The People Running the Show Have No Idea What's Going On

I think this was a case of bad news along with a bit of stage fright. Maybe the bad news part made him even more nervous being up there at the podium.

I actually wanted to prove that wrong by finding a video of Phillip Swagel speaking eloquently, but I could not. The only video I found was some sort of Congressional hearing: http://www.youtube.com/wa... Swagel also looked a bit nervous/uncomfortable there as well.

Egads... if only they reported ALL government news conferences in this fashion (i.e. with a KNOWLEDGEABLE, and SKEPTICAL narrative voice).

The only question is: How the heck did this get on the Washington Post site?

I mean they KNOW they are not allowed to actually report stuff in this fashion... right?

That journalist deserves A HUGE PRIZE (what is the big journalism award?)!
Notice how the journalist seized the opportunity to create something incredible by stepping back and seeing the situation for what it really was. We can all learn from this when we make videos and communicate with any form of media.

A really important guy to interview and all you have is a handful of journalists. Where are the rest of them? I am sure they are not in the unemployment line.

as though he just recieved a death threat from Cheney or Oli North. Well this guy obviously had some dismal news regarding the economy, but if you wanna hear some good news about the economy and how good its doing, watch Fox news. If you wanna hear that things are great and the economy has never been better, just listen to Rush Limbaugh (the 600million man). If you wanna hear a a straight up joke, just listen to Mccain's promises of balancing the budget in 4 yrs.

haha, I guess this vindicates our suspicions that all is not well. Or, in the very least, it's simply more evidence of incompetence in government.

Maybe they'll include a 60 day Valium supply with the next stimulus check.

other than convince people it's necessary. they have people believing that as bad a job as they do things would be a thousand times worse without them. i say we get rid of them for a trial period of five years. if things are a thousand times worse we'll gladly welcome them back.

I did not get the sense that the g-man was clueless. I got the sense that he was very careful in his choice of words. He knew what he could and could not say, but he let a couple things slip anyway. I also got the sense that he has a conscience and felt pretty bad about his role in bamboozling the American people. Psychopaths like Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are very smooth liars. This guy was not.

They're just finding it harder and harder to spin all the bad news. So naturally, their sacrificial lamb comes off looking like an idiot, when he can't (or more likely - WON'T) give coherent answers to germane questions...
