When I was first honored with a call into service of my country, then on the eve of an arduous struggle for its liberties, the light in which I contemplated my duty required that I should renounce every pecuniary compensation. I omitted the word "executive" before "department," but I'll have to work harder to challenge you. I hope more that Washington's sentiments, thus expressed, become a challenge and inspiration to our future representatives.

And did you know, Lisa, that the word "pecuniary" comes from the Latin "pecunaea", meaning "cattle", as cows were widely used in the ancient world as currency? Damn, imagine the wallets!
Except for the smell, I'd rather have twenty cows than
