My neighbour is flying a flag upside down this week.
She told me that it's for her son who came back from Iraq without a leg and a ruptured lung. ( now useless )
The michigan police were there telling her that the neighbourhood didn't like it and told her to put it right side up.
So I went around and talked to people today and asked around the neighbourhood and at the local convenience stiore and they all say ( apart from one old lady ) that they think she's doing the right thing . I do also. I'd fly my flag upside down if I had a flag pole until this country becomes right again. maybe that would be the best way to express dissent to everyone in government if we all did this.

What a fantastic idea for the Freedom March in DC
For the Freedom March in DC. Upside down flags!
What a message that would send. If everyone did it. I think people would understand and on both sides of politics.
And human beings are swayed so much by symbols and images - they communicate much, much more and more powerfully than words do.
I'm just flying this flag

Somebody in one of the
eastern states got arrested for flying his flag upside down. I hope your neighbor will be safe.
On what charge? Distressing your neighbors with your
distress call?

Leftover lentils and ham on toast.
As long as I keep eating lentils and beans, akak won't allow me into the meditation room which is fine by me.
Going for a walk now. I gained two pounds this week -- freakin' winter time!

Bonnie Blue Flag
On Saturday, September 11, 1810, troops under the command of Major Isaac Johnson set out for the provincial capitol at Baton Rouge. At the head of the column rode a colour sergeant carrying a blue flag with a single, five-pointed white star. This flag had been made a few days before by Mrs. Melissa Johnson. Together with other republican forces under the command of Colonel Philemon Thomas, these men captured Baton Rouge without loss to themselves and on September 23, 1810, raised their Bonnie Blue Flag over the fort of Baton Rouge. Three days later, John Rhea, president of the West Florida convention, signed a Declaration of Independence, and the lone star flag became the emblem of a new republic.
now why does that date seem familiar .... hmmm

Any idea if your Sheriff is an honorable guy or not? If local police harass her hopefully the Sheriff can stand up for her. All depends on how militant your Sheriff is though or if they understand their constitutional oath.

The country is in a war and headed for another. Flying the flag upside down is what you do when the country is in peril. Or did they change that after 911 too? I suppose we will be in a perpetual "war on terror" So we will always have an upside down flag unless we get our government under control. We should carry them upside down at the march.
Hmmm
That would probably go over like a lead balloon with Americans and rightfully so. If one does not feel good about the flag...then don't fly it...and don't pledge it. There is no requirement to do so. But there is no purpose in being arrogantly and intentionally disrespectful and downright anti-American.
People are not going to support a movement that carries an upside down American flag. If Ron Paul ever turns his flag upside down...then I will no longer support his program. I am in full trust that he would not do so...and that is one of the many reasons he is respected. He knows how to GIVE respect which is why he receives it. It goes hand in hand.
Although I agree with the sentiment
of flying the flag upside down. I do agree that it would go over like a LEAD BALLOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or just fly the original
Or just fly the original flag, with 13 stars in a circle within the blue field.
My family had one like that, which we flew all during the bicentennial year of 1976. One of our neighbors had the gall to come over and tell us that we were being disrepectful because that was not the "official" flag. My dad just laughed at him.
That's why your dad is my hero.

COOL THANKS!
COOL THANKS!
I'd like to fly an
I'd like to fly an upside-down flag as well, only mine would have a big brown stripe running down the middle, where Dubya wiped his ass with it, as he does every day with the Constitution.
All this flag-worship, standing for the national anthem, etc. etc. frankly makes me sick. What's next, official torchlit Nuremberg-like rallies honoring The State? Or the "Homeland", I should say?
We should be worrying a LOT more about the loss of liberty in this country, and a lot less about nationalistic symbols and quasi-fascist public loyalty oaths to the State.
Are you sure you're not part Aussie?
You sure talk like one.

Then I have that much
Then I have that much greater respect for Australians --- anyone who laughs at their militaristic national anthem and bleating sheeplike flag-worship is OK in my book!
Most of them don't even know the words to the
national anthem and they rarely fly a flag. They are loyal to the "idea" of being Australian (mateship and a "fair go") and are very protective of each other.
American nationalism makes them cringe. Once you get away from it for a while, it's disturbing.

It's been disturbing to me
It's been disturbing to me for years. Only RP has made me even look at the flag again. After 9/11 I was so disgusted with all the jingoism and the flag was the top symbol. I would cringe every time I saw it. Now I feel a lot more neutral.
The neo-cons now use it against Americans.

I've never gotten away from
I've never gotten away from it for long, and I STILL find it disturbing! As well as the reactions from the sheep when anyone dares not join in their state worship and socially-enforced display of state loyalty.
The ones with gold fringe
creep me out big time. I have researched it and still have'nt gotten a definite answer on what the deal is with that. I do'nt see that as the American flag. It's supposed to be red. white, and blue. Who decided they could just change it? If they can add gold fringe we can fly it upside down!
Check out this website:
Check out this website: http://www.apfn.org/apfn/.... It basically means the courtroom, etc. is under martial law.
Under martial law, you are presumed guilty until proven innocent.
Then do it
It's a free country. Flag poles don't cost that much...neither do flags.
Everyone who thinks that it is a "good" idea should go out tomorrow and hang a flag upside down...right next to their Ron Paul signs. Make a grand statement. Heck, put'em everywhere. On your cars...on your websites..on your business cards..
Do you think it would draw lots of new supporters to the C4L????

Awesome. The flag is suppose
Awesome.
The flag is suppose to be flown upside down when the country is in a time of distress.
She should have yelled at the police for flying theirs right side up.
I'm sure Dr. Paul would not approve.
For what it's worth.
Short of violence, he said to do what was necessary.

That's not necessary.
And it's counter productive and absurd.
This is what George Washington said the design of the flag represented: "We take the stars from Heaven, the red from our mother country, separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity representing Liberty."
If you desecrate the flag, you spit on the libertarian principles upon which this nation was founded. It doesn't represent the government. It represents liberty.
"that's not necessary, And
"that's not necessary, And it's counter productive and absurd."
so is the war that took her sons leg and lung.......take a deep breath now....and take a long walk now.....
and now tell that lady what she should and should not do....
"There is but one special interest that we should be working for, and that would solve just about all of our problems, and that is our liberty."Ron Paul
I'd tell her the same thing
if she were here. It doesn't communicate an effective message. It's counter productive. She might as well put a banner outside her home that says "I hate liberty," because that's what people interpret it as.
I'm not saying she shouldnt have the RIGHT to do it.
well let me tell you
there are plenty of us that would not see it that way. For me it says "I love Liberty and hate to see it diminished by a senseless war that is causing our country to fail"
