Dr. Rand Paul on State Government Budgets
Here is Rand Paul's contribution to a discussion about Kentucky's state budget, broadcast 6/30/2008 on Kentucky Tonight. Rand is the chair of Kentucky Taxpayers United.
A big thanks to Minnesota Chris for editing this and getting it uploaded to YouTube.
Part II below:

Amazing. He's doing this movement proud
I've only heard Rand speak briefly before and this is the first time I've heard him in depth. He completely has the concepts of liberty down pat. There's lots of people who know these concepts, but Rand actually has that other quality which is that he can voice his ideas without creating new enemies. There are very few people capable of doing that. He definitely has that other part of the equation that made his father so successful. This movement is getting stoked with more ammunition daily.
Rand Paul will follow in his fathers footsteps?
My daughter had the opportunity to ask him this question in person at Atlanta Rally...he said yes....He definitely will!
The Salvation Army
United States
Opposition to hiring homosexuals
The Salvation Army in the U.S. has been the topic of many controversial discussions about discrimination against homosexuals in their hiring practices.[5] According to The Advocate, the Bush administration was "willing to do whatever it takes to perpetuate, support, and defend discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered individuals" in exchange for The Salvation Army's lobby support for Faith-Based Initiatives. The Advocate characterized it as a "secret arrangement."[6] The New York Times reported that the Salvation Army believed it had a firm commitment from the White House to issue a regulation that would override local antidiscrimination laws. A disclosure of The Salvation Army's request "outraged some civil rights groups and lawmakers," and resulted in an immediate reversal of a previous promise to honor the request.[7]
The Salvation Army's position is that because it is a church, Section VII of the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964 explicitly guarantees its rights to be particular in its hiring. To reinforce its positions, it threatened to close all soup kitchens in New York City when the city government propose legislation that would require all organizations doing business with the City government to provide domestic partner benefits.[8]

The Ron Paul FREEDOM PRINCIPLES
* Rights belong to individuals, not groups.
* Property should be owned by people, not government.
* All voluntary associations should be permissible -- economic and social.
* The government's monetary role is to maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not participate in fraud.
* Government exists to protect liberty, not to redistribute wealth or to grant special privileges.
* The lives and actions of people are their own responsibility, not the government's.

I'm cool with editing, but I
I'm cool with editing, but I don't want to just hear my own viewpoint. I want to see the interaction between various viewpoints, to, you know, see how ours is doing compared to theirs...
This is an interesting link
regarding state gov't budgets and things that are hidden from us.

WOW
Those other people never got a word in........Just lidding, nice editing. Thank you! And Rand definately is a chip off the old block.
Chip off the old block
It starts with education. Dr. Paul has lead by example thus his children follow. Thanks for posting!

Rand Paul 2012?
The similarities between Rand and Ron are uncanny! His mannerisms, phrases, speech, accent, etc. are very much alike! Is a Rand Paul revolution in the works? Will he enter the political realm? I am certain that he, like Dr. Paul, would have a skeptical eye when entertaining the idea of holding political office but if we want to keep this alive Rand really should think of taking the place of his father in the next few years and become the figure-head of our message.
2020 is more like it, but...
...the message is what is what is compelling. It is clear that "the apple" has fallen and sprouted a new tree. In a way it has already began, but Rand Paul for pres. 20?? should start raising money now! Trevor should make his next "Money Bomb" the longest in history! I would give routinely.
That's my 2 cents, I mean dollars.
Let's do it!
What Ron Paul started his son has to carry on. Now we have time to start early and prepare a strategy to get him elected.
I don't trust Barr.
I didn't know that Tennessee had no income tax.
Good to know. I'll add it to the list of choices for where to live when I escape from California.

I believe
Washington or Oregon are state tax free too. (cannot remember which one)
Oregon has NO sales tax! If
Oregon has NO sales tax! If something costs $1.49 that's what they get. It is SOOO great to shop there..
Like Father Like Son
Very articulate and clear in expressing his views.

Socialism does work to a point...
As a Dutch Ron Paul supporter I couldn't resist to reply.
Socialism does work, for more then 50 years now every dutch citizen is insured for health care, can get money if he is out of a job or disabled and go to public school. It has worked to a point that it's normal to get money back from tax because you payed intrest, company's that get subsides for helpdesk program lessons and problem youth that get vacations to spot butterfly's...
At this point society has lost almost all of its ways to counter its ills, and every problem justifies goverment intervention. If you talk about this with people they tell you how needed it is for the poor. But the truth is that the middle class, upper class and almost every business know how to profit from it just as well. People think it is justified that goverments give grands for driving your kid to school 5 km down the road or subsidies a super jumbo. And eventho the my goverment is growing at a unprecedented rate it can probably do it for another 100 years if it slows down a bit. People just don't want to see that the goverment with its magic wand can only transfer wealth that is obtained by force. Every day its on the news how they raise a tax, lose a ton of money on mistakes or corruption, use the police like a atm or make a big scene about nothing.
Fact of the matter is that I got everything I need and untill now the system has worked eventho it has a lot of flaws. But just like the US its turning to a police state in disquish. I hope my goverment keeps extending itself at the rate it has done the last 10 years, because without pain people will defend socialism forever. Ron Paul does have some fans over here and a revolution in the US would certainly give them some fuel. The idea of Liberty is a strong one, but socialism is unfortunately a worthy rival.
I'm honestly up in the air
I'm honestly up in the air about the "right" form of government. Clearly, I lean towards less government (otherwise I wouldn't be such a RP supporter), but I guess I'm just not that sure. I think some of the socialist-leaning European countries could function into perpetuity under the system they have. My two main thoughts are this:
1) It just can't work for America the way it is structured now. Either cop to wanting to turn the country into a socialist state, or stop promoting the country as this bastion of freedom while running it like a half-assed socialist government. Do the socialism right, or don't do it at all. Stop lying about it either way though.
2) I'm convinced that the level of government influence will NEVER stay in the same place. I'm convinced (a bit depressingly), that this government will accrue more and more power in Washington until some massive shock turns it around--and it would have to be massive. Maybe it would then return to its original roots. But over decades and centuries, it would start to accrue again. There will never be a time where the "libertarian" viewpoint will be "locked in" to how the government works. It will always be a struggle to get it there and a struggle to keep it there. It may be impossible to keep it there--growth and reduction may just be a part of the cycle. The reason: Every person on this earth only has a 3-7 decades of living where they form an opinion on government's role. It's reset for ever generation. There will never be a consensus on the right way to rule over people.

You hit the nail right on
You hit the nail right on the head (it's a dutch expression, maybe english :) ), socialism is the easy way out. But like the US, liberty would be much much better.
The situation in the Netherlands is better then most other countries, but there are a lot of problems here that reinforces the argument that government is inefficient (like Dr. Rand Paul is talking about in the video). There was this study a few months ago that concluded that our education didn't improve but even worsened in the last 20 years. Burqa prohibition is a hot issue, another way of the government to take away our liberties. The healthcare is "free" (we're still paying 120 euro per person a month + up to 250 euro at the end of the year if you used healthcare), but if you want to make an appointment in a hospital you need to wait a month. The government will only subsidize the cheapest variant of a medicine, which will bankrupt 40% of the pharmacies. Two days ago a minister proposed that everybody needs to eat fish two times a week mandatory!
We have a lot of free things and no worries, because everything is paid by the people! And hell we are paying, 34% - 52% income tax and 20% sales tax. How about property tax if you own a house .55%, 25% of dividends, 1.2% capitaltax (20000 euro free), plus our mandatory pensionplan, mandatory healthcare. And of course the inflation tax of 3,9%. You need to remember we also have a national deficit of 220 billion euro That is how we payed for the last 50 years!!!!! And we are a monarchy so we pay our royal family 113 million euro a year, but we have a nice future queen :/ .
You say we can still live like this for a 100 years. I say we could live way better if we want to. If we just listen to Ron Paul, because is you have peace and liberty, you will get prosperity!!!
His voice is very similar to
His voice is very similar to his father's. He is very articulate as well. I hope more of RPs kids start political careers.

No you won't fool the children of the revolution, no no no - yeah!"

Great post!
I'm Impressed
That's the first real time I've heard Rand Paul talk about issues in a panel forum of that sort, and I think he has great presence, confidence, and sound knowledge of the issues which makes his correct assertions sound even more appealing.
Rand for vp
I think Dr. Paul's organic tomatoes have cultivated some really nice brain cells in his family!!
Love the way this is edited-only Rand is talking. It is excellent to keep driving home how we DO NOT need government (except for Constitutional reasons).
good interview
And the interviewer actually asked some intelligent questions as well.
What an asset!
Dr. Rand Paul is as compelling as his father. It was such a delight to listen to him participating in this debate. Dr. Ron must be very proud of his children and grandchildren, and rightfully so.

Thank you Rand Paul....this was great

I do believe that we will be
I do believe that we will be seeing more of the Paul family following in Ron Paul's footsteps. Who knows, maybe this is the groundwork we have been laying. I would really like to see Rand Paul on a ballot this November!
