo-con, I started off just showing how Ron Paul followed a true Republican path. I distanced myself from the Iraq war, saying that Paul had an interesting alternative idea and said I believed Bush was a good guy but he wasn't following a Republican path. Now she's anti-war, semi-anti-bush, and she voted for Paul.

Family members often have too much history
of struggles for recognition, independence, dominance to follow another member's advice or warning.
I was gratified a couple months ago when one of my brothers emailed me to ask my advice on preserving bulk storage foods. He and my other brother were planning a bulk food purchase.
Isn't it frustrating
It seems like we just can't find the right words to convince people that we know what we are talking about. So we send all kinds of information and expect the next time we see them for them to say, "Thanks for sending that video. Now I see the light." But no. Next time we see them, they are the very same. If I dare bring up the subject, I get "looks." So now if I want to bring something up, I tease about it. That is the only way they will hear anything at all. I have to tease them. I have to laugh about it. I have to exaggerate. Funny thing is though. One of them has started jumping out ahead of me and telling me I need to prepare MORE!! Victory in one small corner of my life.
Even if you are not an David
Even if you are not an David Icke or Alex Jones fan I highly recommend listening to the interview Alex did with him yesterday. David does a very good job of explaining why intelligent people such as your dad (and mine as well) can't seem to get this info. This interview was one of the best David Icke commentaries I've heard. For once there was no over the top sensationalism and I found it extremely hopeful. So if you don't like Icke open your mind and listen. This will help you understand your dad better. As for our families and for finding a solution to helping them I'm just doing my best to stash away commodities and will share when necessary. BTW my husband and I have been taking about this stuff for 7-8 yrs, our family and friends is FINALLY starting to see we're not nuts and they are really asking questions. Don't give up unless they scream at you to stop. They just don't know that they need to know.
I feel your pain
Thanks for all you do. Keep up the good work and stay the course.

Same here....
I want them to be prepared for harder times so they won't be a burden on those of us in my family that are preparing. My grandmother told me stories of her uncles trying to convince her father that things were going down fast in the 20's. When it did he had to go to them for help because he didn't own his property outright. Luckily he was given the opportunity to make much lower payments for longer. There was nothing they could do because everyone that failed to prepare converged on them like a life raft and they could only help take care of their parents.
The family problems is what I fear. I don't want them to drag us down because of their "foolish bridesmaid" attitude.
